That's definitely fishy, I would send the check back as soon as it comes and sell the books back to the school. I don't know how much information you gave him but, you shouldn't have given him any personal info. Nothing you can do about that now. You could have been letting yourself in for a world of hurt. As far as meeting a stranger somewhere to drop some books, that would be crazy, you don't know these people from Adam.

Holy crap, that money sounds hot. D:> And not in the Paris Hilton sense of the word. I mean the druggie illegal sex industry full of STDs hot.

If his friend really needs this money, his "friend" should get sent the money instead and you don't need to play go between. Does his "friend" not have a mailing address?

Send it all back. This is beyoooond fishy.

EDIT: And yes, reporting him on Craigslist sounds fair. This probably the best place to start looking for report help.

That's sounds extremely dodgey, as soon as you get that I'd send all of it straight back.

I hope that his English so mixed up because he's struggling to learn it as his second language. Tell him again in a more firm tone that you are not going through with the deal, and find out a way to report all those messages that he's sent you.

Try Amazon or EBay. That's how I'm going to sell my books.

Whoa Whoa WHOA. at the New Development.
Let someone at Craigslist know immediately about this guy. This is BEYOND fishy at this point.
I just checked the Craigslist "Avoid Scams" page and this is what is says:
Quote:
Who should I notify about fraud or scam attempts?
-FTC toll free hotline: 877-FTC-HELP (877-382-4357)
-FTC online complaint form (http://www.ftc.gov)
-Canadian PhoneBusters hotline: 888-495-8501
-Internet Fraud Complaint Center (http://www.ic3.gov)
-Non-emergency number for your local police department.

If you suspect that an item posted for sale on craigslist may be part of a scam, please email the details to "[email protected]". Be sure to include the URL (or eight-digit post ID number) in your message.

I think you should report him to be honest. I also think that you should block this guy from sending you any more emails, don't reply to him and DON'T give him your info, if you already did, I would notify the police. (Again, that's just what I would do)

Thanks guys. I was looking at the scamming page linked by Omi and it says as a big hint not to deal with people who want you to Wire through Western Union, which is exactly what this guy was asking me to do. I'm going to report him right away.

They even had examples of scam e-mails and it's all written in the same horrible English.
