What would your dream home look like?
I've lived in many places throughout my life, and in many different houses.
I wouldn't say that I've yet found my dream home. That got me to wondering what a "dream" home would look like. Would it be large? Would it be in a city or in the country? What kind of kitchen would it have? Do I need lots of land? What would be YOUR dream home? |
Going back to the RVing question from before, I again return to the shores of Lake Superior. A cabin somewhere, woods nearby to camp in. No pool needed, the lake's waters deep blue.
|
I agree with Heiyuu, I love log homes. But mine would be a bit to the west ...
Has everyone seen that hobbit house? THAT'S what I want. I remember a long time ago (as in, when I had money, ha-ha) I had saved the plans for a home inspired by the contours of a conch shell. There were really neat spirals inside. I really dislike boxy homes, and the bigger the box the more I dislike it. |
My dream home would be in a country like landscape. With lot of trees and flowers. A vast amount of land filled with plants and wood. My house would be cottage like and very small. It would have picket fences and vines creeping up one side of the house. The color would be a soft pastel yellow with hints of mohagony wood here and there. Big cobblestone steps would lead the way to my door and the scent of roses, lilies, and warm sugar cookies would fill your nose as you step up to the entrance. The meow of a cat is heard at the sound of the melodious doorbell. this would be my dream home. Wow somehow I sound like a granny =] I like warm and cozy homes >< |
My dream house (although I'm never going to have my own house) would be in the country. It would be a medium sized house with two stories and a basement so there would be plenty of room for children. I would have a large vegetable garden in the back and a nice tree row surrounding the acre or so that the house would sit on.
Oh yes, and my kitchen would be the envy of all kitchens! I would have plenty of counter space and room for all my kitchen appliances. :XD |

I'd love a large house, not like the Biltmore or anything, but I'd like 5 bedrooms, A large living room, a family room, a recreation den, a large kitchen, dining room, foyer, powder and utility room, 4 other bathrooms, one of them master, and a nice office, yard with a pool, and of course conservatory and patio. My first choice is something that's like a whitewash stucco and terracotta roof, something common in southern california, or... It'd me a somewhat modern home, or white, with black shutters, and red door, that look, but quaint...ish XD. It'd be in maybe a development, or near one, in the suburbs of southern cali. i'd love a very nice kitchen, with marble counter tops, and island, with stainless steel appliances, and the oven built into the wall =3 i'd also like a hardwood large plank what is it, pella floor? I'd like the wood to be a dark color, dark brown, whatever that'd be. i need at least 2 acres? i want enough space for a swingset, a nice tiled pool with jacuzzi, and if i'm lucky, by the water. nice landscaping would be cool too. if i had to estimate, that'd be about 2-3 mil? i need a rich hubby... :gonk: |
Current dream home would be in a beautiful city. A large and luxurious condo with a beautiful view (city or ocean, no matter). It would be very modern and sleek. The ones where you know it will be freezing without a heater in the winter. I suck at describing, so here's a picture of something I would look like: http://fc29.deviantart.com/fs23/i/20...by_3DSerge.jpg :3

I don't really care about where, really, but more of what it looks like. I suppose I'd like something I made myself. XD
It probably would be big and have a lot of rooms in it. The kitchen, I dunno. Nice sized, pretty. Enough room to walk around in it. |
Hmmm I'd think a medium sized house with maybe three stories
As far as location somewhere not to far from the city but not in the city as to avoid all the hustle and bustle, noise and pollution. I'd love to have trees nearby maybe a small forest or so. As far as a kitchen, a modest sized one would suit me fine since Im not so inclined in cooking unless the mood strikes me but that might change once I get older. |
It would be fairly small, but it would have room for a studio for me, and a fairly large yard. The house itself would be in the Gothic Revival style, made of gray stone, with pointed windows and fieldstone and wood floors. Probably, ivy would be growing over at least part of the outside. The yard would be largely unkempt, but would have a wrought iron fence around it, for we would have a dog. I would want to tie animal bones to the branches of the trees, especially near the street. Inside, the walls would be painted in rich, dark colours. Once, long ago, I had my bedroom painted deep red, and I loved it. I would like to have that again. I would like to have my studio papered in narrow black and gray stripes.
But just thinking about this is making me long for it. I am working class, so likely I will only ever have an apartment, where I cannot even paint the walls. |
Oh my goodness! So many varied replies, yet each one is wonderful. Each one I read made me think "Yes, that would be a beautiful home"
Heiyuu: Living on a lake would be so much fun. I've been up north during the summer though - isn't the mosquito the state bird of Minnesota? Guivere: A house based on a conch shell is one of the most original ideas I have heard in a long time! It certainly would never be boring. There would have to be lots of skylights though to let in the outside lights. Which room would be at the very center? Lovebug: I used to want a large house, but now at my age, a little cottage is sounding very nice. I would like lots of flowers also, but I'm afraid that I have quite a black thumb! I would have to have my sister living with me to be the plant expert. Rikali: Why would you think you will never have your own house, dear? A country house is a nice dream to have - you should try to follow your dreams! Coquette: I would adore stainless steel appliances in my kitchen. Since I cannot afford a new house right now, I would dearly love to redo my kitchen, with granite countertops - the whole works! (Now if I could only figure out how to make it larger, I'd be very happy!) Sadi: I was so happy with all the country homes that everybody was writing about, and then I read your post. A condo on the beach, listening to the waves crash on the shore - oh my, how lovely that would be! Yume: My husband and I once built our own home. We had framers put up the frame, but we ourselves did all the electrical work, plumbing, floors, etc. I don't think I would ever do it again (it is definitely work for a young person), but when we were done we were very proud of it! Turtle: Three stories? You must be in very good shape. I have a two story house, and would like to go to a single story. Stairs aren't too good for these creaky legs. Cayora: What a lovely description dear. A studio would be a wonderful idea. I don't understand though about the animal bones in the trees? |
And the Tully Monster's the state fossil of Illinois. But the mosquitoes are all part of the fun. I'm young, and love camping, and no skitters are gonna chase me away from my dreamhome!

So I'd most likely end up in the city. Quote:

I want them to be able to have a little garden and a treehouse, or a club house if we lack the necessary trees... I really want this for them so they don't live inside like 80% of todays youth does... I'm 16 and I was outside for most of my childhood and ever since computers got really popular and common I've been a homebody... I hate it. I rarely ever go outside, get some air and excersize. I have no interest for the outdoors anymore because they're is nothing to play with or anything interesting to do, especially if you're outside alone. |
WTF: It's true that if you have children you need a larger place. I don't have children, but my husband had two from a previous marriage. So, we have always tried to have a large enough place so that they would each have their own bedroom when they came to visit us.
Now they're grown up, and we should try to move to a smaller place. That's why I'm thinking my current dream home should be smaller and more cozy. But lots of land would be very nice. |
I either want to live on a farm with lots of land and cows,
OR a huge house with a winding staircase, a library, a butterfly garden and stone steps. This one would have a big backyard. Either would be located in Ohio, or elsewhere in the Midwest and I'd have two cats. I would either be in the country or the suburbs, on the edge of civilization. My kitchen would be large enough for several people, at least 3, to be in there comfortably. It would have a stove that works for large meals. It would be stocked with many spices, and lots of cereal. And it would be very sunny. |
fairywaif: Large kitchens are very nice. Most times when we have family over, everybody congregates in the kitchen, so having a nice large sunny one would be a good goal. Kitchens are homey and comfortable - people would rather sit in there and chat than go into the living room.
|
I would want to live in a tiny apartment. I don't know why, but smaller spaces make me feel more organized. And it definetely needs to be in the city. As for the kitchen, I want a small one where I can cook. But the only thing I really need is a large library close by. =D
|
It would probably be a large, spacious 2-story house in Michigan (where I currently live).
I would love for it to have an underground pool, a screened-in patio, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen and dining room combined, a small living room, and a computer room. Oh, and my bedroom walls would probably be pink. |

I'd like to live in a cottage type house. With 3 Bedrooms maybe 4. Nice modern kitchen. And living room. And a garden whats not too big but not too small. That's all really  |
Jenn, there is something nice about the thought of living in the city. It would be very handy to be able to walk places and not have to drive. I don't care for driving very much.
Crayons, a pool is very nice to have. We had one once in North Carolina. My husband says that while it was nice at that time in our life, it was very time-consuming. You must constantly clean it and keep the leaves off of it and test the water. Cayora, thank you for the explanation, dear. It sounds very strange, but it must make their place very unique! Plastic, I would love a garden. But I believe I've mentioned that I have a black thumb. Maybe I could handle a little herb garden. |
Mine would look like a medieval castle
|
I want a house that has a modern design, you know those weirdly shaped one?
I would LOVE to have a home like that. Rich colours on the inside and the entrance would have a high ceiling. the rooms would be weirdly shaped too, no rectangles or squares for me. |
Oh no Im not in good shape but hey three stories would help fix that problem right?
But yeah you dont see a lot of houses that pass two stories so a third story maybe a loft or attic area would be nice. Its nice to think about. I still have a long ways to go though till I even think of owning a home of my own. |
Jesweet, one person on here talked of having a house that was spiral shaped, like a conch shell. Would that be modern enough for you?
