Nationality discrimination

What do you guys feel about this?
May I elaborate?
well I have noticed since a long long time how cool it is to be English Japanese or French and how horrid is (for some people of course not me!!) to be Mexican, African, Latin american, Pakistan, Philipino. Chinese...etc...

My question is why are human beings like this....? I know it is a difficult one but a very interesting one .

A friend of mine says he doesnt make differences in theory but he thinks that some countries make others hate them by their actions, for example he says he admires Mexicans because of their mayan culture and he knows the US stole land (all the south actually) but he has no sympathy towards them because they have a "dirty " image and they try to come to the US illegally and all....(also I think media has a lot to do on this since there are even games where the objective is to kill mexicans...GOD!!!)
SO ...are we willing to understand the differences and different reasons why a country does what they do and we think its bad?
For example...do we ever go back to see how things really were and why one country seems to be better than another? I say that for every rich educated country there are three or four who has been exploited for that country to be good...think of it

I would like you to answer:

what nationality are you?
What nationality would you like to be?
Is there a nation you admire?
Is there a nation you have problems with?

If the primary function of this topic is a Q&A session, it doesn't belong in the Debates forum.

If it's a debate about racism, then we have at least two very closely related topics running already in this forum.

Either way, I'm gonna toss this over to GD.

I've never cared much about what nationality people are. The only problem I've had is the language and cultural barrier but if both people are willing to laugh and accept mistakes then that's not really an issue either.

Anyway... I'm Australian. :P I don't want to be anything else, unless my soul mate is somewhere else, and even then I'd probably want them to come here. I admire NZ for being our bros, our neighbours, and I admire East Timor as well as Tibet. I also admire the Kurds.

Yes. Israel. Simply because, at the moment, it appears heartless and determined on smashing as many people as possible JUST to get rid of a few of them. The Israeli people seem that way too, but I know that I can't say they ARE like that till I've seen more than the few that stand out.

I am American, but my heritage makes me 1/2 Norwegian, 1/4 English, and 1/4 German.

I would like to be...I dont know. I'm fine the way I am. I'm quite proud of my heritage.

I admire Native Americans, Egyptians, Latinos (Because of teh Mayans, Incans, Aztecs, and Omecs), Italians, the French, Germans, Asians, Pacific Islander, and pretty much any other nationality.

I don't hate, but I'm not overly fond of Canadians. So far, I have not met a Canadian that I liked.

what nationality are you?:
American mostly with a German background. I do have the nazi thing in my ethnic background. Sometimes I wonder if people might not like me because I'm using a German surname. This has only occured to me recently and while I'm no nazi and nether was my ancestry knock on wood, I suppose some that may have family hurt by nazism may not know this.

What nationality would you like to be?:
I don't know, I wish I could travel more so I could find out.

Is there a nation you admire?:
Once again, I wish I could travel more to find this out. Probably most any nation that promotes birth control for starters.
For now I mostly admire certain aspects of certain nations.
Like how Japan doesn't promote military and instead puts their resources into other activities.
I wish the US did this.
I like European countries for being less wasteful and environmentally friendly as a developed country.

Is there a nation you have problems with?:
Mostly Islamic countries due to the increased hatred and a religion based on being an aggressive conquering religion . I read about people in Islamic countries being atttacked for celebrating Christmas. To be fair, we in Christian countries should attack them when they celebrate their Islamic holidays...But we don't because we ( Christian oriented countries) are more tolerarant. IF I visit an Islamic country, I'm forced to dress Islamic sytle. I am told I cannot visit there and dress "normal" because I might be attacked. If an Islamic visits here, they can dress Islamic style if they wish and are not forced to dress like the people here.

Any countries where they cannot close their legs and are promisculious without birth control.
Since overpopulation is the #1 world problem, contributing to it upsets me. I have no problems with people who want be promisculious, if they use birth control. IF you breed too much, you are a problem. Unless you want to fall into the natural order. Other animals breed frequently because their offspring die of lack of medical care, starvation and predators. Somepeople want it both ways, they want civilized care for their multi-offfspring and want to ignore the laws of nature. It upsets the world balance. These breeders are directly responsible for people who die of starvation and other species dying out as their land is taken by people.
I try not to extend this towards indviduals who might come from these nations and not breed excessively themselves.

Both my parents are Cuban but I was born in America. So I believe by blood I'm Cuban but by area I'm Cuban American. It's slightly confusing for me. At first when I was younger I thought I was Puerto Rican because both my parents spend a good majority of their young years. But they corrected me saying that I was Cuban.

Quote:

Um...I really don't know. I'm happy with my nationality. I just hate the fact that I'm considered a 'rafter' because my parents literally came on a raft to Puerto Rico to escape Fidel Castro's reign and because I'm Cuban. I would like to see one of those other Latin Americans and Americans try getting on a raft, hiding diamonds inside their bodies, and having nothing but the clothes on their back and precious family heirlooms taken away.

A nation I admire I would have to say would be Sweden. A good friend of mine lives in Sweden. And they seem to care more about their people than America does. I feel like in America its 'Cash, cash, cash' I always feel like America sees its people as dollar bills. In America your basically on your own. You really don't have help from the government. And when they do send out help it doesn't reach the people it should reach. Sweden seems to help their people in the ways of finding a job and financial reasons. Then people complain when they want that type of government for America. The problem with America is we're just too big to have that type of government.

Is there a nation you have problems with?
Hmm. Well I wouldn't know I don't really have a problem with most nations. Unless they are denying rights to people. Or overly religious countries who want everyone else to tolerate their religion but refuse to tolerate others.

I'm pretty much the definition of "mutt". I'm a mixture of 13 different ethnicities (that we know of thus far).

Irish, Scottish, English, Welsh, Polish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Apache, Mayan, Mexican, Cherokee.

What nationality would you like to be?
I like where I am. If anything, I'd like to be a few more, so I could be a part of everything.

Honestly... yes and no. It's more like a respect for culture in general. I can't admire one over another because each culture has it's interesting points and it's failing, and to me, to say anything otherwise is just... incorrect.

Not really. I make jokes, but lighthearted ones... especially regarding my own mixed heritage.

I'm pretty sure that I am 100% swedish. My ancestors were all farmers in the deep forests of sweden=minimal mix-up with other ethnic groups. A bit ew, yeah.

I'm alright with swedish? As far as I know, there is nothing absolutely atrocious in the nature or history of the Swedes. It's a good nationality to be when you're travelling too, people in general (if they even know where it is) have positive views of us as a group...

Admire, huh. No. Honestly, there's people of all kinds. I like the stereotypical look of jews? I dunno, I just find them appealing.

And again, no, can't say I do. I've traveled a lot and gotten into a lot of sticky situations with different cultures (China being the most extreme ) but the nationality... No.
