This man is not a Christian
So, my friend directed me to this site http://www.godhatesgoths.com/main.html. I glanced over it and thought, "okay, yeah, some of their music could be considered satanic, most goths I know do have suicidal tendencies, and parents always have the right to be worried".
Then I actually read some of the stuff on there... I didn't know if I wanted to cry or laugh. The organization who wrote that website should not be considered Christians. If you want my opinion, who ever wrote that website was helped by the devil himself. But I try to look for the positive things in life, so let's talk about their "warning signs" of being goth. Some can be very hilarious. (I've edited out the vulgar ones and bolded the ones that I think are particularly funny. Quote:

Um, I'm pretty sure that site was a joke site. Seriously..
I know it's pretty old, too. I saw somebody talk about it on Myspace a while ago and realized the post was from a years ago. So, yeah. ^^; |
Not Christian, just hilarious.
|
Hooray for satire! :D It was meant as a commentary against the Westboro Baptist Church, I think - their site (which I am not going to link here, due to vile amounts of hatrid and silliness) has had a series of lists like this which give laundry lists of anything they can think of, and claims (or has claimed) that anyone who does any of those things is gay.
Fun satire, jerky original site. :3 |
Lol, my library blocks that site under "racism and hate". Is everyone sure it's a joke site or just inadvertantly hilarious?
Edit -- Yay for post at same time as Byaggha. So the library filter sucks, what else is new? |
I lol'd.
Wasn't there another site called "godhatesgays?" Oh, silly Christians. |
@Guivre: Given the list of other websites they offer ('God Hates Retards' and 'God Hates Women' among them) and the fact their opening site for Goths starts with the phrase "Dear Loser", I'm going with yes, satire. XD
|
Wow, 30 matches for me... I must be a goth at heart [/sarcasm] lol~
I like Rammsteain too, btw :) |
x_x I hope it's a joke.
It's pretty cruel satire, though. |
Despite the saying, the internet is not serious business.
Satire. A jerk-ass variety of satire, but still... |
@Byaggha -- gotcha. ;)
|
@ Captain Howdy: It isn't as jerk-ass as what it satirizes, but it is pretty bad none the less. Suppose that says quite a bit about the parish it mocks.
@ Guivre:  |
Oh man. that website just makes me laugh. XD I can't remember the number, but a good bit of that applied to me. Ahh...gotta love satire. lol

This is the dumbest crap I've heard all day. D: |
I read these out loud to my husband
had me laughing so hard i CRIED |
lol, that is the funniest list ever! And I don't doubt that it's satire now that others have said things.
I have to admit before I saw someone say that it is satire, I was slightly offended by the premise. I have a friend who is a Goth but also a Christian, and I hate the way some people treat him for being Goth. I actually got to know him because we were going to the same Christian private college, and he's really an awesome guy. One day he had what he calls a "prep day" just to freak people out, and he dressed all preppy... you know, light pink polo, khaki pants, sweater tied around his neck... and we were totally shocked when some people came up to him and said, "Oh, we're so glad you got saved! We've been praying for you!" We were all like, WTF?? He's a good Christian, why should it matter how he dresses? He's actually able to reach out to Goths because of it, which is awesome. oh, and lol... no movies by Peter Jackson... didn't he direct the Lord of the Rings? Oh..oh... and weren't those movies based off of books by a Christian author? That made me laugh so hard to see that on the list. |
@Morwyn: They're probably listing Peter Jackson for the LOTR stuff, linking it (as I have seen some people do) to Dungeons and Dragons, and from there to Satanic ritual. How they link D&D to Satanic ritual is beyond me though - I've played that game for years and I've never met a DM like the lady in that silly old Chick tract. XD
Where's my crazy evil DM who recruits for a cult? |
But LOTR was written by JRR Tolkien, a Christian author, is my point... and LOTR actually has a lot of Christian symbolism in it (trust me, I wrote a research paper on it in high school) So it's just silly that they'd list that. He was even good friends with C.S. Lewis (yeah, the Narnia author), who wrote all kinds of Christian theology type books as well (Mere Christianity, The Great Divorce...)
I mean, I can sort of see the connection, but not really... I think it's absolutely ridiculous to think that LOTR could be harmful to any "good little Christian children" that people who would take this kind of thing seriously are trying to "protect" My dad is a pastor, actually, and he actually encouraged me to read the books! |
I just died laughing just a little. XD
Look at the de-gothing section. XDDD It's all medeival torture weapons! |
Oh, I know he was a Christian, I'm just sayin' that's probably the party line on why they satirized it as being evil - the whole elves and demons and things from beyond with magic deal. The same reason D&D always gets lumped in with evil, really. :3
Well, that and the man WAS a Christian. It's funnier making that claim when you know he was. XD |
*snickers* I swear, I must be going to hell for sure based on this list. but yeah, I found that particularly amusing XD Oh, and my hubby got a kick out of the Harry Potter line too XD He loves those books...
|
I seen that a few years ago, I thought it was a joke.
Haha? |
17 of those apply to me. I'm so goff.
And yeah, it's satire. |
I lol'd.
Whenever I see these sites, I never quite know if that person is being serious, or is writing a satire. Fred Phelps (wiki him if you don't know who he is) claims that God hates, among other things, Sweden! Which, I mean, is totally logical. Gotta watch out for those Swedes. You never know when they'll turn around and start a nuclear world war with their large stockpile of incredibly dangerous weapons. -.- |
Interesting, only one thing I really have to comment about with this. The Ankh is an Egyptian symbol which means life.
I must say it was it was mildly amusing to read. Got a chuckle out of me. |
