Whenever I read, which is daily, I have to fiddle with the pages whilst I read. It would like an unnerving thing to some people or people who might notice me doing it.
I do it subconsciously until someone points it out. People have asked me "Why do you do that? It looks as if you're ruining the pages."
And I'll sit there in a stupor not realizing what I'm doing until they tell me. :/
The majority of my books have really wrinkled pages, and it's kinda ugly looking.
Does anyone else have a similar habit?
What causes this?
I r confoosed D:

I do the exact same thing! I always wondered if anyone else did it too. I remember having done it since i was very young, only back then, it was more violent. Espcially with magazines. I still have some really old ones, that i murdered. With books, now, i tend to bend, stroke, or pass the pages between my fingers.
I have to do it, otherwise, things don't sink in as well, yet i've no idea how i started it. None of my friends pass comment on it, perhaps because i don't usually read infront of them, but i know it's of great annoyance to my parents.

I tend to avoid cracks when I'm crossing sidewalks even before I knew the superstition, "step on a crack, break your mother's back" as well as count my steps when I'm ascending or descending the stairs... o.O
And to Maya: It's probably OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder)... XD

I think I have OCD then! hahaha.
I don't really. But I bet I will sooner or later!
I have this thing where if I play the keyboard, my hands..they irritate me. I have to press a bunch of keys on the left side as well as the right side, but something in my gut starts to itch and tells me I need a third hand to play the middle. D:
But ofcourse, I ignore it. I suppose if you're able to ignore it, then you don't really have OCD, right?
It doesnt affect my playing either, until I get so stuck in my train of thought (about three hands! >.<) that I forget what note I was up to.
And I also do what you do, Maya! I tend to slightly crinkle the pages but I don't scrunch them alot. Just... -crinklecrinkle-. xD
Or I'll keep lifting the page even when I'm still reading it.

Almost everyone have some kind of OCD then. I used to jump up from the ground if I ever heard a train coming, cause my feet weren't supposed to touch the ground then XD
Maya, why don't you try to just put the book down while reading it? Then you'll just need to touch the pages when you have to turn one (:

lol, I do the samething sometimes, and the thing is you don't even realize your doing, until someone is like "can you stop!!!"
but i the worst thing i do, without noticing is...during a test when everyone is quiet and writing, I tap my pencile on the desk hard, all you hear is tap, tap, tap when everyone is trying to concentrate. i get glared at, until someone tell me to stop. I don't even notice i'm doing it, haha it helps me concentrate. lol

Some people bite their nails. NOT ME.
I pick at my fingers, up there above the nail, and then gnaw on it. Constantly.
My thumbs are a mess.

I've tried. It feels like my brain isn't able to process reading unless the book is in my hands.
I've triedtriedtried but its like mentally impossible.

My grandma says if I don't stop it I won't be able to buy anymore books. ; ;
I tried to get her to understand that I've tried to stop this for so long but next thing I know I'll do doing it and not realizing it.
I sometimes bend the spine of the book too, which ticks me off, because I realizing that its very damaging to the book.

My friend has that EXACT same problem. Her thumbs are always bleeding or red, sometimes raw looking from chewing on them.

I bite my nails and the skin around them, without even realizing it until it hurts.
It's not that unusual, I suppose, but once I get some acrylics on I stop biting altogether. I suppose it's because it tastes bad and it's not easy to chew, so my subconscious just blocks the desire.

I do that all the time, except I don't damage the pages. Or I try not to, anyway. I have trouble sitting completely still... I like to fiddle and fidget with things while I'm reading.
I also bite my nails/the skin around them. Count me into the group of people with effed up thumbs. It's especially bad when I'm trying not to ruin my nailpolish. >_>;; I think I have an oral fixation.
Actually, I always tend to fiddle with whatever is near when I'm doing something. Silly putty is my best friend.

I peel the skin off of my lips all the time, it has been a habit for years. They bleed almost daily, too. I really wish I could quit it because I always look like someone cut my lips up. It's rather unattractive. :/
But I know what you mean about messing with pages of books/magazines/anything. I try not to do it to books, though. They're a bit more valuable than magazines.

I pick and tear at things.
This includes:
Acne, Finger/toenails, ticket stubs, important worksheets/documents, anything Styrofoam (especially cups), anything with metallic wrapping (candies, stuff like that).
It's really annoying.
I lso rock back and forth like a crazy person when sitting down, reading, drawing, or just listening. Most people just assume I have some sort of disorder.

No, I don't have that habit... I have something similar though.
When I'm painting or like thinking about painting I start to fiddle with the bristles on my paint brush and than I'll look down to see that I've either ruined my paint brush or got paint on my hand becuz of my nervous fidgeting...And I never sit still. I don't have ADD though...I just have an overactive thyroid so I'm always on the gooooo~
@Aero: Owww, that sounds like a painful habit. D:

When my older brother was younger, his friend got mad at his mom, and so he went outside and started jumping on the cracks shouting that superstition.
I'm not sure what I do with my books. It never really occured to me that I might be doing something other than just reading. Looking at my book right now, nothing seems to be weird about it (except that the glue holding the pages together kind of broke, so the book is almost ripped in half and only held together by the binding).
I know that I have a weird habit of always chewing on the inside of my lips, and flicking my pencil whenever I'm just sitting aorund.

I do that, too. I also pull out my eyebrows/eyelashes when I'm bored.
With books, I just always have the next page ready to turn.
When extremely bored, I sometimes type words out in the air/in my head. I don't know why.
I don't think anyone else notices when I do the last two.

I've never seen anyone do that before, but you probably should avoid that when you borrow a book from someone xD.
First To Never Know - I pull out my eyelashes and eyebrow hairs all the time at school.. people look at me wierd lol
I just pull hard enough that the ones which are going to fall out soon anyways come out.

Yeah, that's what I do. It's not like you're ripping them out from the root, so there's no pain involved.
I think I mostly did it while on the bus when I was in school, so the only person who really noticed was my sister.

Mmhmm.. I think it stemmed from my old and terrible nervous habit of smoothing out my eyebrows constantly. I did it daily in grade seven because I was always afraid that my slightly curled eyebrow hairs would be out of place and I would look funny without knowing it. I don't do that anymore, though. I just pull at them n-n

I wear my sunglasses at night~
|
I know thats a song, but to be honest, I really do wear my sunglasses at night...
I have night vision so to alter my vision I wear them. I know that sounds weird but its become a little bit of a habit now... This cop the other day stopped me just to point at my glasses and be like "wtf?" He gave me a breathalizer test but I was totally sober. Hahaha xD Another habit I have is when I paint I tend to hold two paintbrushes so I can paint with both hands cuz painting with one makes me strangely impatient. When music starts to play I start to dance for no particular reason. When the suns out I tend to walk different than when its dark out. When it rains I have to go outside and stand in the rain for ten minutes just for the hell of it. When someone knocks on my door I kick the door open...nearly killing the person. When I see a large tree I climb it... just to hang upside-down and throw branches at people walking below. When there's a sunset I climb on to the roof... When there's a full moon I stay up all night...Like last night, I didn't sleep a wink! I stayed up all night painting in the backyard with both my hands and listening to techno.
This is just many of my weird, habitual habits...
No, I don't think I have OCD... All of these things I do without thinking.
Do you have any weird habits?
Do you think it sounds like I have OCD?
Wearing your sunglasses at night? lol.

1. How well is your night vision? I've always wanted it. I run around at night and that would be super awesome to have.
2.I rather like your habit's can I barrow them?
3. I'm not sure if I have any habit's and if I do I can't think of them.
4. We have a Gay Straight Alliance at our school, my sister and Spanish teacher run it.
