I've got a huge case of ADHD. I can't sit still or pay attention for anything. So what my doctor did was prescribe Aderoll(Adderol? Whatever...) for it. Normally I take it with minimal side-effects(increased heart rate, slight shaking, lethargy, dry mouth, and periods of irritability, thought not always at the same time) but today my dosage was upped and even right now it hasn't worn off.
Right now I think I'm a little high. The world isn't moving, I'm going in slow motion, and time's going by really slow or really fast I don't know which, and I really, really want to scream or cry or something.
This happens every time my dosage is upped, and usually the second time I take it I'm fine. But it feels like I'm kinda on air right now, like I'm light as a feather and I kinda want to run somewhere and it's totally uncool.
Plus it's given me gas. D:
I didn't take more than the prescribed amount and my doctor said it's normal for you to feel kinda weird until it gets in your system because ADHD medication overstimulates your brain.
Does anyone else have strange side-effects from their meds or any stories of weird stuff that happened?

I have friends who sell that. Personally I'm not into pills, but what's happening (I'm pretty sure) is..Well I'll use a metaphor: When you have your first cigarette you have a certain tolerance rate. You get what's called a buzz. You're light headed, things are funny, and your balance is off. (I'll get into that later) Now after smoking one a day for a month you set your tolerance, if you smoke 3-4 however, you will get that buzz, until your lungs are used to it.
I think it's the same thing for you but with the pills. My guess is you're buzzed and it'll go away in an hour or so, try eating bread, and drinking. Then go to the bathroom and wash some of it out of your system. (I'm not a doctor and I don't know how that stuff works but that's what I do when I'm not feeling well, and it's the same basis.)

I hate taking medications. As a matter of fact, I've just simply stopped taking mine. Stopped over two years ago. I have bipolar disorder and anxiety (both treated with the same med).
I was put on first Welburtrin and then Lexapro. Both of them made me feel either depressed or numb. Numb as in I couldn't feel anything. It was worse than my Bipolar!

I'm not sure if this counts as medication, but I took this birth control shot, people call it depo, in October and it's supposed to last two months.
The side effects where supposed to be;
Irregular period.
Increase in acne.
And;
Weight gain.
Anyway, it caused me to become really hairy, it was weird and uncomfortable ;-;
I don't even want to talk about the acne. Lol.
I haven't had my period since October, that as like what? Six months ago.
For the first three months every time I ate something it felt like I was going to throw up. :/
Yet I gained 20 pounds.
It's a horrible medication it is.

God. My sister is on Zoloft which I think is a birth control, but she uses it for her mood. She hasn't stopped bitching for 3 weeks. :(

Aderol is just legal emphetamines... Or uppers or stimulants.
You feel high because you really are high...
See, I don't believe in ADHD... Thats just a mental disorder the pharmaceutical companies made up to push emphetamines onto children...Look, you concentrated soo hard you wrote that HUGE textwall! You have better concentration than I do. xD
Out of curiosity what was your dosage upped to?

Every time I had to take prednisone I was weirded out by the long list of horrible side effects on the bottle, my favorite of which was May cause you to vomit what looks like coffee grounds. If I didn't eat coffee grounds, I shouldn't throw them up.
Another steroid I had to take (flovent inhalor) made my hair fall out in fist fulls and caused my throat to be so dry it would crack and bleed. You should've seen the look on my co-workers face when I coughed hard and blood spattered on the computer screen in front of me. I refused to take it any more after that.

I had to stop taking Nasonex afterabout a week. It gave me the worst migraine that didn't go away till I quit taking the drug. No amount of sneezing is ever worth a week long headache that winds you up in bed for a full week.

I take a bit offense to your comment on ADHD >.<;; I do realize that ADHD is often overdiagnosed in children, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
I have ADD and didn't find out until I was 21 years old O.o I thought that I was "normal," but once I was finally diagnosed, all sorts of little weird things that I do now make more sense to me because they are common ADD things. And on meds, my mind is so quiet, it's wonderful <3 When I'm not on them, my mind is always racing with at least 4 things going through it at once. For awhile I even thought I might be possessed or schizophrenic or something like that with how there were all these different "voices" talking in my head at once. You have no clue what you are talking about... ADD and ADHD do exist and it's a natural (yet problematic) chemical imbalance in your brain.
...and just because both of us can focus long enough to type a long post doesn't mean anything O.o I used to read for hours on end when I was growing up. When you're on a streak like a rant or something like that it's easy to keep going unless something comes up to distract you. And there's no saying she did that post all in one sitting. I've gotten distracted and come back to Mene to find that I stopped typing mid-sentence before, so then I just finish it up and post it.
...back on topic, I've had all kinds of weird medication side effects. When I first started on birth control, it made me so sick at the beginning of each month that I couldn't make it to class, but thankfully I adjusted after a few months.
Also, back before I was diagnosed as ADD, they mistook it as an anxiety disorder and put me on Lexapro. I had the weirdest dream the first night I took it, there was a moment in it that all I can describe it as is "realer than real." Also, it made me very light sensitive to the point where even looking at a white piece of paper at school (because of the florescent lights) was blinding and gave me a headache. I still occasionally have days where I get light sensitive but not quite as badly even though I've been off of Lexapro for a couple of years now. I seriously think that stuff messed me up somehow >.<;
Also, when I first started my ADD meds, they made me very drowsy and loopy for a few days. They also messed with my appetite in a weird way so that I'd go through this cycle of being either extremely hungry and constantly snacking or feeling like eating nothing at all and just nibbling at my food at meals. I had to quit taking them for awhile because I just couldn't afford them anymore but I was able to start back on them about two weeks ago and this time starting on them I felt a bit jittery and my heart was racing. I'm used to them again, though, and they are wonderful things <3

Hey Ninja?
Zoloft isn't birth control in any way shape or form. It's an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor), a type of anti-depressant and anti-anxiety med. There's no hormonal birth control to it at all, just components that compete for binding space on serotonin reuptake nodes in the presynaptic terminals of your CNS. The result is that there's more serotonin available for the postsynaptic neuron to grab.
They should, in theory, help level out her moods, but she can still easily get knocked up on them.
Edit for addition: Schrodinger, if you start actually hallucinating, report it immediately. It sounds to me almost like you're in a version of an OD on this stuff, and you might want to let your doc know about this. For the record, other OD symptoms to watch for are tremors, fast breathing, confusion, fever, panic states, nausea vomiting and diarrhea, abdominal cramps, hyperreflexia (overresponsive reflexes) and cardiac arrhythmias - if any of those show up, call the doctor. Seriously. It's better than the OD.

I feel like there's so many medications around these days. For so many different things too. I feel bad for people who have to take these types of medicines as well.

I used to take Adderol. It totally killed my ability to socialize, so I stopped taking it. My concentration isn't that bad.

I don't remember the name of the medication, but it made me hallucinate when I took it. I was all topsy turvy! Body felt numb and I was scared to go to sleep. I was really giggly and everything. You'd think I was on crack or something. :XD It also happens when I take those NyQuil Nighttime Liquid Gel Caps.

Ditto. :lol: It was just the strangest feeling I had ever felt, haha. I'd be in bed, just staring at the ceiling, tracing the lines with my fingers -- and then out of nowhere, I'd start laughing my ass off. And when someone asked me why, I told them I really couldn't answer that. Because I had NO idea why I was laughing. I guess the somewhat numb feeling just made my body tingle a bit and whatnot.
I never EVER take that stuff anymore unless I truly have to. :XD

it's the oddest thing, isn't it? you know what you are doing, but you don't know why or how to stop it and you look like a total idiot in the process XD it has led to some interesting situations, though, I will admit... One guy tried to take advantage of me while I was on benedryl once, tried to get me to cyber with him. Luckily I wasn't that much out of it >.<;; but it's had some funny moments too.
