Do you have a solid internet Identity?
How well do people know you?
do you give real information or not? how well known is your username? do you change it or do you use the same in every site? In a scale from 1 to 10 , 10 being the maximun, how well known do you think you are online? how about well known in avie sites only? Why do people know you? do you have the same thread/charity everywhere? are you around the same forums all the time? do you keep friends along the sites? n_n I think it is fun to know =D |
I use the same name everywhere because it's one I chose as my screenname when I first started using the internet 9 years ago, so that's very solidly me. But I doubt it's "well known", I mean why would it be?
People who know you will recognise your name if they see it on another site, but that's just the same as your friend recognising you if they see you walking down the street in a different town, strangers don't know who you are and they couldn't care less either. Some people want to think of themselves as well-known, which makes me laugh I have to say. People who sign up here and say "Hi I'm blahblah from Gaia, you might know my name..." Er no...why would we? But anyone who says that is (nearly) always a really self-involved younger person anyway with an over-inflated opinion of their own importance. On a scale of 1 to 10 with regard to being well-known "online" in general, I'd say I register at around zero, same as the majority of people. I'm known on this site obviously, but what's that in the greater sceme of things? nothing. The people who know me elsewhere are only people that I know already from here or places where I was before I joined here. No-one's ever going to be all " OMG, you're that jellysundae from Menewsha!!!!!11!!" about me, and I wouldn't want them to be either. Unless you do something that gets you global net recognition (like Gary Brolsma for example) or you're a published graphic artist who's featured on different sites, or you run successful sites and so on, so actually contribute something visible to society, then there's no reason for anyone to gain internet recognition, or to think that they have. |
mmm maybe but I have seen people saying OMFG its Trin from "this place" or oh I know you from...? all around...but probably because I am in so many sites (and I mean many!!) same username, but this is not about me, I am not such self centered to think people know me, I made the thread because I wanted to see views on this and how some people think about themselves so thankies that is a valid opinion =)

I have the same username here as everywhere else--well, more or less. My name is a bit longer on Gaia, but it has Wordstreamer IN it.
And despite the fact that I would say I'm not well-known at all, someone recognized me on Gaia from Mene. :O Which was nice. And I think on another site or two. But to be fair, I recognize people on other sites from Mene, too. And once in a while from Gaia--usually people I already knew, though. But I think it's easier on smaller sites to recognize people from other smaller sites. I'd say a 0. But, yeah. I try to keep the same friends on whichever site--I don't magically like them more or less just because they're not on Mene at the moment. And I tend to stick around the same forums--kind of. Sometimes I lurk around all of the forums. On Gaia, I hide in the GCD (rather than lurking, say, the GD). Sometimes I'll hide in the Marketplace/Exchange forums. It varies. |
I'm not well known on the internet at all. I use the same user name for everything but my DA account, but I don't really do a lot to get myself noticed. I just kinda float around on sites like these and don't really get very active. I doubt there are that many people even on this site who know much about me. I'm an internet enigma.

I always use the same user name, so I'm pretty traceable, but I wouldn't see why anyone would try. I'm not very well known anywhere. I tend to lurk, and I don't usually make online friends unless I know them somehow through a real life friend. I'm constantly changing what I say about my information. ...Sometimes it's true if I don't think it matters that much, but then I still change it sometimes. It depends on my mood.

The people who know me on the internet know me fairly well. I've been myself as long as I've been online - nearly 13 years now - and I do generally honestly answer questions about myself, except for things like exact address, social security, bank accounts and the like. I'm a fairly open person that way.
I don't think this makes me an internets celebrity or anything, though. I stick to a few communities, and generally don't hang out outside them. If I am recognized, it's usually through the username - it's pretty unique, and if you've seen it one place, you recognize it. :D |
In wrestling chat (which I no longer go to), I'm fairly well-known. I give a little real information out. They know roughly where I live and my age and my real first name, that sort of thing. They all call me "Loven". My main Yahoo is "lovenraven2000", so everyone started calling me "Loven". I just stuck with it. Now, all of my messenger screennames start with "loven". For there, I'd say I'm about a 7? I haven't been there in months, so I might be forgotten by some.
On websites, I've started using "First to Never Know" or a variation of it a lot. On avatar sites only, I'm probably like a 1. I don't have well-established threads anywhere. I do tend to hang around the same forums a lot. I don't have friends on multiple sites, no. I don't have many friends on sites at all. |
I was well known in the Gaia Exchange back maybe three years ago but I quit. :D
