Wisdom Teeth.
Mene, I have to get my wisdom teeth taken out soon! Well..I'm not too sure when but I can feel them coming through. I am so nervous of the pain after.
Have you got your wisdom teeth yet? |
Mine have been bugging me like crazy lately, but we don't have the money to get them taken care of D:
|
I had mine out when I was 17, and trust me, there's no need to worry about the pain. You'll be prescribed medication to take care of it (honestly, I felt like I was floating on clouds while I was recovering - no pain at all). The worst part was waking up with all that gauze in my mouth; it was a little gross... but there was no pain. :)
|
I got mine out a few years ago, they had to knock me out to get all four but I feel much better that they are all out.
|
I have two of my wisdom teeth and they bug the crap out of me.
But, I don't have the money to get them taken out right now. And unfortunately, one of them has a good chunk of it that's missing and I can't eat on that side of my mouth or else the food will get stuck in it. IT SUCKS! |
I had to get mine out about this time last year. It wasn't that bad. The gauze was the worst for me too. You might want to be careful if you have a sensitive gag reflex. But there wasn't much pain and I slept a lot for the first few days. I didn't even end up needing most of the pain and nausea medicine that they gave me.
But if you need to get your wisdom teeth out, I would suggest that you don't procrastinate if you can help it. The older you get, the longer the roots of your wisdom teeth get. Not only does this mean that they have to cut deeper, but the roots can become twisted around the major nerves in your jaw which can cause complications. I found that out the hard way, but fortunately I did not suffer any complications. If they haven't already, you should have your family invest in some Gatorade. It helps. Quote:

Mine will never grow out...at least, my lower ones never will. I went to have my teeth checked up at the dentist's once and they had this on-going program of X-raying your teeth for free. I got one and the dentist told me that the teeth before my wisdom teeth are crooked and thus blocking the wisdom teeth's way. My jaw bone also got in the way, so my wisdoms are like trapped behind a corner. No chance of them ever growing out like that. The dentist told me that there's chance of infection in the future, though unless it actually does get infected, she doesn't recommend me to have them removed, as the roots of the teeth are very close to my nerves and operating on them might accidentally destroy my nerves.
As for my upper ones...they're blocked by crooked teeth as well, but I'm not sure if they'll grow out or not. I'm currently 20 years old and so far there're no signs of it growing out except for the usual bulge of the flesh in the back where they reside. It's been like that for years, so I guess they won't be coming out... |
You will most likely feel pretty good on the 1st or 2nd day after you get your wisdom teeth out. DO NOT WALK AROUND. Stay in bed, watch movies and be lazy. I was given pain medication that didn't wear off until the 3rd day. I also was prescribed pain medication, and it didn't work as well as i thought it would. Don't exert energy except for healing.
There was a lunar eclipse the 2nd day after I got them removed and I ran around outside with my family because lunar eclipses are awesome. I felt it tenfold the next day. T__T Eatting gets weird too, since you have holes in the back of your mouth. |
I had mine taken out when I was 26, they seemed just fine until about a year before then, except that the top ones seemed a bit small. I don't think the bottom ones really needed to be taken out, but it did leave my mouth a lot less crowded.
I had a lot of nausea afterwords for mine, but I didn't think the pain was that bad at all. I would have been fine to do most things just a few hours later, I think. I do still have a little numb spot on my tongue from it, but it doesn't really bother me, and it didn't affect my sense of taste. The one thing I can advise is to read the little post surgery instructions sheet, for whatever little thing bothers you after the event. My mother totally didn't even tell me I got one, and it would have saved me a LOT of trouble. ._. Don't take those scary videos they show you about the procedure to heart. Sometimes there's something as too much information. |
I feel mine occasionally but they aren't visible yet.
I hope they don't become painful, I don't think I have the money to get them removed either. |
not yet...</3 I hope not for a longtime.

Sooo...I have a funny story to go with this...And since it's worth telling, I will be veering a little off topic...but not much. I was about to graduate and desperately needed a car. I had no money and was too busy with school to work to save up for a down payment for a car. I was looking through our school newspaper and noticed an add looking for students to participate in an experimental drug study. In order to qualify, you had to have at least 2 impacted wisdom teeth. Well lucky me, I had 4 impacted teeth. So I got paid $500 to be a guinea pig after the surgery was conducted. The surgery was standard, but after it, I had to stay with 3 other people and wait while they gave us drugs and we reported our "pain" levels. I must have either gotten placebo or advil (the other drugs we could have gotten were a pain med with asprin, or just the traditional pain meds for wisdom teeth removal surgery) because I was wide awake while the other people were sound asleep after the surgery.
Anyway, it was not a bad deal. They fed us and gave us movies to watch for 4 hours after our surgery...After about an hour of no reported "pain relief" I was given real pain meds. Not to mention the 500.00 that I used for my first car. The surgery itself was not drama. I do recommend you stock up on yummie soft foods like yogurt, pudding and ice cream. Ooohh and avoid couscous at all costs, the stuff gets stuck in your "holes" and is not fun to get out. |
My wisdom teeth have shown up.. and it's been planned for two years to have them removed... >.> I keep putting it off because they don't bother me at all and I'd rather not go through that pain if they aren't bothering me.
Too bad my dentist doesn't think the same way. |
Next week i'm getting them out. >.<
|
Mine are all growing in, so odds are I'm going to have to get them out eventually. They don't bother me often, but the other night the one on the bottom right was hurting me so bad. Then I woke up the next morning and I was fine. I just have to make sure that I get them out before they mess with my straight teeth. I spent three years wearing braces for these teeth and I'm not going to let anything mess that up.
My mom is 48 and got her wisdom teeth pulled about two years ago. She seemed fine. |
@White_rose: Thanks for the advice.
I bought some last night and I will try it and see how it works. <3 |
My wisdom teeth seem to be taking forever to grow all the way in but, that may be because of the fact that I don't have enough room in my mouth for them. Sometimes they make me bite the inside of my mouth and the ones on the bottom are still covered up with some gums so when I eat, sometimes the top ones stab the bottom ones and it hurts. I really wish I had the money to get them removed, they're driving me crazy.

Ugh. I'm going to be honest, it was one of the worst surgical experiences that I've had yet (mind you, I've had quite a few). When I was sixteen all four of mine came in impacted and two of them become infected about a month before my surgery was to take place. I was on pain meds and antibiotics for that, and, unfortunately, they pretty much killed my immune system. About three days before the scheduled surgery I started feeling awful. I came home aching and then I began to get this awful pain up and down my arms and legs. I had a 104F fever the night before my surgery. Needless to say, I had the flu. We had to postpone the whole operation for a few days until my doctors cleared me which was the worrrssstteee. Anyway, even though I wasn't 100% yet my main physician told me that I can get them out and I did. I had a... 100F fever that day? Something like that. Much beter than it had been. So, I went in to have them out. Mind you, I have a few medical conditions that led to me not being able to be knocked out all the way. Also, I'm immune to novacaine and septacane. I woke up half way through the procedure, they realized soon after and upped the dossage of the general anesthesia. So, I woke up fine and it was all good and dandy until I got home. My fever jumped up to 103F and I was tossing the strawberry shake I had for lunch as well as all the meds into the toilet. That happened a few times more over the next three days. I thought I was good after that... until I began to feel some terrible pain in my jaw. The stitches on one of the incision areas popped and were infected while the other three had dry socket. A month and a half of hell and a ton of vicodin later and I was addicted and completely healed (albeit with warped scars).
Jeeze, what a rant. Sorry! Haha. Mind you, I had an unusal experience. If you're healthy and take care of yourself, you should be fine.... just don't use a straw when you drink. xD OH and don't leave your gauze in for too long. =P |
Hmm. I got mines a couple or more years ago. It didn't really bother me. In fact some of them i didn't notice came out. And some of them was annoying when it was coming out of my gums. XP
|
Ooh, that sucks. Me, too. :C
My boyfriend got them out a few months ago, and he was really woozy just after the surgery (by the way, you will probably puke, but you won't remember it, lol.) and couldn't eat solid food for a week or two, but he was otherwise fine. It was a bit of a hassle for him, but it didn't hurt too terribly bad because they put him on some strong aspirin (usually aspirin doesn't work on my boy, but lucky for him it did this time) |
Don't worry you'll be fine.....
|
I just got news from my dentist today, actually, that I have to go to the orthodontist to get my wisdom teeth removed. Some food is getting trapped back there and that could lead to infection. Inside, I sorta-kinda quake. But I know I will just have to suck it up and take my medicine (I will probably actually have to take medicine. So it is not just a figure of speech). So wish me luck with that. :P

I think my wisom teeth are growing in, but so far, no one has said that they'll be a problem or that they'll have to be removed. My sister however, just had four wisdom teeth pulled. During the proceedure there is no pain, because they numb you up, and they may even put you on laughing gas. Afterwards you'll be numb for quite a while, and it akes days for it to wear off completey. You'll have to stick to soft if not liquid foods for a while, and if there's any pain, they give you a strong painkiller to deal with it. They gave my sister Vikadin(sp?). x' D |
I have to get mine taken out this summer because they are impacted and have been causing me some pain recently.
|
Got all four of mine removed a few months ago; two or three were surgically removed D:
The recovery isn't as bad as I was hearing; I was eating hard foods within a week. My only problem was that my gums didn't clot properly so I bled a lot; got the taste of blood with everything I ate and drank. So always have some water on you to wash you mouth out now and again. |
