DID?.

I've somewhat recently got to know someone that has told me they have DID.
DID= Dissociative Identity Disorder.
If I can describe it from what I know, it causes people to disassociate from themselves as if they have multiple souls inhabiting their body.

Just wondering if there's any DID peeps around here.
I have to admit, as much as I try to be empathic, this is a difficult concept for me to grasp. Even spoke with someone online about it before.

Veiss Wynd 08-20-2009 02:58 AM

Is it in any sense like multiple personality disorder? Forgive me if I've offended. I also can't seem to grasp just what DID is, though I'm very curious about it.

EsmayInTheSky 08-20-2009 03:18 AM

I don't know if I have THAT exactly but I do have times where this girl, who is like me only really REALLY mean, takes over my body occasionally. My boyfriend fears her because she absolutely hates him and likes to bite him because it hurts him. We call her Dark. I'm not sure what she is whether or not she is real but when she's around it feelings like I'm sleeping and I don't remember a single thing. I Try not to tell my friends this because a lot of my friends worry about that sort of thing. She claims to be from the 1600s and she likes to taunt me in my mind. It also could be that I'm crazy.... =3

Huh, that sounds somthing i wont to know more about.
Cuss i wounder if that would then couse differnt personality or an inner war or.. Wow
Actully thank you for posting!
*runs off to learn!*

Actually, yes.
I don't usually like telling people that though, so I won't say anything else about it.

KaitieTheNerd 08-20-2009 05:59 AM

i don't have that. i looked it up on wikipedia, you made me curious. it is a multiple identity dissorder. like, you have another identity that swiches with the other one {or ones} from time to time, and so one minute you could be all nice and sweet, everyone's best friend, and a bit later you could be some snobby bitch, and etc. o_O what they all must be going through...

Darkness_Embraced 08-20-2009 06:27 AM

Hmm, that sounds interesting... i wanna know more!!!
*looks it up on Bing*

*takes out a list of Anxieties and Disorders"
Nope not on my list.

But there was this girl who I was talking to from Canada, she told me her mother had something similar... I don't know if she was kidding or being serious. Not like I would know, and I don't think I want to go to Canada and find out XD

Veiss Wynd 08-20-2009 07:37 PM

I wiki'd it too. It is more or less what I thought it'd be. I'm fascinated by the fact that most cases initially happen here in NA, and that until not too long ago it was thought to only happen in the North American continent.
The symptoms, I can only empathize with too. I can't even imagine the difficulties of trying to live a normal daily life.

Sometimes I wonder if I might have something like that, or some other personality disorder.
There is not much I can say about it though, I have tons of problems remembering things on top of it all...
But... I don't know... Sometimes I just feel... Like I'm not myself... But I still feel like myself?
That probably makes no sense...

I don't know :(

What a scary thought..I mean..how can you get a job with such a characterchange O_O

DID = the new name for multiple personality disorder, for those who don't know.

Anyway, I honestly don't think the disorder actually exists. I think it's the result of a pretty severe dissociative disorder and the power of suggestion. Therapists being overeager to toss all sorts of diagnoses and pills at you doesn't help :\

tamurilmarie 08-21-2009 12:09 AM

is this similar to multiple personalities, or the proper name for it?

Veiss Wynd 08-21-2009 03:55 AM

@tamurilmarie: Some people now call it that, but it seems that it's the same thing.

I think I'll have to agree with Fabby. It's also debated among doctors, but it does seem like something more in relation to psychology and the power of suggestion.
I wonder if perhaps it may trigger on some people due to trauma? Like a faulty defense mechanism? I anticipate when more information becomes available about how this works.

tamurilmarie 08-21-2009 04:11 AM

@Veiss: when i was taking psychology our teacher suggested that what has happened in some people is during a tramatic experience the person "leaves their body" and then somehow they create other personalities and use it as a form of escaping that tramatic experience

We watched the movie Sybil in the class, it was crazy

khrome 08-21-2009 11:25 AM

nope. not me. though, people think i have ADD or something, especially since i have trouble paying attention to things from time to time, and i need to concentrate on one thing, not on two.

i know right? it would be just awful, especially with more than two personalities. you'd probably tick off the boss on the first day! poor people... :'(

kidalana 08-22-2009 03:04 AM

That's not what I'd thought it would be, with a name like that. Right now it sounds just like MPD. :/

What is Sybil about? I imagine it's based on something like or in relation to DID?

Laurine 08-22-2009 04:40 AM

well i don't think anyone could tell you that they have DID because most people don't know they have it unless they've gone to a doctor for it. A lot of people don't know that they have it.

Veiss Wynd 08-22-2009 05:09 AM

I'm sure someone tells them. Their immediate family. No way someone could not notice the change, considering the typical changes people go through when experiencing it.

~iBlazian~ 08-22-2009 06:24 AM

It sounds familiar- does it have anything to do with mood swings, just curious, but it sounds like a more serious version of that. I don't seem to understand either.
