I guess it's because peoples' parents often save the embarrassing names for middle names. Like, they wanted to call their child PrincessPeachykins, but thought they might get picked on at school for it, so they used it as a middle name instead.

My middle name is Olivia, and I've never really liked it very much. It's not that I find it embarrassing, it's just that it's just so... well, dull.
I grew up with a very unusual name (my real first name is Cherish, and my maiden name was Goldstraw) and when people saw my middle initial was "O" they'd get all excited and expect my middle name to be something equally as unusual as the rest of my name. When I'd tell them it stood for Olivia it was always like a big anti-climax.

I dunno, I really like mine! What's to be embarrassed about it? Mine's Rose, after one of my great great grandmother's or aunt's. Nope! I like it just fine~

My middle name is Thomas. Not as interesting as I'd like, but at least it's not anything... Well, terrible. 9___9

I mean, Thomas is a pretty safe choice, especially for a middle name. So I've no complaints, although I wish my middle name was a little bit more... uncommon, AND safe. o;

I think the embarrassment stems from our parents only using our full names when we get in trouble and sometimes middle names are more uncommon and therefore kinda odd.
Mine is Renee, which I like. People tend to kill my first name, so for someone I'm only gonna talk to for a day or so (or less) I give them Renee as my name.
I wouldn't change my middle name, it has a lot of meaning to me, and even more to my mother.

I mean, our last names comes from our father. Our first name is chosen by our parents. So then, where does our middle name come from? Is it made up as well, or perhaps it is out mother's maiden name, or something like that.

My dad doesn't like his middle name because its Eugene and that sounds girly to him? My mom's middle name is Kay. So just 'K' but she writes it out. xD

I, on the other hand, have two middle names: Merina and Salome. One is named after a great aunt who died when she was in her teens... (and I had health issues of the same sort, coincidentally), and the other is... biblical? And I think my dad's stand-in mother's doing (my generation of family does call her grandma, but she's technically not, just a close family friend who was seemingly adopted in. A friend of my dad's mother, I think...).

edit: Also, my girlfriend's name in general she dislikes. Her full name? Faith A. Christian. People guess at the A... is angel? Is it? NO. It's just Ann. She hates her name, and it just screams religious, doesn't it? Not quite her thing. And she was so close to being named Ferarri (like the car), too. o_O (And her brother ended up Cory but was going to be Corvette.) .......she just chose her own name and goes by Terra among friends.

Well it afftend doesn't come up unless in school they call it out (for some odd reason i do suppose) but people who have diffrent middle names get made fun of in my school (such retards there). but my middle name is Anne and i don't seem to mind it. Its a kinda artsy name just like my first (which is none of your bussiness sorryy ^_^). So i don't mind it but don't love it either. So i don't think i would change it even if i could. Teehee.

If I post here do I HAVE to tell you my middle name?? I don't really want to. I'd rather have people try to guess it if that's okay.

My middle name is completely original. My mom chose it in homage to a friend she really respected. In fact I don't think there is anyone else who has the same middle name as me! I could be wrong.....

Middle names give parents the chance to choose something that isn't quite as normal as the first name because their child isn't really going to be called by it (normally). It's just an extra initial on any paperwork you fill out when you get down to it so I guess that makes it easier to name a child an odd name ^^;

My middle name is Constance, after my grandmother. I like it but I wouldn't want to be called it every day. My brother's middle name is actually my mom's maiden name. My mom did that to pass down the name since she had no brothers to do so by having kids.
