My middle name is "Janie." There is a long, depressing story behind it, so you don't have to keep reading if you don't want to.
Once, my mom had a cousin named Janie. Janie was allergic to dairy products. One day, when she and her parents were on a vacation to Canada, they went to a restraunt. Janie picked a meal from the menu and asked the waiter, "Does this meal have any dairy in it?" The waiter, thinking it wasn't important, said, "No, there isn't any dairy in the meal." Janie ordered the meal and ate it. 24 hours later, she died. That really did happen, I didn't make that up. When I was born, my mom (Who had been very close to Janie) decided to name me "Nicola Janie." "Nicola" because my dad insisted on it and "Janie" in memory of my mom's cousin. I don't think my middle name is embarrassing, I just get depressed because of that story. But, anyway, I wouldn't change my middle name. Ever. I like it... Well, I would like it if it wasn't for the dramatic story. =/ |
I am not to sure why most people are more embarrassed by their middle name than their other names. It strikes me as odd, too. Mine is Amber. It is a pretty name, but I have a dislike for it. Everyone that I have met with the name Amber is rude, conceited, and/or whorish. Also, two of my exes dated girls named Amber before dating me, so it was awkward for them. I am not saying that every girl named Amber is the way I described, that is simply my luck with the Ambers that I have met. So please take no offense if your name is Amber.
If I cared enough to change my middle name, I would probably change it to Astra, or something else that has to do with stars. :) |
My middle name doesn't bother me, but I know someone who had the middle name Galadriel because her parents were obsessed with LOTR when they had her. I can see being embarrassed if that were a person case because it's something jerkwads would poke fun at.

My middle name is Christine. Robin Christine. It has a nice flow to it. |
My middle name is Charity. Honestly, I have NOOOO idea where it came from.... But it's unique so I like it. I always thought the name Jasmine was pretty but I know too many people with that name so I wouldn't change it. Nor would I name any of my children that if I had any for that reason. I can understand why some people don't like they're middle names. Sometimes you hear the names parents give their children and it's embarrassing! My friend's cousin first name was Robin and her middle name was Hood. So she always got made fun of when she was in elementary school. Even by my friend! LOL So yeah. There's probably other reasons why people don't like their middle names But I can't think of them now...

Mines anthony and i wouldn't want to change it because i dont want it to be the same as someones middle name.

Hm... I think many people are bothered by their middle names because their parents like to pick something cute that wouldn't quite work for their first name. Or often, I think it's that the middle name doesn't match the person themselves and it embarrasses them. Like an athletic girl with the middle name "Annabelle" and the first name "Jordan". Annabelle is a more, cute or artistic type name. Where as Jordan is usually a tomboyish or boy's name.
Personally, I don't have a middle name. |
True true!! There are tons of people that choose to not even say what it is. Typically you only ge t an initial. But middle names aren't usually that bad to be honest. But I've got a few friends that are just like that. As for me though, I don't have one. Only a 1st and last name that's all.

My middle name is Lourdes and I don't hate it but I don't love it either. I just hate when people call me "Lulu" or "Andylulu" or "Little Lulu"... It's very annoying :stare:.
|
My middle name is Lee, which everyone finds wierd because it's a boys name.
|
Mine is Olivia. The name is fine and dandy but I hate where it comes from. My grandmother "Olive". I laugh so hard whenever I think of it. My real name is Arianne, and I prefer that much more.
|
I like my middle name it's Hope, the only thing I hate about it is no one ever really believes it's my middle name...

I really don't know why I get so embarrassed by my middle name.
Maybe its because my mom only used it when I was in trouble. So now, when ever I hear it I'll feel bad like I did something wrong as a kind of trained response. Or maybe I mean conditioned? But what ever the reason, I would just get rid of it all together! Why people even have middle names is a mystery to me! I have two myself, and I would be more then happy to share the 'love'. One name is enough for any person! And while I'm on the subject of names, I've always been under the impression that when a kid turns 18, or when ever he thinks himself an adult, they should be able to pick their own name! I hear parents all the time worry about whether their baby will like their name or if it will fit them. My suggestion is always to let them pick it. Of course, no one has taken me up on this idea yet... >.> |
You know what pisses me off? The fact that my parents never gave me a middle name.
Then again, maybe it's a good thing. I guess that means I can always invent my own.. -ponders- Lynn, or Rachael, or even something else. Hmm, the possibilities. |
maybe I am the only one here that like my middle name??? Who knows? I guess if parents call you middle name only when they are mad at you is kindof wrong. My parents never did that to me...I guess I am lucky.

I don't mind my middle name it's Elizabeth, and my first and middle name go together quite well, it's my last name that doesn't really go well with the rest of my name.

I'm not sure where you're from, but Lee is a very common Girls/boys name where I'm from. |
Mine is Rae. I used to go by that instead of my first name for a long time. Some people still call me Rae or Rae Rae. I like it better than my first name at least.
|
Most people's middles names kinda suck, imo. Which is why they're embarrassed about them. The names are usually pretty commonplace or outdated. I'm okay with mine, but my full legal name together--Jessica Marie--sounds really prissy and stuck in the 80's.

My middle name is Lynn and I used to like it way more than my first name, Nicole, because my own brothers would call me "Picky Nikki" and such so I didn't really care for it. Funnily enough, my sister started calling me Nic(k) a few years ago and that's sort of caught on. xD I still like my middle name more though. I've always wanted Artemis or Polaris as a middle name though.
I think parents like choosing names that have meaning or some kind of history to them. For example, Lynn was one of my grandmothers' names. I agree that some have the "cute" factor, but not all of them because some seem graceful or as I've seen a few mentioned before in this thread, they sound artistic or tomboyish. |
I have always thought it was odd too, I have never seen any reason to be embarassed by a name. My middle name is Charlotte, I actually like Charlotte better than my first name :P
I don't think I would want to change my middle name. I wouldn't mind swapping it with my first though. I greatly dislike Mellinda. |
Charlotte's a really pretty name! I'm jealous. My fiance's middle name is Francis, which he kind of hates. Then again, his dad's name is Francis Ignatius, so he really can't complain too much. ;p
|
I like the name Francis actually, I prefer it as a girls name though, same with Charley. I am afraid that his father was dealt a pretty duff card with Ignatius
My boyfriends middle name is Michael. Pretty plain really, none of his names are really anything to get embarrassed about. My last name is, I hate it. though seriously, who would think about calling their kid Mellinda Meach? *shakes head* |
My middle name doesnt bother me, i dont know some people do get some odd middle names.. i dont know why it bothers people to tell people their middle names unless they get made fun of for it all the time.
my middle name is Marie and i wouldnt change it it flows nicely with my name =P |
