ElysiumFate 11-08-2009 06:43 AM

Won't state my first name for privacy reasons, but it means "princess," "soul," and "lady." Very fitting under some circumstances though I am by no means a spoiled, snotty, brat like the "princess" suggests.

Patricia - English: Noble
Louise - English: Famous warrior

XP
Pretty much all the names in my family had 'Enlgish' names.

Clarise 11-08-2009 03:38 PM

My real name means 'nobel' or 'truthful' and is an Old English variant of a German name.

My user name, Clarise, comes from the Latin word 'clara,' which means bright, but is also sometimes used to mean famous. That's why you will see both definitions if you look them up.

Oh, by the way, I know Latin, so there's no quoteing done in here. It all came from my head, and what I remember of what people have told me/ I have read about my own name.

Lynds 11-08-2009 08:44 PM

My name's Monica which means:

Quote:

MONICA
Gender: Feminine

Usage: English, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Late Roman

Pronounced: MAHN-i-kə (English) [key]

Meaning unknown, most likely of North African or Phoenician origin. In the 4th century this name was borne by the North African saint Monica of Hippo, the mother of Saint Augustine, whom she converted to Christianity. Since the Middle Ages it has been associated with Latin moneo "advisor" and Greek monos "one". As an English name, Monica has been in general use since the 18th century.
Although in Romania, my name's pronounced: Moe-nee-kaw

Here's another quote of my name, I like this one better though:
Quote:

Ancient name of uncertain etymology.

Monica was the name of the mother of St. Augustine, who was burn in Numidia. Thus the name might be of African origin. However, Monica is said to have been a citizen of Carthage, a city founded by the Phoenicians, so her name might be of Phoenician origin.

Alternatively, some believe it to be from the Latin 'moneo' to advise, warn, counsel; or from the Greek 'monos, monč', meaning alone, unique, solitary.

More recently, famous Monicas have included Monica Lewinsky, with whom US President Bill Clinton had an affair, the 'Friends' character Monica Geller, and actress Monica Bellucci.
========================

My middle name is Joyce which means:
Quote:

JOYCE
Gender: Feminine & Masculine

Usage: English

Pronounced: JOIS [key]

From the (masculine) medieval name Josse, which was derived from the earlier Ioceus or Iodocus, which were Latinized forms of the Breton name Jodoc meaning "lord". The name belonged to a 7th-century Breton saint, and it was introduced to England by Breton settlers after the Norman conquest. It died out after the 14th century, but was later revived as a feminine name, perhaps because of similarity to the word joy. This given name also formed the basis for a surname, as in the case of the Irish novelist James Joyce (1882-1941).
I decided to add another quote for my middle name too:

Quote:

Though usually used as a feminine name today, Joyce is a traditionally masculine name. It derives from an old Breton name meaning "experienced in battle," but many parents today choose it because it contains the word "joy."

Famous bearers include Joyce Hall - the founder of Hallmark cards, actress Joyce Grenfell and novelist Joyce Carol Oates.

It was also the surname of novelist James Joyce.

Eleadah 11-09-2009 07:13 AM

My middle name Eleadah (pronounced el-e-ah-dah), also my username, is hebrew and it means God has adorned. Quite funny since i'm the only blonde in my family of brunettes and dark hair.
all ov my sisters have hebrew names as out middle names. Eleana, Elisha, Eleadha, and Eliasah. I forget what they all mean but i'm pretty sure i spelled them all right if you want to look up their meanings if you feel like it.
