Born in the wrong era?
So which era, do you think you'd ideally be born in?
I am asking this because, sometimes I feel like I belong more in the Victorian England, than these modern times.... And I was wondering if I am the only one, or there's others than me? |
Overall I am glad I am born in this area except I hate the effects of overpopulation on well...everything. So maybe I'd like to have been in the time after they solve overpopulation ( if that happens in the future).
I know as much as I like some aspects, I don't think I'd want to be born in the Victorian area, especially due to my gender. As for "good old" days... My great grandmother was "given away" in marriage to some man her parents picked at age sixteen. He was 23 yrs old. Then she had seven children with him and her only joy was to visit the circus. I mean today...This would be a legal case and her husband would be in jail as a pedophile. When I was 16 yrs old, I was trying to get into the tropical fish industry and in high school. I was always so goal oriented. When I was 23 , I was in the local college since my parents couldn't afford for me to leave for college. I had to continue to live at my parents house to save money. While my great grandmother was having her forced motherhood, I was off getting higher education and then spending years job fighting. While my life can be hard, I'm sure my great grandmother would have liked the chance to be in school and to have the oppertunity to fight for a job. |
I'm perfectly happy being born when I was. I loved the 80s, 90s and today. I'm addicted to the internet. I really wouldn't want to give this all up for some glorified romanticized view of another time.
Romanticism has always bugged me. Like the way cowboys are romanticized. No one ever thinks about the dust or the hot sun, the potential to be trampled by cows. So many things are not romantic about cowboys! Likewise, living in an era without modern medicine such as the Victorian Era just makes me shudder. Not to mention that not everybody gets to be high class and enjoy the best the lifestyle has to offer. Most people would end up poverty stricken workers living hard lives of back breaking labor and trying not to die from whatever the disease of the week is. So yeah, I like living today. I'd have it no other way. |
I'd love to combine modern conveniences with St. Thomas Aquinas morality. I'd say an era instead of a teacher, but then all eras, morally speaking, have since slid down the muddy slope to this one. If I said the Victorian or Edwardian age, I would just be plopping us down right before everything went to hell. It's bad enough to be living in this kind of world. I think it would be worse to have to watch it get that way.

The ice age xD I have enough blubber to keep me warm =)
|
I'm actually happy with this era. It's kind of dangerous and smelly (at times) but all in all it's nice. :)
I guess if I was born before this era I wouldn't know what i'm missing, so i'd be happy with it, but all in all I feel like this is the place for me to be because of all the technology. :) |
I've always thought that I was born in the wrong time.. but I don't really know what time I belong in, maybe I'm just an odd person.
I like where I am right now, the internet is an awesome invention.... |
Same as fuyumi; I'm out of place, but I don't know where 'home' would be.. ^^;
..when I was little, I thought I came from outer space..XD I had a very strange dream about that..how I was left in a tree stump, and two humans found me.. Never saw what I looked like in the dream, just all wrapped up in something white. lol ..anyway..I doubt it is that. I think it would be interesting to see the world as my ancestors did, and to travel back in time to Ireland as it was long ago. :3 ..hey..they had potatoes at least. XD |
I am pretty fine being born in the late twentieth century. Sure, most of my interests come from the late 19th early 20th century, but I just think it wouldn't work out that much. I like being different, and technology today is just so advanced that it is really cool to look at it evolve and now I actually refer to song lyrics and not sound weird! *dances*

I don't understand when women say they want to live in the Victorian age for clothing style. That's just idiotic. A rich woman's place was in the home, and a poor woman's place was in the factory or the streets. Health care was none existant, labor lawz didn't exist, and women were objects.
Victorian era was a shithole. :/ I'm content with my own era, the person who I am now is catered to this era anyways. |
I wouldn't want to live in the Victorian Era. I mean, come on? Women wouldn't be able to read or write, go anywhere without a male escort, express their opinions. There'd be no indoor plumbing, no electricity, and no modern medicine. You'd think disease was caused by bad smells! No air conditioning, no heat, no baths every day. Yuck.
But I'd like to be a baby boomer. So that I could grow up to be a part of the peace movement and fight for women's rights in second wave feminism and against the Vietnam war. Participate in a sit in or two. The baby boomers have such an amazing generation, and I look up to them and have so much respect for them all. |
I dunno. I would've loved to live in Ancient Egypt, or Medievel Scotland. But most days I feel like I should've been born either in Victorian England, or in the 70's. But the England is just because I look so damn good, and the only time I feel like a princess in corsets and Victorian dresses. But some where between the 70's/ 80's.. yeah.
|
Either in Elizabethan England or sometime around the Dark Ages, give or take a century.
Except for the fact that women had so very few rights in those times. |
Lol. Although I don't think that I was born in the wrong era, simply due to my obsession with modern music, I would so very muchly so love to have lived in the early 1800's of England or other European country. I do so love the dress of that age and am slightly obsessed with it. All of my favorite movies take place right in the ear and I always find myself drawing something from around that time if not before. So, if it weren't for the music and freedom of women, I would have loved to live before the 1800's.

I have never really thought of it that way.
I would like to have been born maybe a few years before I did. Who knows. :3 As for extreme eras.. Send me to Victorian Gothic Please~ |
I feel that I was born several hundred years too early. Though considering the path we seem to be following, I'm starting to wonder if I'm better of where I am now. I mean, here and now isn't bad, but man am I feeling depressed at the lack of space travel. Ahh, to be amongst the stars! That's where I'd love to be.
|
I definitely think i was.... I just can't fit in here... =(
|
I also some times feel that I belong in the Victorian England or Victorian France. And I just adore some of the fashion of the time!
|
As much as I completely adore computers, I sometimes think I was born a few generations too late. I think I would have been better off being born in the same decade as my mother, aka the sixties. I try to hide it, but I really do have some flower-child tenancies.
If not the sixties, I'd have to say the twenties. I have a great fondness for the flapper style and attitude. |

I'd probably fit in the fifties very well. Dresses with full skirts, and the beginning of rock and roll.
|
Yes, I was. The future. I think because you can kind of think of anything for it.
Otherwise, I like my era. As long as it isn't the early 1900's, because of WWI, WWII, lack of equal rights. |
I honestly wish I was born before any sort of digital technology was invented to make us fat and lazy. So I think I'd fit best somewhere before the 1900's. Or at least near 1900. The only thing I couldn't live without though would be my music. I'm a metalhead, and that kind of didn't exist before the 70's...... Sad.
|
Hmm, when I was younger I thought of wishing to live durning a different time than my own. But now when I think of it...I do not think I could handle the taking up the life of what people had to go through centuries ago. I am too pampered and lazy...heck, I do even like to do laundry that literally only takes a button to do it. Furthermore, I do not like the idea of bearing children.

I was supposed to be born during the middle ages. Or the sixties. Or the nineties. OH WAIT I WAS BORN IN THE NINETIES HAR HAR. |
