I have a sad angery face too. But, people should mind thier own business. Once some one did that to me and I flat out told them, "my mother just had a heart attack and I can't get to where she is for an other three days. Did you need help with something?" I was at work. It was a bad day alright.
Ohh and my mom is fine now. |
People always think I'm angry or depressed when I'm not, and whenever anything IS wrong, no one notices. It gets really annoying.
|
Ah. XD
This happens to me all the time as well. I don't talk alot when I'm at home and when my friends randomly show up the bombard me with questions on why I'm not speaking as much. When they fail to realize I'm very introverted. :/ It annoys me quite a bit. |
People do that to me all the time too, but I tend to be snippy so I don't really blame them. It really does get annoying though. Worse is 'turn that frown upside-down'. It makes me want to slap people. I once answered a guy with 'I'll turn something upside-down' and he got all freaked out and looked at me like I was a serial killer.
Really, people are just trying to be nice, but I have no idea why people think that sort of thing is nice and not just irritating. |
See that's kind of annoying. If someone is happy is not necessary to express it by smiling. There are moments for smiling and moments that not. See you can't be smiling all the time, people will think you are crazy. :XD
I personally don't like to smile. Not that I'm emo or something, I'm happy but I just don't like to smile. Even on pictures, my relatives always tell me to smile at family pictures, but I don't like it. So in all my family pictures I'm serious. |
Eh, I guess he was just trying to be nice. D: Nobody has said that to me. xD So I am in a stump to help ya. ^^;
|
sorry to say, but no one has ever said anything like that to me...
Probably because my face has color and I hide the fact that I am in a bad mood when I am in a bad mood. I am really good at disguising myself. Also I never smile cause it hurts my face, so maybe people can see that? |
Ah its funny, I almost always have the same expression on my face, especially when I'm around strangers, it makes me look like I'm pissed off when I'm actually calm and not angry at all, lol. So people tend to think I'm constantly in a bad mood, in a way its funny though.
|
Heh, I tend to look either sad or serious when I'm not consciously controlling my face so I get asked "what's wrong?" all the time! It's so annoying when people ask me that because nothing is wrong but they insist something is. After a while my friends get it but... people I've just met always pester me about it.
I've never had someone tell me that like that. A couple people have said it but usually in a situation where it makes sense like when my parents used to take me to the dentist or doctor and it was pretty obvious how scared I was. |
I agree with some of the people here, their saying it just to kinda cheer you up or whatever.
But I've never actually heard someone say that myself. |
No one has every said that to me, but to be honest if they did it would seriously tick me off. First of all, if I'm upset it's none of their business. I don't know them, they don't know me.
Second of all, if I'm upset about something, it's really going to make me feel so much better to know that everyone around me knows there's something on my mind, now I get to be upset and self conscious. Finally, what if it is that bad? What if something absolutly terrible just happened, and I'm doing my best to cope with it and put it out of my mind, and someone just walked up and reminds me that I've got something to be down about. Even if they're trying to be nice, there are some situations where you should just keep your thoughts to yourself. Sure you might help, but you also might just make everything worse. |

Wow this thread generated a lot of posts. I'm suprised lol. |
similar thing happens to me all the time. when i'm thinking, which i do a lot, for some reason i look depressed. and then one of of my friends will ask me, 'what's wrong?' and no matter how long they've known me, they never remember not to ask. and then i get all pissed off and i just say, 'i don't feel like talking anymore.' ..... it sucks, cuz i usually hate being disturbed while i'm in thought as well, so that adds to the annoyance.
i think all we can do is just try to bear with it... or try to keep a better check on our facial expressions. xP |
What I find depressing is many of the responses are filled with attitude towards a very harmless saying that is meant to be friendly and said most times in the hopes of making someone feel better. Geez, no wonder it's such a mean world out there now, when such a friendly, harmless saying can evoke such meanness in people. No wonder no one wants to try to be friendly anymore. Lighten up people. It's a harmless saying meant for the good to try to evoke one of the nicest things you can see without paying money-a smile :)!

For cranky casey: I'm not really sure what your post means. It's a little jumbled honestly....Do you mean that people who say "smile it's not that bad" are more mature and are trying to tell me something? I want you to explain this because it doesn't make much sense to me. And please, no one else answer for casey :) |
I've gotten that from an older guy at Walmart. It was pretty awkward. |
Lol, I can't know really. It's not something that happens in my country. However I do have people asking me "Why the face?" and I'll always reply, "Um, I was born like this, totally not my fault!" =D
|
Whenever people say that to me, I end up smiling anyways.
Of course....usually they say it with a big, goofy grin, so I can't help NOT smiling. |

And sorry about your snail in the picture. I hope he has a good afterlife, if you believe in that :) |
Ecuador. No english-speakers around, and if a stranger is talking to you either he's a kind woman telling you your sandal fell from your diabetic feet a block ago, or if it's an adult male he's robbing you @[email protected]
Aww thank you D: If there is, then I hope he gets a better life, and actually gets to live more than just his childhood :) |
In my country, smiling is the same as breathing,
<ahahaha>..same goes for karaoke!! |
He may have thought you were mad or upset or something and thought he would try to make you smile or something. People are strange creatures most of the time

I know exactly what you guys mean!
At my school, everyone asks me what wrong, and it's Study Hall... what the hell is there to do in study hall but think?! Im like, "Nothing, Im just lost in though" you know, when you stare off into nothingness? Yeah, EVERYTIME someone asks me what's wrong, it annoys me. I understand when Im like, ACTUALLY upset, and Im ACTUALLY showing the sadness, but not when Im just sitting there. Jesus tits. Oh, and I hate it when Im having an amazing day, and Im like, the happiest I've been in a year, and someone tells me I look really sad. Im like, "Wow, thanks bitch!" ( but of course I don't say that! :"D ) |
