Different names come from different parts of the world and mean different things. Whats your favorite names?
Tell us about them?
Where are they from?
What do they mean?
DO they run in your family?
My favorite names are Alana, Shana, Talitha, Chad, Sean and Dante.
Quote:
Alana-The meaning of this name is not known for certain. It was used in Brittany at least as early as the 6th century, and it possibly means either "little rock" or "handsome" in Breton. Alternatively, it may derive from the tribal name of the Alans, an Iranian people who migrated into Europe in the 4th and 5th centuries.
its english scottish and brittish.
|
Shana is the girl version of shane and a variant of shannon.
Talitha means maiden and its a name I got from the bible and a book I read called the unexpected dragon.
Quote:
|
Chad-From the Old English name Ceadda which is of unknown meaning, possibly based on Welsh cad "battle". This was the name of a 7th-century English saint. Borne primarily by Catholics, it was a rare name until the 1960s when it started to become more common amongst the general population. This is also the name of a country in Africa, though it originates from a different source.
|
Sean- Its an irish form of john
Dante-Medieval short form of DURANTE and its itailian.

My name -Marion- Is Hebrew for 'Bitter sea', although i have read somewhere that it also means 'Wished for child', in what language i'm not sure.
I guess you could say i inherited it from my dads mother, who died a long time before i was born.
Names seem to get passed along in my family. My dad, was named after his own father, my brother has my dads middle name/his own uncles for his first name (Edward), and our uncles middle name(James) for his middle name too.
My niece was named after my other grandmother, on my moms side.
My favourite names i've looked up most of at some point, although i can't remember off the top of my head what they mean. I have a lot of favourite names though so i'll leave it at that.

My last name has a partial pointless meaning. It's Norwegian for 'On Top Of the Hill.' lol
And my real name is Kaysha. In Africa there is a tree called a 'Akeisha' So. Over all my name means Tree ontop of a hill.
My favorite names, my own Kaysha, Koa. Then, Kaden, Kada(girls' version of Kaden). ... I have a 'K' fetish. lol
I blame my mom for my fetish. She named all her kids with a C... then there's me. a 'K'.

I'm very fond of the name Khalil. I looked it up just now and apparently it means 'friend' in Arabic. It does run in my (Lebanese) family - there's at least one Khalil every generation, I'd say. In my family at least it always gets used like it's the Arabic version of Charlie. Like, guys named Khalil will also get called Charlie, and I had an ancestor named Khalil who gets stories about him told a lot, and he's sometimes referred to as Little Charlie.
The non-Lebanese side of my family is Irish, so I have a Gaelic first name. I like Gaelic names. Some of my favorites (none of which are my first name, because I'm paranoid about stalkers) are Moira (version of Mary), Tighe or Tadgh (pretty sure it means poet), and Killian (I've heard it defined both as 'church' and as 'trouble', which amuses me immensely).
On the internets I usually go by Marion, which is a diminutive of Mary. I think it suits me almost as much as my real name. I like it both because of the way it sounds and because (despite not really being religious) I'm very fond of the biblical characters of both Mary Magdalene and the virgin Mary.

Hrm, well my first name is Mariah [shhhhh don't tell anyone!] which means "Uncertain, bitter" which is a bit true about me. My last name is Crazy Bull, but I don't really know what it means; just from a siuox tribe. [please dun stalk me ;A;]
My favorite boy names [my kids are gonna hate me >D]:
Kingsley: "From The King's Field"
Elliot: "The Lord Is My God"
Sebastian: "Venerable"
Wesley: "From The West Field"
[if I have little Japanese babies like I want....:]
Kyoko: "Mirror" [I know it's a girls name, but I like it better for a boy]
Enzan: "Flame Mountain"
My kids are gonna hate me, but I don't care as long as they wait until after they're 18 to change their names. xD

What are your favorite names for boys? Unique names for boys...I'm trying to name a character and I'm curious.
So what are your favorite names for boys and girls and why? =)
I love Jayden and James to get things going. Jayden and James are the names my best friend and I use when we've written little things to each other, and it's special to the both of us. =)

I like Jayden >w< I'm a huge fan on names that start with "J." If I have a son, I want to name him either Jude or Jaeger.
However, I don't really have a favorite name - just names I like because they're the names of my characters :]
Like Othello, Lucky, Ryan, and Mike <3

I like the names Caligula and Lucifer. I just like the sound of the names...though I know better enough not to name my kids that. Pets are not prone from getting called these, though. Caligula means "little boots" and Lucifer means "light bearer."
My boyfriend loves Norse names and he told me if he ever had kids he would name them after gods from Norse mythology. Hee hee
