I carve them! Great old fashioned spooky Jack-o-lantern faces! I actually don't like those 3D pumpkin carving things of those downloaded patterns of cats and old houses. Those just feel silly, nothing like a classic scary face glowing on the night.
A lot of people around where I live paint up pumpkins and make pumpkin people. Huge attraction. Same with the Pumpkin Regatta, where people take giant pumpkins and hallow them out, to make boats to race across the river. It's all really fun. October is a great time to live in the Nova Scotian Valley. |
I've never smashed a pumpkin but it sounds fun! Of course I would never do it to a little kids pumpkin, probably just my own. I've carved them before but I'm soooo bad at it! xD But it's still fun. And we only paint pumpkins when we're too lazy to clean up the mess from carving.

smash them!!!! its fun sliding on the rine down a hill. I found that out in middle school.
|
I have much memories of pumpkin-related activities... I remember painting them once years ago at some mini-fall-fair-thing, then carving once years after, and they both turned out terribly, haha. I don't remember if we scooped out the fresh pumpkin seeds and baked them, but probably since I remember that uhm... being done...
If I had to choose now I'd probably paint them. Carving is hard and smashing... sounds like a mess. D= |
I let the guys in the house handle the carving of the pumpkins. All I ask is that they make sure to not throw out anything that's scooped out, because that's where the fun begins for me.
Word to the wise for anyone else who enjoys cooking: pumpkin cheesecake made with fresh pumpkin is amazing. |
I like to Clean them out to make Jack o Lanterns & Also to make pies from the insides. My carvings never come out great though. They end up looking retarded. LOL:P

NUMMY YUMMY PUMPKINS!!!!
Pumpkins are the best gourds in the world! <3 |
My family usually carves a pumpkin every year, and I carved my first one all by myself this year. My housemates and I named it Hubert Humphrey Pumpkin-San. I actually broke his teeth when I was carving it on accident, so I had to snap a bobby pin in half and use it to hold the scary teeth together. XD I wouldn't have carved one this year, but I watched the movie Trick'r'treat with my mom before she deployed and it spurred me to have a jack-o-lantern ready this Halloween in case any angry ghosts came calling. XD I will also definitely be passing out candy.
All I know is that if anyone smashes my jack-o-lantern this Halloween, I will smash their face. |
Man, Pumpkin smashers are so rude! Would you like it if you were sitting on a porch happily watching tiny trick or treaters wander by and asking in cute little voices for candy, and then suddenly WHAM! No more you. No fun! People can be so lame. I mean, what is the fun in smashing a pumpkin that belongs to someone else? If you smash your own pumpkin fine!
Geeze.. |

I like to paint them the most.
Carving takes too much work, and smashing has clean up. :/ But painting is fun! Yay for painting!!! |
Me and my friends carve a pumpkin, light it on fire from the inside, then throw it off of something high smashing it. I missed it last year and this year we are using a gord instead of a pumpkin but I'm looking forward to it.
|
We have painted ours for the pumpkin show at the elementary school. I don't plan to carve it. I might plant it this year and grow some for next year. That would be interesting.

How about cooking them and eating them?

I usually prefer to carve them...though painting is easier to me.

Well.. We buy the pumpkin then we usually paint it with washable paint. This will be like early october sometime. When It gets closer to halloween time then we wash the paint off and carve the pumpkin. Then a couple weeks after halloween and the once scary, nicely carved pumpkin has little gray hairs growin on it... Then we go smash it.. Then clean up the mess later in the day. XD
|
Carve! :D
|
To be honest, I haven't done anything with pumpkins (asides from eating them) for quite a while. BUT, back in my early elementary days, my mom would carve the pumpkin and then place a candle inside. I don't think it was a very scary-looking pumpkin, but it was still fun to design it!
