I'm just curious about people's opinions as I know they'r going to be vary but...

As a girl, I feel like guys can get away with a lot more things.

For instance, two guys in my dorm were fighting with plastic swords and everyone was laughing, enjoying the two guys go at it. However, I feel that if two girls were conducting in this activity - everyone would view them as being "attention whores" and probably not find this as funny.

I feel like the same thing would have happened this time I was at a movie theater and the movie was late coming on. Two male friends from the audience got up on stage and started amusing the crowd with jokes and other stunts. I once again feel that if either a girl and a guy did this, or two girls - people would find the girl or girls to be either more annoying or just doing it for the attention.

So, just a random thought that I'd like opinions on.

I feel like they could get away with more things than just being attention whores. Though at my school I view all of them as attention whores. So...it doesn't matter to me. =/

I think there is a long standing tradition in almost every society that holds a man's speech over a woman's. I'm not a femenist, but I do believe that all of history shows the segregation of tasks between men and women. Public displays and speechs are a "man's" area whereas home matters such as raising the children fall under a "woman's" jurisdiction.

*blink*

Now give me cookie. :D

Okay, I think I can reward you with a cookie.

I know that in my anthropology class we'll be discussing gender roles in different socities - it's always interesting when there's a culture that actually regards a woman's role highly.

Men get away with sleeping with multiple girls. Those are players. Girls sleeping with mulitple boys are whores.
Women are supposed to act a certain way. Men, with their Y chromosme, don't need to evolve as much.

this was never the case in my high school. everyone in my class talked all the time. however, it was the boys who always got in trouble, not the girls. of course, i think it might have been cuz the boys were much louder than the girls. the girls were really quiet, so it was hard to hear them most of the time. the boys, you could probably hear them all the way down the halls.

Oh!!! I LOVE anthropology! It's my major... hehe <3

There is a culture in africa... the... "Kung!" people I think. Anyhow, the role of a woman is much higher in their culture. I had to read this book "Nisa: the life and words of a Kung! woman" and write a paper on it. It was really interesting. The book is actually not boring and I recomend it if you are into this sort of thing.

I think that one of the major reasons men get away with more things then women is because, even in this day and age, women are expected to be the major role models, the perfect lady who acts her age and does what she can to help others out and behaves herself. I've come across quite a few guys and girls who think I'm messed up because I won't get dressed up and put tons of make-up on just to go out to the store, I don't like shopping for the household and I'm a total slob. I'm messy but I know where everything is, but they think that because I'm a girl, I should be a neat freak. We've come a long way in the way women are veiwed, but we still have a lot farther to go and I don't think that day will ever truly come when all women are considered equal to all men. there will always be sexist jerks out there, just like there will always be racist ones.

I think it's opposite. I'm a gentle looking person, that gets followed through places because people are suspicious of me stealing or something. XD IDK.

Oh, I'm glad you addressed that whole make-up issue. I've never worn make-up - the only time I remember having it on was for dance recitals and award ceremonies... and my mom or sister had to put it on me because I don't know how to. I barely even wear chapstick because I just don't like how it feels. But now that I'm living in an all girl's dorm, I'm surrounded by girls who are always, always wearing make-up. Does it make me less of a girl because I choose not to wear and spend money on make-up?

@Violet: Oh, cool to know an anthropology major (I'm English but I of course enjoy most of what I read.)

@Xurxo: lol, so I don't get it - are you a guy or a girl because you're telling me you act like both xD

I want to insert my opinion here because I can. XD So just tune me out if you want. I wear make-up but not all the time. I chose to put make-up on when I want to feel particularly sexy or when I want to look especially nice. Aside from the health hazards created by wearing tons of makeup, often times it looks trashy on a woman. I think that make up should be viewed as an accessary such as a bracelet or a ring. It does not make you less of a woman because you chose not to wear it.

Ponta: Yeah, I know what you mean about that. Luckily, I hang out with dudes, and out of the eight people I share a place with, only two are female and I don't really hang out with them too much, they're kinda superficial and they think that because I act like a dude, wrestling with the guys around here, playing street sports and being perverted, that I'm flirting with the guys and trying to steal their boyfriends.

I have thought about wearing make-up on a special occasion -- like the days when I really feel like getting dressed up, but like I said... I still don't know how to put it on xD

@Vukavo: Aww, that sucks you have to put up with living with superficial girls... I know exactly what that's like... of course, all the guys at my college campus like that kind of girl. (Bah, why did I go to the jock & party school?)

If you don't mind spending a little money, go to the makeup counter at a department store such as Belk's or JCPenney's; the ladies there will actually put it on you and teach you how to apply it. It's really not hard at all. ^^

For me, it's not that I don't know how to put it on, I'm actually pretty good at it from constantly helping my mom and sisters out, but it's more the fact that it feels like I have a bunch of crap on my face, I lick my lips a lot so lipstick is outta the question, I break out easily with it and I feel as if the guys see what the makeup makes me look like instead of the actual me acne and all.

But on the other hand we women can get away with much more by bating our eyelashes and just being female. Most of the time if a guy said something thretening to another guy they would either fight or come girl, yet when a girl says something out of line most guys would just yell or hit a wall. Some guys hit girls but not most. Also if a guy tries to get out of trouble by flirting or acting innocent they have less of a chance of it working for them.

So works in different ways.

[E]

Btw the double negative in your title makes it read like Guys Do NOT get away with things.

Oh goodness, I removed it because I Knew it was confusing for people to get. I just test gender things and the way people react to them. O:

I like people to use male pronouns on me. xD

Edit: Oh, Just think of me as a feminine male. xD

You do realize that saying it that way, still can leave some to wonder if your a chick who just prefers being believed as a dude right? I used to do that on this one site cause I got more respect and people seemed to listen to me better and only stopped cause a few girls began asking me out XD

Well guys get away with certain other things, while girls get away with this things.

like I have always thought that I'd be a horrible nightmare boyfriend if I was a dude.
I don't call, I don't like romantic stuff very much, I am very aggressive on sexual stuff,
and if I was a guy I'd probably already be charged with sexual assaults.

just think of how many times have you crawled upon your boyfriend in a demading matter
practically ripping their clothes and being all like "do me now" and trying to force their hands
down when they try to stop you...? (well I have done that many times to my man >.> )

if that was someones boyfriend going on his not so willing girlfriend, that would be considered horrible, but me being female people consider that kind of things more as hot.
when I do that my man isn't in horror, he often laughs or gives in with pretty much the same passion.

What really irks me is that guys can get away with abuse. There are guys out there that can charm, twist words, etc. to authorities to make it seem that the woman pleading for help is a nutcase.

Oh my, it seems like I wasn't paying attention last night when typing my thread title. My bad.

Ah, as far as flirting goes - I think it really depends on the girl... it's just not always going to work.

However, I do find that being an emotional female does get you out of trouble. I think most males do not want to put up with a crying female so they try to find the easiest solution to please them and get away quickly.

@Xurxo: So I do believe you are a male, correct?

I am pretty sure guys can get away with a lot more. They are encouraged to have sex, unlike girls who are suppose to remain virgins..which makes you curious about who they're having sex with XD but anyway, they also can do a lot of different obnoxious things too and get away scot free. I actually did a debate thread thing like this ^^

I'm sorry, but I have to bring up the point that someone (forgotten the screen name sorry) said I'm not a feminist, however if you believe in equal rights or at least similar rights for both sexes then you are in fact a feminist. A feminist doesn't have to be lesbian, radical or even female and it bugs me that people take this view when they or you are saying the exact thing that feminists before them/you have already said. This isn't meant to alienate anyone, however it does bug me that this is the common perception on this matter and I find it disheartening if anything. Imagine if you tried to make say a firm allow women to wear trousers and not only skirts yet be branded a feminist and alienated in yourself by other women who themselves are feminists! What a silly fashion we have today.

Oh and on topic, I don't think I have ever thought of a girl telling jokes or play fighting as an attention whore but that might just be me and my upbringing. But at least here guys who sleep around are now called manwhores instead of "cool". lol.

I think it's even... I mean if a middle school boy was sitting in a library with his friends and they were getting excited over comic books, the librarian would tell them they were being rude and needed to respect the other patrons. I saw some girls that were just as loud and the librarian only looked over at them, but she didn't come over and ask them to stop. Vice versa, a few females in one of my classes were talking and the teacher said they needed to take their conversation outside, whereas some of the boys were talking in the corner and the teacher just continued with the lecture. It really depends on the situation, I think both sexes are harsher towards the other. The librarian was a female and the teacher was a male >>
