Im planning on getting dreads soon, four, in the back, but I still have to cut my hair short. You know, you can make dreads with your own hair, just tangle rat and twist, n dont clean it xD

It depends on how big you make your dreads.
Some people make very thick dreads while others make very thin ones.
I would start with three bags.

I was reading on a dread related site that you really do need to wash your hair or your head will start to reak. They suggest using a non-residue leaving shampoo.

I want dreads myself... I have to find someone to do it and make sure they don't try to twist my hair into it, because that apparently only works for black-people hair. o_o Mine just has to be done by brushing it into glorious nappiness. =D

No it can work on anyone's hair but once you go with real dreads it is a long time till you can do anything new with your hair. That is why i do Synthetic Dreads.
