Trans Fat
Okay get this, my brother's girlfriend wants to be a nurse, and is now learning. And ever since my bro started dating her, he's been warning us all about trans fat. If you eat foods with these things, that fat like...NEVER goes away. So he's been like, refusing to eat foods that contain trans fat. It's kinda annoying, he wasn't usually this picky before he dated his girlfriend. I guess she's telling him alot of things that we all should know about.
But I'm not posting this in a negative tone, i think it's best to stay away from much trans fat as you can. I've been checking the labels to make sure there's none. Also, find those fats readings and charts for certain fast food restaurants you most likely go to. My brother sent me McDonald's chart. I recently saw Wendy's chart, right next to the cashiers. xD Discuss: ~Your thoughts on trans fat ~Do you care or not care about eating foods with trans fat? ~Other experiences and such when keeping an eye out, watching out for trans fat. ~Tell some recipes or recommendations of healthy meals with no/less trans fat. (Most likely no trans fat please..xD ) |
I eat very little trans fats.
The fat builds up around your paricardium (Heart), and you can't get rid of it. The fat then becomes platelets and gets clogged in your heart. Then you die. I also don't eat red meat because I have bad genes for heart disease. |
I hatteeee trans fat~ It kills me that the cakes that are usually on sale at Kroger's have a bunch of trans fat.. D': /lol shot I'm actually on a diet, and it's been very hard for me to not eat anything without trans fat or anything like that, especially because recently we've been going out to eat, and my step-mom usually makes dinner for us, so I never really know if what I'm eating has a lot of carbs, trans fat, or just fat. Lol. |
I hear trans fats have no known nutritional value to humans. I kinda eat what I wanna eat when it comes to snacks but my mum always cooks healthy meals every day so I don't have a problem with that. At my school they sell loads of junk and I buy it because we can buy stuff with swipe cards ( it's really annoying, it doesn't feel like you're flushing money down the toilet DX) but I would never go out to the nearest corner shop to buy a chocolate bar or a packet of crisps because I don't find them appealing anymore. I I've never really paid much attention to it because I'm a young teen and at that age you don't really think about heart diease or diabetes or other problems you get when you're older. I need to get slimmer though so maybe I should stay away from trans fats.... |
Er...I just eat whatever. Though my mom makes mostly all the food I eat. Rice, vegetables and etc more to go with those. o.O; We barley get fast food and the only fast food I would ask for is Taco Bell but we mostly make it ourselves and Hamburger too. Though I don't really care for trans fats. I am not worried just yet...but maybe later on I will be but who knows. xD

I'm with Kanna. They taste good so I eat it. *shrugs* I don't expect to live past 30 with how I treat my body, but you know what it's my body.
I live by my family motto Quote:

T'is true. Excepting animal lard, what it comes down to is that it was a cheap way to make vegetable shortening and was pushed on the consumers without them asking for it. (Ala Crisco, etc.) Now it's just a matter of the consumers saying 'no' and the companies removing it from the products. Of course in the US, apparently we're not allowed to do things for themselves so in some cities there's been legislation against it. @Syranna, martinis and chocolate are health foods compared to trans fats. :P |
@ Guivre * I know, you kinda missed the point though. In the end, what does it matter what I look like, as long as I have no regrets. Thats how I live. Every day is my last, and I'm not going to let an opprotunity pass me by. Trans fats mean nothing to me. *giggles* I sprinkle low-sodium foods with salt. I gorge myself on red meat. I eat candy until I have a stomach ache. I'm 18 and I wont live forever ^.^

Ugh. I really need to watch what I eat. Everyone says I'm skinny, but I'm not! I hate my body. I dont even eat bad food. I haven't had any coke product in two years and I'm a health nut! I'm a runner and I compete in track and cross country. I'm just mad because I've gained some weight since I was hit by a car a month ago yesterday. Now I cant run and I can only walk, which doesnt burn nearly as many calories. It sucks!!
anyways, I hate trans fat! It's so bad for your heart it's scary. I really hate it when I go out to eat because I have absolutely no idea what I'm eating. |
I know about trans fat but I never remember to check if there's any trans fat in things before I eat them. I've never really eaten any junk food, though, so I doubt I've managed to ingest much trans fat.
I don't really have any desire to eat junk food. The worst things that I eat are probably chocolate and red meat, and even those I don't eat all that often. Honestly, I'd like to live a long time. There's more that you can do in 92 years (how long my grandfather lived) than you can in 30. |
Trans Fat...is a lot of bull crap!No one didn't care what they ate before. Why should we start caring now? It's a load of bull crap and I must say...I hate the government.
|
I don't make an effort to look out for any kind of fat. I try to eat well, but I'm not so insecure that I feel I have to monitor everything I eat. I'd rather spend time enjoying life then worrying about how I may die. :/ |
I try to avoid foods with a lot of fat, and food that contain tons of calories.
|
@Hollowsan-
It's not the government; it's science! The fat builds up around your heart until it clogs it and you die. Americans didn't have to worry about trans fats because you didn't have so many McDonalds. The obesity rate is going up, heart disease is going up as are fast food sales. In the recession, it doesn't stop. The government doesn't stop the adverts for fast food slop. However, it is still not doing much about health care, but those are privately owned. Anyway, trans fats will kill you. You can't get rid of that fat no matter what. |
i eat whatever taste good, but i also work out like crazy so i figure im ok. Plus if i take the time to look at the lable i know ill end up reading the ingredients and then i wouldn't ever eat anything and i'd end up sickly skinny. So im all for unhealthy food in moderation as long as you work it off. and so what if you can't work off trans fat, its unhealthy to be stick skinny anyways. XD
|
Wow, i just read like everyone's posts. I also what to add here: If you have any good and healthy recipes or recommendations for no/less trans fatty foods, then tell away!

...seriously dude..actually read what everyone else is saying here, they may save your life... |
My mom's a health freak, so she never let me eat anything with trans fat anyways :).
but i'm not stick-skinny either, i work out crazy. ______________ "If you don't go away, I'll kill you." |

yep, that motto of yours just about sums it up for me. just replace martini with Diet Coke and im good! i eat loads of junk food, i dont read labels... *shrug* it tastes good, so i eat it. i do admit, i feel bad that animals die so we can eat them, but it cant be helped, ya know? i hate reading labels. if i read on a label that there is fat of ANY kind in what im eating, my apetite vanishes, i cant eat anymore of it. thats cuz when i hear "fat" i think gooey disgusting stuff sucked from a cow or sommething. even if thats not really what they use, its an awful image! but, ifit tastes good, i'll eat it. and im a bottomless pit, i can eat a lot! looks like im dying at 30 too, syraannabelle! ;) |
@ ZeGuMmIBeaRQueEn* *high-5* looks like I'm not dyin' alone! ^.^ Same here with the label reading. It's either I ignore the label, or I just don't eat.
|
I'm also the type that just doesn't care about what I eat. There are people who can eat the worse stuff and live to a good age and the people who die young. If it's your time, it's your time and if food isn't the cause of death something else will be. Besides, my exercise science teacher was telling us how just because it says 0% trans fat doesn't mean it's completely true. Anything with the word hydrogenated in the ingredients has trans fat. If you spend all your time looking at ingredients, you'll never eat anything. Junk food and red meat all the way!
|
@Syraannabelle- *high 5* yup we wont be alone! yup pretty much. or i eat and THEN look at the label to see what i just ate. did you know theres FAT in goldfish crackers?! how is that even possible?! i read that on the back of a goldfish crackers packet after i polished 2 packets off. XD (i mean the little packs!)
my lunch is never healthy. instead of buying a lunch, i go to the snack bar thing and buy a chocolate chip cookie nearly the size of my head, 2 packs of goldfish crackers, and an IZZE (its like juice but fizzy) or something of the sort. XXDDD |
Meh I tend to avoid trans fats but I don't care much any more when I go out to eat (rarely) or I'm really drunk or something and want junk food
Regarding recipes and non-trans fat foods, pretty much anything you make yourself from scratch is not going to have trans fat. You can tell something has trans fat in it if you see the word "hydrogenated" in the ingredients list, ie. "partially hydrogenated vegetable oil" (even if the nutrition facts say 0g trans fat. If it has less than .5g of trans fat per serving, they can put 0). Some restaurants fry their food in oil with trans fat too. |
