Started mine when I was twelve.
Mom was at work.

And I had... my... I guess ex step-father and my... mom boyfriend at the house. I was getting ready to leave to go with my ex step-fathers house for the weekend when I realized that I bled all over my underwear. i knew what it was of course, but I was so embarrassed, I started to cry.

Then I had to go out there and tell them both. When I was in tears.

"I think I started my period DDDD;"
And they were both like... "Oh O.O Well... um... lets go call your mom."

That was how it was xD

They'll use their period/PMS'ing as an excuse all day, every day, for weeks, even when they're not on their period.

One of my friends loves to pull this particular trick--She'll snap at me, blame it on PMS'ing, then two weeks later, do the exact same thing. And she'll keep doing this. And no, she won't be on her period when she does this most of the time.
But what really gets me is that they expect everyone to be sorry for them during their time-of-the-month.

All women, excluding those on birth control/pregnant/menopausal, etc., etc., etc., go through this. I don't get off all scott-free, either. I have had cramps so bad that I literally could not breath from the pain.
I understand that women have different reactions and problems, but all women have gone through this, and they think they should deserve special treatment because of their pain.

Oh well, call me unsympathetic or misunderstanding, but that's how I feel about it.

God, I can understand your frustration, PMS is not mind control you can still control yourself. Although look whose talking? The vampire with major problems controlling her often short fused temper. But I have not gotten PMS irritability since I was a young teen new to it. Mostly today I just get minor cramps which I ease by having a snack and my appetite has a tendency to increase and sometimes decrease.

I was in sixth grade when I first got mine... so I was probably 11.
It was on a march 5th. We had this space tent thing at our school, where we went in this huge black tent, lay down, and looked at stars and stuff while this guy explained things about space and things to us. That's where I 'got' my period, though it was during the last hour of the day, so I didn't notice it until I used the bathroom once I got home.
I called my best friend right away, and it turned out she had noticed that she got her's when she got home that day as well!

Now I don't really get a period, just three very very light days (as in only noticeable when I wipe) once every two months. Yay birth control!

A nice, warm, soothing shower is the only thing that seems to help me if my cramps get that bad. Fortunately, I haven't had too many of them lately.

Same, but even when I do it's not that bad like i have to curl up in a fetal position and moan the day away. It's very mild. I guess I take after my grandmother because she once told me she had never had problems with her period either.

Covet 01-20-2010 05:16 PM

I got mine when I was 14. I was in school and my best friend had an emergency pad in her locker in case she or I started our periods. She was waiting for me outside the stall door and I said hey Ericka , psst, and she put her ear near the crack in the door and I said is anyone listening and she said no and I said can you get me your pad I just started my period! and she put her hand over her mouth and was like :O and got all excited for me. then the rest of the day went normal. i told my mom and she got all mystified and said "now you're able to have babies....." and got all sentimental about me growing up. I told my dad and he said "uh huh that's nice dear keep it up." and my brother made this annoying face like it was bad to talk about your period and he felt so awkward..

also note that I didn't drink much milk at all unless it was in a milkshake or something.. but usually I stayed far away from milk cause I hate how it tastes by itsself x)

Covet YAYZ! I'm not a freakazoid! I thought I was the only one here that started at over 12 hehe. And your mom sounds kind of like mine with her reaction lol.

Covet 01-22-2010 01:48 PM

Bella :D yay I know I was reading all these and I wondered if I was alone too, lol. Thats cool about your mom's reaction. Some of my friends moms got all weird about it!

Telendil Thaliel'dhar 01-22-2010 08:18 PM

I was thirteen when I had my first. I was lucky in a way, Mom had me prepare for it.

It seemed odd to me, because in other ways I had developed early. ::shrugs:: Who knows?

neko xoxox 01-22-2010 11:27 PM

i had mine when i was 11 in the sixth grade, right around Christmas, WORST. CHRISTMAS. GIFT. EVER. D: yea.. i went to the bathroom and realised it like right away so i was calling mom (the annoying way "moooooommmmm!" XD) and she was talking on the phone so she didnt come upstairs and when she finally did come up she threw a roll of toilet paper at me and i said "no, I AM ON MY PERIOD >:(" not realising she was still on the phone ._.

Manga_Animefan1223 01-31-2010 11:09 PM

It's wierd how some parents have no idea what to do and others are blabbing into the phone and text-messaging to all the people they ever knew and tells them about it. Like my dad, for instance. There were no more tampons and my brother was driving the car, and only my dad was home because my mom was doing that being a boss thing at work (which is really anoyying because at home she acts like it's her workplace). So I called my buddy to pick me up, but I dialed the wrong number and I actually called my dad and he knew about the missing tampons AND pads thing and he was twitching as we were buying them.

Chickie Nuggs 02-01-2010 12:35 AM

I remember when I started mine for the first time. I thought I was dying...
I always laugh when I think back to it, lol.

Fallacious 02-01-2010 05:35 AM

I got mine for the first time when I was about 12. It was really light and I didn't realize it... my mother did. I was sitting on the railing of our front porch in the summer, eating yogurt (It's weird that I even remember what flavor it is) and my mom noticed a spot on my shorts. I was really embarrassed.

Now I'm older and have poly-cystic ovarian syndrome so my periods can be really strange if I go off birth control... and they're sometimes strange even on BC.
>.<

Sakubo 02-01-2010 03:40 PM

I've had my period already I started it when I was about 9 or 10 I'm not really sure and it wasn't really embarrasing I was lucky because I was wearing black pants and my school uniform was black at first sight when seeing it I though I had poo'ed on myself but my period is pretty screwed up I missed it a couple of times and sometimes even had it for a day extra.

x_cannibalisticcows 02-02-2010 02:35 AM

I remember my first one....
I was going to PEI to visit my biological father for the first time. Along with a billion aunts and uncles. So, on the way there, we stopped at a grochery store to pick something up - and I had to pee really bad as well. So, I went into the bathroom did my thing - walked up to my mom and whispered in her ear. She didn't believe me at first.

So, we eventually bought some pads, and she went on to tell all my fathers side of the family who I was meeting for the first time that I had also met another aunt....Aunt Flow.... Yeah. I wanted to die.

I was about eleven at the time. :]

Manga_Animefan1223 02-02-2010 03:28 AM

I really hate it when you think a period is over, but it's not. Sometimes, my periods get irregular, but the doctor just says it's because I'm too skinny for my height and age. (trust me, I look like a walking stick in designer clothing.) Okay, so one day, I thought my period was over, so I got really happy. When I got to school at I think in Math, I started bleeding, but thank god I was wearing black skinny jeans.

Briatha 02-03-2010 04:09 AM

I was 11 when I got my first period, and I got it while I was camping! I had nothing but toilet paper to stop it from staining! Thankfully, my mom came with reserves. I was so excited about it then, but now it just sucks. Goodness, that was 10 years ago already! How crazy is that.

Nissa 02-03-2010 04:40 AM

I started mine the summer before 5th grade, so I was about 10ish. Before I had my first child I had double you over cramps that really made periods horrible. They went away after I had him and 5 years later I had my second child and then had menorrhagia, which means I bleed like a stuck pig and it lasts over a week. I wish I could go back to the between baby periods. X(

Antique Doll 02-03-2010 05:06 AM

I was 13 when I started mine. OxO I was lucky enough not to start mine in public but I was in bed, sleeping. When I woke up I started freaking out because there was blood everywhere. I ended up cleaning everything up, changed my blankets and such but my mom questioned me. Why I had been washing my sheets and blankets. I tried to keep it from her but, it's kinda hard to hide it when your grey PJs are stained because I had no idea to get out such things. It was still a horrible experience for me. Every time I had it, I kept it from my mom. Instead I just took my sister's panty liners and pads for the longest time until I started using tampons, which I think are heaven sent. I never really got cramps or anything buy my upper back would feel like it was about to catch flame and I got a few pains in my lower back from time to time. I rarely ever get cramps, I only recall it once and I thought I was about to die. My mother was showing no sympathy, trying to make me pack to move. Had to get some Midol. And I get super mean as well.

Ewinxr 02-03-2010 05:24 AM

Yes i started mine on my 12 birthday exactly, XD it was really embarresing for me cause i had just woken up and i was wearing a large shirt and no pants (just inderwear) and i sat down at my table and when i got up there was a huge blood puddle, and worst of all, my dad was right there ( im not very open with my dad, he makes fun of me cause of my large chest) so it was really embarresing for me,i almost fainted from seeing the blood too.

sagecat 02-03-2010 07:41 AM

I started mine 7 years ago, it is really embarrassing, until you get caught in a public situation with something that leaks o_O Then it can be pretty embarrassing (luckily it doesn't happen often). Mine causes me to have violent cramps and I almost died once because it made me vomit once every ten minutes for 7 hours (during that time my mother tried to convince me to go to the ER and I told her I would rather dying at home, then die in the hospital waiting room. And I was serious o.O I ended up passing out from fatigue and that apparently fixed the problem (go figure)) Other than that it isn't much of a bother. I don't hate my period, I know it is a natural part of life and I respect it.
Edit: I make my boyfriend go buy me pads XD He is getting used to it. I hope we get to have a daughter, it would be so cute.

Jewgasmic Kinkfest 02-05-2010 07:14 AM

The first time I got it wasn't so embarrassing. I was just sitting at home, and I went to the bathroom and noticed a tiny smudge of blood in my panties. So I called my mom in and showed her. xD I was...11, I think?
There was one time, though, in 7th grade, which was shortly after I started it, and so it was still pretty irregular, that I was sitting in the common area with some friends after lunch, and one of my friends pulled me aside and asked if I knew I had started my period. Turns out that they had all been sitting there watching as I sat cross-legged with a giant stain in the crotch of my khakis. .____.
Most of the time, my cramps are pretty bad. And considering today's my first day for this cycle... Yeah, it's been an AWESOME day. My back huuuuurts. Y_____Y

Shoplifter 02-05-2010 08:14 AM

Yes, it was kind of embarrassing. Nothing more frightning then waking up to blood all over your junk 'cause some chick didn't tell you they were on the rag. =/

Pyscosusie 02-05-2010 10:54 AM

Jauni 02-05-2010 08:20 PM

Wow, people have some interesting stories. From what I can recall, I believe I started mine when I was in the 7th or 8th grade... Somewhere around there. IAt the time, I already knew what a period was because I had Sex Ed in the 4th grade (yeah I know, weird...) and I also had a friend who already started her period when I first met her, which was around my 5th grade year I believe. Well, I remember feeling something leaking in that area and I went to check it out... Turns out I started. Irritated and hurting, I went to go tell my mom and she just kinda looked at me for a moment before telling me that I was too young but go jump down the stairs. Yeah, jump down the stairs... Apparently it was suppose to hep with the pain so I did it a few times. It didn't and my dad came home and gave me some funny looks...

Gotta love those Filipino home remedies.
