Okay, so apparently in gym we are in the basketball unit. The problem is our gym teacher[s] want us to do a certain assignment for us to do a basketball/dance routine. They expect something like High School Musical and that load of bull. =_=

What kind of a assignment is this for GYM?!?!

Don't you find this a bit cheesy for a gym class to do?

Am I over reacting? xD

Let's discuss now. :]

It's odd you're doing that during a basketball unit, but it's not crazy at all.
In all of my gym classes, excluding my Freshman year, we were expected to learn some style of dance, or at least participate in a small unit of dance.
Dancing can burn lots of calories and can be really fun at the same time.

The teacher is most likely just trying to break the routine and let you do something creative and fun.

It's like when one of my gym teachers gave us a yoga unit, and when another teacher gave us a gymnastics unit. They weren't normal gym units, but they were different, and allowed us to try new things.

Sorry Slide, but that's nothing. At my elementary school, when you were in fourth grade you got to have this Renaissance Fair type banquet in the spring. But the sacrifice our gym teacher taught us this folk dance that we had to do during the banquet. It was awful. We could have been doing obstacle courses or something fun but nope. In stead we had to dance. With fourth grade boys. EEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!

Sounds fun to me I am not a High School Musical fan, but I would love to do that. We did ballroom dance in gym when I was a junior in high school. But I know the feeling. We did juggling after that and she required us to sew our own three beanbags to juggle. REQUIRED, buying them was not allowed. I remember being really pissed off that we were required to sew in GYM! And I ended up doing an even crappier job than the crappy natural sewing skills I have. They came apart so I ended up using McDonald's Beenie Babies lol.

Yours makes a lot more sense than sewing beanbags. ><

You're right, weird. My PE teacher made us run a mile and do twenty push-ups and sit-ups. The normal repetition. He was such a douche to the slow kids. I remember... he was an ex-marine.

One day this girl dropped from over-exerting herself. Turns out she had ashma and a heart condition. The teacher was fired. Good riddance.

That's not really so out of the norm, though.
Wrestlers, basketball players, volleyball players--that's their basic warm-up almost.
If he pushed everyone so severely, then that may be a little harsh, but that's not near so bad as what I had to endure in 8th grade volleyball practice.
Granted someone with asthma and a heart condition shouldn't be pushed so hard, but everyone else who is at least somewhat physically fit should be able to do that without too severe of an issue.

That reminds me of one time in the eighth grade; my guy friend and I were in gym together and it was a run day which meant laps around the track. We were the last two finished him dragging me along because he hated watching me walk it.

The teacher told us it was unacceptable how long we took to finish it and was not fond of us holding hands because of his dragging me. He tried to tell her that he had asthma that was acting up but she was not accepting that not matter how hard he tried to insist and explain. I of course had no excuse except that I am a poor runner; still am.

It was surprising because overall she was a great teacher. My best friend had also had her at a different time and we both love her.

Maybe its a new thing? I dunno, it's been ages since I had gym. I don't remeber doing anything like that. We played baseball, basketball. dodgeball, football and all those types of sports as well as learning basic weight training and stuff like that. |3

I'm not going to lie, that actually sounds really fun, and it beats the hell out of running for two minutes then standing around like an idiot for an hour playing some hackneyed kickball game every day from October to May because no one was motivated to actually do anything.

...I'm not bitter what are you talking about?

Dude, I also would be piss too. Who would want to do something like HSM to do some stupid dance routine and stuff. I wouldn't even dress out even though I don't...but you shouldn't. Though I dislike gym anyways. So anything that has to do with gym I stay out of. No dress out or WHATEVER. xD Even if the punishment is stupid. Stand in the corner and don't look at anyone else but the corner. I mean, in my house I do nothing but look at the corner. D: Yea, great punishment...EVER. -.-;

Argh XP Back in high school we had to do a dance routine at some point too. This was BEFORE HSM came out. DX It was hell. But both guys and girls had to do it so at least everyone suffered the torment

It does sound silly, but I think it's a very good thing for that type of class. Most classes I'm sure have you sitting down with your back bent over. This sounds like a very good attempt to introduce new things to kids and help keep them active. It also may not be as pressuring as some type of sports activity. I was deathly afraid of sports activities in high school (in fact, I still am to an extent) but if we were told to dance around and we all looked silly I think I would enjoy that more.
This type of activity is also good for coordination and rhythm.
