I understand what you're saying, and I'm very sorry. I'll try to tell my friends about it that always have the cutest outfits.
My grandmother always buys me clothes that are too big for me ( makes me wonder if she thinks I'm fat D: ) and I always end up taking the clothes back to the store and just finding the same thing a different size. That or I give it to my mom. xd |
Sadly, it may not always be a case of "not affording" the outfit. I know that I have heard from others, though I never would do it myself, that some people will buy an expensive outfit for a special event with the full intent of wearing it only for that one occasion, and then abusing the store's return policy, so as to avoid having to spend any money at all. It's not that such people cannot afford the items they're buying, so much as that they don't want to pay.
I have to agree with what some others have said, though. Your company's management sounds to be fairly irresponsible. It may take time, but if they continue cutting their expenses to make up for their own faulty methods of predicting sales, it will eventually come back to bite them in their nether regions. They need to start paying more attention to where their money is actually going out from, and stop blaming their too-open return policy on the employees not being able to "sell it" well enough. It may be time for your managers to start implementing stricter rules on what items can be returned, and why. Or maybe they should do what Wal*Mart does on some returns, and only offer returns for in-store credit. |
If I buy something I can't afford, as long as it fits (or I know someone who it fits) I keep it. It's not the store's fault I can't keep track of my money.

that fails i'm sorry i apologize for those idiots because thats what my sister does....

Every workplace has their annoying ticks with customers.
I work at a superstore, and at least you don't have to encounter crotchety old biddies with fifty coupons and food stamps who bitch if one of their coupons doesn't work or they didn't get the right stuff. Or if someone didn't bring money, or forgot to check their food stamp amount, and I wind up voiding the entire order after I bagged it... |
I agree, don't buy stuff you can't keep. Sheesh.
Or better yet... learn how to sew. -.- I happen to browse thriftstores from time to time. Sometimes, I just can't find what I like in stores that carry the current trends. |
OMG D:
That sucks! I never thought about that when I return things. I don't know why it seems to be a part of human nature to spend more than they earn. How stupid! |

I think you'd love my mom even more though. She will buy me hundreds of dollars worth of clothes... a even though there's a lot of it I'd never wear in my life, I never bother returning it. How's that for a sale? ;) |
I have to agree with the people promoting thrift stores. When I can't afford new, that's where I go to. I've always found them to be acceptable sources of clothing. Besides, at a thrift store you may discover some item of clothing you wouldn't normally consider at a price that gets you to try it and so discover a whole new style. I never really thought much of vests until I found them for dirt cheap at the Lighthouse (local thrift store run by the mission). Now they're one of my favorite things to add to an outfit.
I also like stores like Ross, that sell factory seconds (items turned down for regular stores due to minor, barely noticeable defects). You can find some great things there for a lot less. Like the coarse silk (its very durable) shirt I found years ago. That was one of my favorite shirts for a long time. In fact, a lot of my favorite clothes come from bargain stores. Once you start shopping for good deals, you realize you don't have to sacrifice quality at all...and that's when you can save up the money to splurge on those hundred-some-odd dollar purchases and actually keep what you buy. |
I notice a LOT of people buy shit, wear it once, then return it. o_O
|
Thrift stores are fun (:
I think people are just very materialistic in general and like the feeling of owning stuff...then they remember that they can't afford it! |
I noticed that too when I was in retail. Some idiots would wear that outfit that night to a club or something and then return it the next afternoon. Bleh. They would always have the same excuses as they told you, but if they were true why did half the clothes always come back with odd stains or with the smell of smoke and alcohol!?
In all honesty, I have no clue why they do. If you know you're just going to have to return it, or you might not have enough money for rent(!) then why? Some people are just stupid like that. Oh, and Thrift Stores FTW! |
i'm guilty of doing this.
hehe. not quite on that level though. and not at boutiques. just at places like target. i'll buy things that are necessary to my survival and then throw in a couple shirts or something. only to get home and realize, shit i forgot something and have to return my shirt. /d'oh. |
LMFAO. I'll be sure to remember that when I go shopping next time. I always try on the clothes first though, so it's all gooddd.
|
I've found some the THE coolest hats, jewelry, and shoes at thrift stores. Brand name stuff in good condition too, and these places aren't creepy. The Salvation Army is the greatest.
