The internet is silly. =p

So much crap goes on in forums and all sorts of bizarre fights break out. Not just forums, actually, but just about anywhere on the internet where someone is allowed to voice their opinion.
It's just like one big drama novel (Except it has extremely poor editing and lacks a plot.)! ^^;
This is just a random thought that occurred to me today. I'm sure some of you are already well aware of this, however I couldn't help posting my own thoughts on the matter.
It's odd to me because no matter how completely absurd I find the argument it's always so entertaining to watch!!! But I guess that's what drama is all about.

Personally I like to avoid any drama on the internet, but that's just me.

So what about all of you?
When you see drama going on in forums, or YouTube or wherever you like to hang out online, how do you react?

Do you sit back and enjoy the poorly edited show, like myself?

Or maybe you enjoy diving head first into a big, steaming online pile of **** and see what you can come up with? ^^;

JennaDoll 02-26-2010 06:46 AM

It really depends. If it's a debate about a topic I am interested in, I'll hang around and see how it goes.
If it's just pointless banter, I'll leave.
I only give input if I have something worth saying.

silenttiger43 02-26-2010 06:50 AM

I find it horrendously hilarious and ironic that in order to even discuss this you have to be on the internet. Personally, I enjoy a good debate. Debates help you hone your skills for real life situations and give you some practice in advice giving and wording things just right. Some people out there get offended really easily and the only way to say what mean in a way they won't misinterpret, is to practice.

Also, I enjoy a healthy argument, even if it's with my friends. Yeah, that sounds weird but it makes me happy to know that I still have a chance to work things out instead of having things end over some stupid misunderstanding. People who just cut off arguments piss me off.

Shiruvya 02-26-2010 08:07 AM

It totally depends for me. x. x
I don't like to watch drama really, and I don't like to upset people.
I'd only comment if someone were being ignorant about something.

Huffie 02-26-2010 11:53 AM

Usually no, because they're almost always so completely obstinant and arrogant it physically pains me to see what they're saying. I used to get all fired up and try telling them what's what, but it's so wearying, esepcially since they mostly won't listen to what you're saying anyway, it's a waste of effort. :(

Its very difficult sometime to have a civil discussion when the other person's convinced it's a 'debate' (which you honestly can't hold on the internet anyway), and that they are completely infallible. And a lot of people don't know the difference between making a point and being exceedingly rude, apparantly. That doesn't help.

"Hold on, man. I'll go to bed after I tell this person how wrong they are."
Trust me, I've said this more than enough times in my life. Debating is just something that we need to do. I've been an active internet user since I was twelve, so I made more than enough friends. But these friends can break into fights over simple little things, and that drive me nuts. We're all different and some people just don't get that, do they?

Anyways, to another point: I've been the victim to cyberbullying, but I've caused a bit of drama myself, so I have no room to talk. Sometimes it is fun, but it's just something we do as humans and we know it's wrong. It's easy to yell or hurt people over the web because theres really nothing the other person can do back. I might not be strong, but being smart and knowing people is helpful here.

Nissa 02-26-2010 02:56 PM

I loathe drama and back away from it as quickly as possible. Doesn't matter if it's in real life or online. I never could stomach the overly dramatic. :P

The Real Nikki 02-26-2010 03:06 PM

I know what you mean, Nissa.

My ex-bestfriend was one of those dramatic people. She's an ex now because she didn't like me hanging out with my boyfriend and his friends because "I was sleeping with them all" or something like that. I mean, its so arrgggg. y'know?

Satsuki Ariyoshi 02-26-2010 03:34 PM

It depends on what kinda drama it is. If its advanced drama, I try to avoid it. If Im included in the drama I tend to break down alot or flip. If the drama inolves one of my friends I flip on the person who started the drama. Which Im usually always involved as well :/

You said it sister! I can tell just by this that you are a very intelligent person. People like you give me hope for the future of mankind. I whole heartedly agree with what you're saying and give you lots of internet hugs.

The Real Nikki 02-26-2010 04:15 PM

@silenttiger43:
haha. Well, thanks. ^^ I was just saying what I thought.

Windi 02-26-2010 04:29 PM

Well it depends on the issue -- if It's something that I know I can quell (probably because of some stupid argument)~
I'll dive it!
--
and pull out if it gets outta hand o-o. .

kollusim 02-27-2010 01:14 AM

If it's a wild argument with good points all round, I don't really mind watching. but if there's any immaturity, I'll pretty much ignore it and find something better to do.

I'm rather glad that most if not all people here (that I've seen so far) are sensible in their debates and take/give criticism gracefully. but nowhere is perfect, of course.

Liquid Diamond 02-27-2010 01:35 AM

I can't stay away from Drama, whether it's on TV/reality shows/VH1 or it's on the internet.
It's a spectator's sport, but it's not fun to be involved in unless you win.

As one of my favourite Video Game villans once said:
"You don't need to get your hands bloody to win wars. Sometimes, a little trickery goes a long way"

(20 gold for anyone who can guess who that is) :P

minifan_75_peaceout 02-27-2010 02:09 AM

I personally like the net =D
Sites like these are pretty epic (I joined like 20 mins ago...)
But yeah there is a lot of ridiculous arguments. Like people who spell like :ha1 ma1 n4m3 i$ m!n!f4n. And then theres those people who tell them off. Fights like THOSE are annoying. Can't people just let other people type how they want?

No, because I don't feel like going through all those stupid numbers and that butchered spelling for 10 minutes to figure out what you're trying to say. Type a little more intellectually, or you're not worth talking to. (Not you, YOU minifan.. I meant "you" as a generalized thing ^^)

But I do just that. If people type horribly like you just demonstrated, I just ignore them. I have to agree that fights like that aren't worth it. It's not like they're gonna change, so why bother, you know? :P

Teh Toaster Basher 02-27-2010 03:45 AM

I hate drama in real life, but I love it online! No one takes it seriously, and it gets so hilarious sometimes. Trolling a thread, or flaming a noob, it's quite entertaining. The interwebs is silly, and that's why I enjoy it.

If you take the interwebs seriously, then you shouldn't be going on websites. That's just my opinion, though.

Lucca_Kitazari 02-27-2010 02:51 PM

I tend to get overwhelmed and cower when there is to much drama or just when i feel to overwhelmed with talking. I do this~ *hides* ^^;

YumikoYoshihana 02-27-2010 03:37 PM

I love internet drama! Why do you think i'm always on the debate forum? xDDD

Although, if an argument is below my basic threshold of acceptable stupidity, i will remove myself from the situation post haste.

But mostly i just like arguing, and arguing intelligently. It's a learning process, but it's fun! And on sites like this you get rewarded too ^_^

You officially rock my sock, the left one to be exact, I think the right one is plotting to kill me. However I'm sure I can work things out in a lovely little debate with it. :P

Okay, insanity aside I love your attitude. Intelligent arguments or debating is what makes the world a good place to live. Really hearing all sides of an argument and coming to either a consensus or agreeing to disagree creates an understanding society and helps to eliminate prejudice.

Go you!

Amika66 02-27-2010 06:03 PM

i uhm tend to just go away if people get too hysterical. but i love going crazy myself. lol ahah
X

lightkanna 02-27-2010 06:14 PM

If it's something that I truly care about then yeah...I'll dive right ahead into it. Though I don't really go into fights much. It's just stupid and I just don't look at comments. xD I rather have people not hating me or not knowing who I am and hate me because I am an awesome person IRL. You know what I mean? xD

Drama sucks :/
But it's always so much fun to hear an Atheist fight back against my Religion teach- WHO used to be a bouncer at clubs AND on the weekend he works for "Brinks" people who transfer money from one bank to another in armoured trucks who hole 24calibers and bullet proof vents. Aaah. It's awesome - HE’S AWESOME!
No matter what, he's just too good.
Like how Mormons and Jehovah purposely target Catholics because they don’t know anything about their religion - which is true I'm one :P - but when they go argue with my teacher, they walk away. mwahahahah

Something harmless like religion debates are not bad. But when debates go on like full out WARS - that's just too much for the internet, I think. People just can't go pointing fingers, telling everyone that their wrong.

Except the cult that believes the world is flat- Sorry but weee beee rouuunndd :) - Their so wrong lmao.
When something can be proven by fact, yes it's right. But also having beliefs and ideas are not always to be pointed at and called wrong.

I think people need to understand that science is what it is and having beliefs is right too.

I find this debate always entertaining :)
But it's wrong when someone KNOWS their wrong and starts to criticise the person and not the debate's subject. ughh
