Adventurers!
Lame title...anyhooooo
I was just wondering who out there in the Menewsha community felt the call of the wild. To survive in nature, to fly, to breathe underwater, to float and glide across the water, to travel down some of nature's wildest routes, or climb up them, even. If you do, please share you experiences. If you haven't yet, feel free to talk about what you'd like to do or what you wouldn't like and why(not). Currently, I'm enrolled in a SCUBA class. Hopefully I pass with well enough marks that I can get certified over the summer. However, I've always wanted to fly (and I've even taken a nose dive off a chair because of this), so I'm currently looking into Hang Gliding. And...of course, I'd love to Surf and Snowboard as well. I went to a camp for Canoe-ing wayy back...maybe 7 years ago? And I've tried kayaking on a lake a few times. And..well..I could go on and on about what I wish I could do and what I'm planning to do as soon as I have time and money (not-so-distant future, hopefully. Where there's a will, there's a way! >D ), but I guess I could some it all up in: I guess I'm just a bit of a wild child? (..now I gotta go listen to some Enya....XD ) |
Mostly I just hike/backpack. Though every August, my dad, uncles, and cousins(only guys) go camping/hiking/backpacking at the same time. Some of them call it male bonding time...I call it an excuse to get out of work. Well, I dont use it that way, but I know some of my cousins do. Its pretty fun, since we all pitch in, carry our own equipment, and food, and just spend the whole time hiking and camping out in the mountains.

I always canoe and kayak in the summer. The river here is tough so it's fun as long as you don't tip then it get a bit scary. I've scuba dived in the Galapagos and that was amazing. Best diving trip ever just for the fact there were so many animals you don't see other places. I also love to moutain climb and hike too. Camping is fun as well and no I am not talking about in an RV or pop up. I mean old fashioned tent camping or even just sleeping under the stars in a sleeping bag cooking food on an open flame.

i like to go hiking every now and again. i live out in the mountains, so i go hiking. never really see much though. maybe a few rabbits, and elk or two, but that's it, and i think, so far, it's a good thing i've never run into anything else!

I like to go camping when I get the chance but I'll take a nice walk in the woods or the occasional trip the beach any day.

I've never been camping, but it's something i'd like to do, out in some woods or something. There's not much interesting terrain within my easy reach.
I do love walking in the woods on campus here at uni though, and at home there's a country park or two within easy reach. Myself and some friends sometimes go wondering over there, but camping isn't allowed i don't think. I'd love to go rafting or horseback trekking around and about. |
I do amateur gorge-walking with my family.
It's basically where you pick a length of river (preferably one with lots of interesting terrain and waterfalls) and navigate your way up it, with a mixture of walking, climbing over rocks and swimming. Unfortunately, while me, my mum and my brothers tend to pick the safest route, my husband and my dad both have a real sense of adventure, and they get a bit over-competitive sometimes and egg each other on. "Let's go this way. That way's way too dangerous." "Yeah, you're right... the water's too deep and fast over those rocks." "Yeah, I understand why you don't want to do it." "I never said I didn't want to do it!" "Well I'll do it if you will!" Next thing you know, they're both hanging onto a shard of rock for dear life, trying not to get swept over a huge waterfall. They'll be the death of each other. :gonk: We also climb mountains, and do what my dad calls "real camping", which is where you go out into the middle of nowhere with nothing but your sleeping bag, a fishing rod and basic tools. You have to catch your own food, build your own shelter etc. |
I really want to skydive/hang glide when I'm older. I think it sounds really fun! I would be worried about the injuries while skydiving, but I think hang gliding would be very exciting!
Since I live in Minnesota, my adventures include: hiking/backpacking, canoeing, camping, "cliff" diving in the BWCA, etc. I really love doing those activities though. I love camping and being outdoors. |
