right now, i have at least one skunk living under my house. it's very irritating cuz almost every night around midnight or so, the dang thing stinks up the house! what's even worse is my bathroom is always the one to smell the worst! also, our neighbor says she has a skunk under her house, too, and a big one at that! she said she saw it one night and thought it was her dog at first!
so, how many of you out there have problems with skunks?

Seeing as they aren't native (or really around at all) in the UK, i can't say i've ever had that exact problem. The closest i can come, is when a pigeon flew down our chimney, behind the sealed in fireplace, and decided to die.
Flies kept appearing around the house in massive numbers. We got 14 in the space of a half hour once. This went on for a couple days, when one of the cats started to take an interest in the fireplace. We figured what must have happened, and had to get somebody out to remove the fireplace, and the unfortunate birdie.
We had a chimney gaurd put on after that.

Ugh. There was a skunk in the parking lot of my apartment complex a couple of days ago. Stank up the entire apartment. >_>
And my high school had a massive skunk problem my senior year; they had gotten into the vents somehow, and the main floor just reeked of skunk for the entire spring semester. That's not to mention the many times kids (mainly my friends, and if I'd known at the time, I would've smacked 'em good) threw skunk-scented stink bombs in the main lobby. My school was a very stinky place to be that year...

Something is scaring it nightly? Skunks don't spray unless they have too.

Yuck! That's got to be gross! I hope you get it figured out. I've never had a skunk problem at my house, but I know there are skunks in the area. When we are driving, it isn't too uncommon to smell a skunk that someone most likely ran over. lol

Wow, lol. I used to have a skunk that lived in my steps (there was a crack in them) and it never smelled up anything (he must have been super polite.) That must be so annoying.
When I was growing up, between the possums and the skunks my friends were scared to come over to my house at night. (What prissy suburbanites ...)

I don't blame them. I've grown up around possums, and I'm STILL terrified of them.
I actually had to scare one off a couple days ago. Little bastard was running straight at me, so I hissed at it, and it ran away. >_>

Awwww skunk that's so cute! The only experience I've had with skunks is just driving and then smelling one somewhere, usually dead.

Nope! No skunks for me! If you or a pet ever get sprayed though the hydrogen peroxide/soap/baking soda method works!

living in skunk territory. first one was hanging around the house and anytime someone came home the dang thing would spray. We would never see it but could smell it every day. Then it got hit in the road, but it was only like 20 feet from the house so still stank. Than another one got hit about the same distance but from the other direction. I'm pretty sure there are still a few around. . .apparently small holes randomly dug into your yard is a sign that skunks are around. We must have a whole family in our neighborhood.

this actually isn't the first time i've had skunks living under the house. i think it was the summer after my freshmen year of high school, the skunks started living out in the barn, stealing the catfood everynight. my mom closed off the area they were living in, so the left the barn. next, they tried to live in the dog house, which didn't go so well. my dog got one of them and kept it's tail as a trophy until she shredded it. that's when they discovered living under the house. i remember at the time, i had a black and white cat who thought they were just other cats like him, so he tried to be friends with them. poor guy got sprayed. :p
