Beginner Skate Boarder Needing Advice
Alright, so I am a college sophomore/junior and I just decided that I was finally going to pick up skateboarding. Something I had been wanting to do but could never seem to start.
I have bought a board and everything and started on Thursday just practicing riding. Hopefully I can eventually learn some kinds of little tricks or something, but for right now I want to get the basics down. Does anyone have any pointers, tips, ideas that might help me out with this? I already know that I'm going to suck at first, not to push it to much, and that I will fall on my butt and other parts many times...but other then that? I've been sick all weekend and with the horrible rain here in the North East I have not gotten to practice much (about 30 minutes on Thursday and 10 minutes on Friday). But yeah, anything would be helpful. ---------- No one? |
Be careful on sidewalks and streets and stuff, cause the wheels on the board dont just roll over small rocks and pebbles, so when the wheel hits what ever is in the way, the board will stop, and you will go flying.... It hurts... And when you fall, dont try to stop yourself, just sort of let it happen, cause it will hurt way worse if you land on you wrist or something.....

When you're going to fall, just let yourself fall. It hurts way too much to try to not hit something (say, you're about to land on your bum) don't flop over onto your stomach. Be aware of people out in the streets, some kids are kind of nasty and like to go kicking your board and trying to make you fall.. those little beetches. You don't really have to go fast or slow, and when you're trying to turn, don't lean too far over or change your mind at the last minute. And don't try to do an ollie or a rail grind just yet. xD |
AW! Thanks guys! Yeah...ollies and grinding will come after I get riding down 100% (hopefully in by next month) I am really getting into it and REALLY appreciate your input!

You need a lot of balance on those things.
I wish I could at least try once, but I'm no good on wheels. |

I don't skateboard at all but I'll say one thing. DON'T FALL!!!!!!!! lol
