A question for Wiccans?
(Hope I put it in the right spot.)
Preferably Eclectic Wiccans that have been so for several years. I've all ready read a lot (practically everything, actually) here: Wicca: For the Rest of Us but I'm a little confused on some things, and would like to know more about other things. In fact, I may even want to find someone that I can frequently turn to for questions like these (if you're interested.) I'd like to know more about the God and the Goddess: Are they purely conceptual i.e. a visual mental image and word for something that has none (including being the "face" for multiple deities), or are they more specific beings? Are the Horned God and Triple Goddess required concepts that must apply to the God and the Goddess, or is that more of an opinion, something that not all Wiccans believe? Are the God and Goddess whatever a Wiccan interprets them to be (i.e. could you believe that all the Gods and Goddesses of history are really the same and express this thought in the God and Goddess; or an expression of nature and unseen forces and energies in it)? What are some ways you worship/ build a relationship with them? What is the the reason or purpose of building a relationship with them? And some other questions of other aspects: Is it a requirement to use magic in Wicca? Can the magic in Wicca also be considered intuition, but more in depth than society in general perceives it? Are sabbats a necessary part of Wicca, or voluntary? EDIT: Another question - do Wiccans believe in reincarnation? |
I'm Wiccan myself, but I was born that way. I know some will try to say that you can't be born into that, but I was turning the tv off at age two while laying in the floor trying to go to sleep and the tv remote was on top of the fridge in the kitchen. No I didn't un plug it or anything, and no one else turned it off, no one was around but my mom and uncle. They say I sat up said 'tv off' and it turned off.
But I'd love to know the answers to those question's as well. So Yah. Hi? |
Hello. :)
Kind of off topic but there's no one else here yet and it provides some discussion so... I wasn't born Wiccan, I was brought up in LDS, turned atheist at 14. I've been atheist for years now, and honestly it always felt a little lacking, and I have certain ideas about spirituality. I started reading about Wicca the other day, mostly because I've always like mystical things, but a lot kind of matches up, so now I'm going for clarification to see if this is what I really am at heart I guess. There's some aspects that don't match up as well though, but they're mostly (as far as I understand) concepts of the faith belonging to Traditional and Gardnerians. Which is why I said preferably eclectic Wiccans. |
What does LDS mean?
I know that Wicca is it's own religion now, but I live in Alabama, so I can't be open about that, and keep my son. (for some reason, if Alabama catches Wicca books in a house, they'll take away kids.... scary) But I love reading about Wicca things and love finding other Wiccan's. I'm not really an eclectic wicca or a white witch or a black witch. I'm just random. lol. Hopefully you'll get the answers your looking for. |
@Royal Knight: LDS is the Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints..... basically, another way to say Mormon.
|
LDS is probably better known as Mormon.
Wow I can't believe they'd do that, it's ridiculous. The people who decided that must be confusing Wicca with Satanism or something. |
@bakacoconut thanks, show's how much I pay attention to other religions, lol.
@crushedandmelted it's just that Alabama is a bible belt... *shivers* anyways. sorry if I seemed stupid about that, lol |
I have been a Solitary Eclectic Wiccan for a couple years now so I will try to answer your questions to the best of what I know. There is no exact right things to believe in for Eclectic wicca especially those that are Solitary because usually if you belong to a coven they will all have their way of doing things or the details of what they believe. Just so you are aware, Wiccans are Pagan but Pagans are not Wiccan. The thing that separates them is that Pagans do not perform magick while Wiccans do. However in order to be Wiccan you must believe in the religious aspect of it and not just perform the magick. If you only perform the magick then you are only a witch and not a Wiccan. The God and Goddess are not specific beings in Wicca, many different Wiccans see them differently. Usually individual Wiccans choose their own represention of the Goddess and God. One Wiccan may see the God as Odin and the Goddess as Artemis while another Wiccan sees them as Apollo and Diana. The Horned God is just another way of describing the God because in Wicca there is always a God and Goddess. You don't have to necessarily visualize the God this way. The Triple Goddess is an abbreviation of Maiden, Mother, Crone which are depictions of who the Goddess is. It descibes the female life cycle and phases of the moon. All Wiccans embrace this concept as far as I know. The way you would build a relationship with the Goddess and the God would be to first initiate yourself as a Wiccan or join a coven if you do not wish to be solitary. You would then build a relationship with the deities through the works and worship of your coven or through your own altar. There are 8 special days in the year in which Wiccans celebrate a certain part in the cycle of life of the Goddess and the God. These days are called Sabbats. They take place during different times of the year and are around the same time but fall on different days depending on the year. (look in a Wiccan callendar to find the exact days they fall on) These as well as full moon celebrations known as Esbats are especially special times to build a relationship with the Goddess and God. The purpose of building a relationship with them is to help you to get to know them and become more connected so that you honour them and become more strong in Wicca and the earth.
If you want to learn more about Solitary Eclectic Wicca I highly recommend reading: Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner - Scott Cunningham Living Wicca: A Further Guide for the Solitary Practitioner - Scott Cunningham Wicca For One: Raymond Buckland |
Thank you for your reply Miserine, I'll check those books out if I can.

Hi, I've been a Wiccan for five years. I was going to answer your questions but they all seemed pretty much answered. As for the whole Alabama thing....that's one state I won't consider moving to! I'll go somewhere were it's ok to be out of the metaphorical broom closet.
