Contented with your NAME?

my first two names: Bea Mae
i'm fine with my middle name and surname...
but i keep on complaining about my first two name
how short and insignificant... and the worst part...
some would even pronounce it as
Biya Mi. like WT... i mean.. oh c'mon?

so do you have problems with your names?
does people mispronounce them sometimes?
does it have a history why your parents named you that name?

Locaisha 03-16-2010 05:34 AM

omg! ok So my name Is Gabrielle Reed (insert last name...) well every one pronounces it Gabriel and it drives me nuts!!!! or like instead of saying Gabrielle a substitute will ask, is Gabe here? its just aggravating! my name is sooo pretty and no one can pronounce it!

The Real Nikki 03-16-2010 05:38 AM

Catherine and Maria were the names of my greatgrandmothers.
Lovely ladies, so my parents named me after them, but screwed it up just a little. (Kathryn Mariee)
I just go by Katie, which people make up spellings for. (Katie is the most common way of spelling anyways, so eh).

And then I have one of the worst sounding last names, thanks to my father.
People try to say it with all these accents and things, but I tell them just to pronounce it as white as they can. "Gah-var-ah". Not that hard to say. People think that because I have a ton of a's and my skin is brown that I'm mexican or something. Trust me, I'm white. And so is my last name. Swedish actually. .-.

ziatenaj 03-16-2010 06:07 AM

Only the fact that Janet sounds like a mom name. People like to pronounce it Jannette.
Its like my name only has one n and one e. Its spelled just like Janet Jackson's. LAME.

Xitemo 03-16-2010 06:37 AM

My name is as follows:

Christopher Ju'maa Thomas Skrzypczak

Yeah. 4 names. Nice huh? XD I like it well enough, and it's pretty easy to wait for my name to be called on most occasions. I kinda just zone out until I hear the speaker stutter, at which point I pay attention long enough to see if they're trying to say something with an 'S' at the start. Then I offer the pronunciation and they say 'yes!' excitedly and ask me where the name is from. I say Polish and we get down to business. XD

sephy 03-16-2010 06:50 AM

My name is Bridgette Mae Huot. (Hew-it)

A lot of teachers get my name wrong, good thing I don't have to worry about that anymore. XD
Umm I got my name from a nurse that took care of my mother, that's what she told me anyways, since she barely says anything lol Middle name is from her mother.

The only problem with my first name is it's too long, hopefully i'll be able to change it later, lol i want it to be changed to sephy! oh silly silly thing. Also the irs even spells it wrong...after countless times of telling them to add on another t and e =3=''

I didn't used to like my first name when i was younger. I guess you could say i grew into it though. Very few other people have it, so it makes me feel speical.

It gets mispronounces ALL of the time. I even got called Marlon once. Heck, whats with that!? I'm not a boy. Most commonly is MariAN instead of MariON.
My middle name doesn't even register as being mine in my own head. I never use it, although it's a fairly common middle name.
My surname is one big semantic barrier too.
It's Godwin. God (mighty all powerful being) and Win (to gain a prize of some kind). What's so hard about that!?
I often get called 'Goodwin'. Good/God!? Two completly different words. I have such rage about it XD

I have to tick yes on the history front too. My dad was left an orphan when his mom died when he was young, so i got named after her.

Miserine 03-16-2010 07:49 AM

I remember when I was little that I didn't really like my name and wished that I had a different one. Now I love my first name and wouldn't want any other name. I don't really like my middle name though. It was supposed to be Rose but my father screwed up the birth certificate because my mother was unconscious. My first name is Emily and my last name is a boring German name. If I could change my name I would change my middle name and my last name. I have had substitute teachers in Elementary school or Junior High that could not pronounce my last name and would butcher it completely. >.< If they watched The Peanuts cartoon or read the comic like normal old people then they would know how to pronounce it. I think that my oldest sister picked out my name in a baby names book. XP My mother suggested Rebecca but my father hates the nickname, "Becca."

Laffy_Taffy 03-16-2010 08:59 AM

Well i'm okay with my name since not many people have it and it's easy to spell since it's only four letters XD
Well my first name is "Thea" and my second is "Christine" <---don't like it that much XD
My last name is SO RANDOM i really don't like it
I wish it was nicer like my grandmother's name which was "Cortez" <---Such a hot last name =3

Kid Disaster 03-16-2010 10:23 AM

I never have a problem with pronunciation -- it's spelling that always gets everyone.

K-E-R-R-Y.
I know it's less common than Carrie, but hell, it shouldn't be that hard. Even my family members replace the y with an i a lot. -_-

Then I get teased sometimes because it's the unisex spelling. My comeback is always just, "Fuck you, it's Irish!"

Hearing-wise when it's noisy and I'm trying to introduce myself, people tend to hear me wrong. So if I'm at a concert or something & someone asks my name, I just tell them K. It's not as hard to mishear. XD

Royal Knight 03-16-2010 12:23 PM

I hated my first name growing up, and still hate it. But I wouldn't feel right being called anything else anymore. Except for Izzy of course, lol.

My real name is Anne Marie King.......... I'd love to keep Marie, but throw Anne and King out. Ick, good thing I'm gettin' married in June. But so, my mom wanted to name me "Theula Rose" and my dad's mom and his sister kept telling her it was a "N's" name (N = bad name fer black people) So she finally gave in and let them name me Anne Marie.... After some old dead lady in the family... my dad's mom's mom, or something like that.... People always get it wrong, 'Annie' 'Ann' 'Ana' 'Anna' .. It's just.. ANNE!!! Deal..... ick.............

unseenchii 03-16-2010 01:55 PM

I'm not contented with it. My name is kinda boring. I want something unique and something that stands out in a positive way.

Codette 03-16-2010 02:54 PM

Oh god I hate my name. Shelby Lynn (Last Name). I love my last name. It's so Scottish and wonderful, although telemarketers can never pronounce it, it's stupid easy.

But seriously 'Shelby'... there is no good nickname for 'Shelby' and it's annoying to leave long.. I'm pretty much stuck with 'Shell' or "Bee', granted some girls in Elementary school called me "Shellbum". Lets just say I'm not a fan of my name. My mom heard it when she watched a movie called 'The Woman in Red' and loved it. Shelby means "A place where the Willows grow, Sheltered". Until the 1940's it was a boys name. *eyeroll* Thats why I have a million and one alias'.

Now Lynn, I like. It's soft and pretty and feminine. Sure it
's common, but it's nice.

SugarRos 03-16-2010 03:41 PM

I HATED my first name when I was little. Alisa. I hated it with a passion. No one could pronounce it right (I always got 'alissa, Alyssa, Alicia, etc.'), AND I could never find anything with my name printed on it.

Now, however, I really love my first name. I've only met a few other Alisa's, and I find it pretty and unique. However, I now hate my last name, which is Smith. SO BORING.

I just can't seem to be satisfied. ;P

Also, my mom wanted at first to give me the middle name 'Stella' in honor of her best friend, but didn't, thank god, because it would have made my initials 'ASS.' XD

Rikkuzia 03-16-2010 04:34 PM

I was named after my aunt Catherine, but to avoid confusion, my parents spelled it with a "K".

I've been going by "Kati" because of how many Kathy/Katy/Katie/Cats there were in my schools. :3 (I dropped the 'e' because I could.)

I'm fine with my name~

BrokenAngell 03-16-2010 04:40 PM

My name is Rachael Danielle (_Insert Last Name_) and my teachers pronounce it (Rash-I-el) im like wth? Its an easy name. And omg dont get me started on Danielle, there always calling me daniel. how can you get the simplest name wrong? ugh

Supi 03-16-2010 08:13 PM

Why yes..

My name, which I'm not going to post other than to say it starts with a K, is a major point of frustration with me. If I had to admit it the name isn't that bad I suppose. I guess. But I hate it. It's just not -my- name.

My mom named me after a friend of hers that committed suicide. Because that's just lovely having that kind of burden over my head >.>

Anyway, besides the fact no one can SPELL my name (and really how hard is it to remember grammar rules?) I just don't really like it. And of course, because I don't my mom uses it as weapon - like I should just love the name because of it's origins, and is mad I don't.

Snort Like A Pig 03-16-2010 08:14 PM

People mispronounce my name all the time. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. :) But I have to live with it, so it's like, whatever. Ha ha.

Rigoa Aairdre 03-16-2010 09:10 PM

Name1:Rigoa Aairdre
Name2:Aaron Edwards
Name3: Eisyl Aedas

Ok so here it is; I go by 3 different names, keeping my real name a secret (it's sad when your parents forget what your real name was xP) I get problems with each name. Rigoa Aairdre is always mis-pronounced. if I had my old computer I could've used the software to show you what I mean.

Next is Aaron Ewards. The only problem I have with this one is it gets misspelled. my family calls me Aaron Edwards, because it's my uncles name. He was in the navy and when I was a kid I wanted to be a CPO like he was when he retired.

Eisyl Aedas this one is also pronounced wrong.

each name has a history, but that's a story for another day :D

I don't mean to double post, still getting used to the subscribe feature XD ignore me XD

angel4party 03-17-2010 12:21 AM

My name is Nyssa (pronounced Nissa) Marie ******. My parents got my name from a T.V show called Doctor Who. It's a British show, its pretty good. But people can't say it right, they call me Nessa, Niassa. People just can't seem to get it right. Its so annoying.

amam2217 03-17-2010 12:35 AM

My name doesn't bug me, but I hate how it can be spelt in so many different ways, so my name is constantly being spelt wrong. [Alicia.]

AgnesGloom 03-17-2010 01:05 AM

I like my first name, Kathryn. I think my mom told me that she named me after Kathryn Hepburn. I prefer to go by Katie, but my parents still call me Kate which I don't like. That was the nickname they chose so I let it slide. My middle name is Marie. I didn't like it much for a long time, but when I learned it means "Star of The Sea", I started to like it alot more.

My name is Alisa, and people call me 'Alicia' all the time.

Krokodil 03-17-2010 01:38 AM

My name is Skyler.
I LOVE my name so much. I don't know very man males named Skyler so that makes it cooler. I also noticed that most Skylers around her spell their name differently from mine so that's cool too.

Haruishino 03-17-2010 01:48 AM

I love my name is goes great together, unfortunatly my last name is German and for some reason people can't say it without me breaking it down into syllables. Jacob Allen Brosofske. It is kinda funny and annoying depending on the circumstance...its funny when you have a teacher who calls everyone by their last last name and then goes..Mr. Bru..bro..bro...Jacob.
