Dress advice? (50's style, pic-heavy)
I'm looking at 40s and 50s vintage patterns (for my wedding dress). It'll be green silk, so the material on the patterns obviously doesn't matter. I'm just trying to figure out which one would look best on me. I'm 5'4", about 130 pounds, and my hips and chest are about the same width, from the front (but I have an apple bottom), just for reference.
Any suggestions for patterns / sites with patterns would be greatly appreciated! EDIT: Also, am I too short to wear a tea-length dress? #1: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/a...560_384057.jpg #2: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/a...560_384057.jpg (The shorter one) #3: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/a...560_384056.jpg #4: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/a...560_384056.jpg #5: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/a...560_384056.jpg (My favorite one so far) #6: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/a...560_384047.jpg #7: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/a...560_384047.jpg |
Hmmm...
I don't really know anything about dresses, what would look good on you specifically, or fashion. But I can say that I don't think the first or third look like wedding dress designs. =P |
I really like number 7 the pink dress it's so pretty looking.
I love #4! The straps on them are gorgeous!
And who cares if you're "too short" for a tea length dress? Wear what you like! It's your wedding, not anyone else's ;D |
I think number 3 is good. To me it has a touch of class without having a gaudy look that a lot of the 50s dresses had.
I second what Keyori said I love number #4
I'm imagining all of these in green silk, and I think that #3 or #5 would be best. The draped bodices on both would look absolutely stunning in silk. And I don't think you're too short for a tea length dress, far from it -- showing a bit of leg might even make you appear taller.
Personally, I like the design of the black one on #3. But thats just the opinion of one male.
5 and 7 are my favorites. 5 is a nice and cute design while 7 is more fancy and elegant. I think either would be a great choice.
My FH thinks #7 is "too princess-y," but I think if I have a less poofy skirt made, it'll be fine. I'm still torn on 5 and 7, though!
I really, really adore dress 4!!! I want one just like it... its simple but very classy :) and I'm short (5'2'') and wear all kinds of different lengths of dresses, so I wouldn't worry too much about tea length dress. Just go with what you feel is right for you!
if i'd have to pick, i'd go with #7, however i'm not much a fan or any of the dresses.
I'm sure you will pick what is best for you though |
I like #3, it's simple but classy at the same time.
I love 7 and 5. If your wedding isn't an opportunity to look like a princess, what is?
i agree with you on #5 being the favorite. i think that out of all of them it would look best in green silk
I chose numbers five and one with more of a preference for number five. I have always loved that style. Plus you can chose to have hidden pockets or not. I'd wear a tea length dress if you want to. It is your wedding after all lol. I don't think tea length looks bad on shorter people. I actually prefer that lenght on shorter women like myself (5"3). It would also look amazing in green silk just as lulliloo said. Congrats on your impending marriage. ^_^
"Impending marriage" makes me think of "impending doom," LOL! But thanks, you guys. You're all very sweet. :)
I'm really, really leaning toward #5, but knee-length instead of tea-length because it'll give me the option of wearing less extreme heels without looking too short. Hidden pockets would be a genius touch, too! |
I said number 7, because I believe it to be more wedding appropriate. Of course, it would require more effort to make it work, since you have green silk, and it's not originally silk. So, you'd either have to edit your materials or the dress style. Otherwise, number 6 or 5. I guess I'm a little more traditional and would rather see full length skirts for formal occasions like weddings (and prom), but I think since you're shorter, the full length could go either way. It could help you, or it could make you appear even shorter. With the tea-length, you could pair it with heels that add the illusion of longer legs and make you look naturally taller.
I like my legs, so I think I'll go with a knee-length dress instead of full-length--full length tends to only work on me if it's very slinky and form-fitting, which these styles obviously are not. xD
I love the style of number three. I think it would look awesome as a wedding dress.
And congratulations! |
I love #1 and 3.
