Snuck is totally a word! :O

Isn't it? It just sounds way better than "sneaked". Like, seriously. "Sneaked" sound as bad as "Runned". Yet OpenOffice spell check says that snuck is wrong. But I hear it used every day, even on TV! But I also hear sneaked...And some people say "snuck" is right, some say "sneaked" is right, some say both... :feesh:

What do you think? "Snuck" or "Sneaked"?
Any other words you can think of that are like this?

Draciolus 05-04-2010 11:56 PM

Well, Snuck, and Sneaked are both words. But runned isnt.

As for other words, none that come to the top of my head right now.

I prefer "snuck" because it sounds slightly dirty. SNUCK YOU! >D

I used that word earlier as a matter of fact. I just stared at the word with the red line under it thinking, "This so is a word, I hear it all the time. And no one has seemed to care", and I wondered why people don't think that it is a real word @[email protected]

To me "snuck" sounds cuter than "sneaked", I would most likely use snuck in a conversation.

Draciolus 05-05-2010 05:18 PM

I just thought of two good examples where both of them are words.

Example 1:

He sneaked into the room while they werent looking.

Example 2:

I snuck you a cookie while moms back was turned.

Actually, "snuck" is a colloquialism - a word only in certain parts of the world, but not a formal word even though it can show up in dictionaries. It's really popular in America; I dunno about other places. It's not a big deal, though. Just like people are supposed to say, "He's taller than I," instead of "He's taller than me." The incorrect form ("He's taller than me.") sounds better for some reason and is therefore more popular. I recently finished a university grammar class, and I remember being a little shocked when I found this out, too. LOL

Snuck definitely sounds weird. Is that even a word?

ketchup yo 05-07-2010 03:34 PM

That's a lot like what i did. XD i stared at the little red line and said "This is so a word!" and "sneaked" just didn' sound right there, ya know? so then i started this thread to see if anyone else agreed that it's a word! but if its a word, why does spell check not think so?

Louis duLac 05-08-2010 06:45 PM

Haha, I use that word all the time too. :D Sneaked sounds like the weird one to me, actually.

Ode 05-08-2010 10:32 PM

It's a word. OpenOffice is awful. I hate it. >:(

melonmilk 05-10-2010 05:45 AM

Snuck! Yeah, definitely snuck. It DOES sound dirty, but also..... it just sounds right. Even if it isn't, it's evolved to sound right. To hell with sneaked! D<

adella_demona 05-10-2010 11:59 PM

wow...you're totally right 0.0
"sneaked" just sounds a little too forced, to me. "Snuck" does sound much cuter ^_^;
Dude...I wanna name a cat or a dog "snuck" now...just because it'd be funny.
and it does sound dirty ^_^;
At first it doesn't look right but then when you think about it, it makes sense.

I can't really think of anything else that's like that.

The Bebe Girl 05-11-2010 12:30 AM

both are words.

saw and seen are similar

Pandur 05-11-2010 01:01 PM

Snuck sounds better to me, just cause the English language is weird and usually does stuff like that for past-tense, so it makes more sense to me. xP

melonmilk 05-11-2010 04:56 PM

Oh! I've got it. Snuck is American English, sneaked is British English! :D

Vexatious~Venom 05-16-2010 06:38 PM

I say snuck all the time. I totally agree with you that sneaed sounds as bad as runned. I am normally pretty good at getting the grammer stuff right, just snuck is one thing I always say.

As is jamp. I say jamp rather than jumped.
