If you're an important doctor maybe. General staff get regular but shitty hours, by my understanding.

God I have so many interests...I'd love to be a tattoo artist. I have sketchbooks full of designs. But I'd also like to write. Neith of which will get me very far in this world, sadly.

icandiee 07-10-2010 07:38 PM

My dream job is to be a veterinarian, but I think I can be one! ;D
Or if not then a radiologist or a doctor :3

Michy Lea 07-11-2010 12:20 AM

Tezonic - Web designing seems like it would be a fun thing to do if you're good at that sort of thing.

Abduco - I've always had a desire to work in a hospital. I wanted to be a doctor or a nurse, but I really don't like touching strangers.

Iadul - Being a tattoo artist could get you far. Just look at Kat Von D.

icandiee - I couldn't be a veterinarian 'cause of the times you can't save the animal.

Abduco 07-11-2010 01:15 AM

@ The Wandering Poet - Depends, really.
@ Hermes - Yeah, the hours are suckish. But I think I'd rather work a long day for 3-4 days a week than better hours but for 6 days. Allows for more sleeping in~
@First to Never Know - Yes! That's another reason. I like hospitals, no idea why.

Michy Lea 07-11-2010 03:40 AM

Me too. Have you seen that show Boston Med on ABC? It's a reality show that films in three hospitals in Boston. Really good show. I've always been into that kind of show, which is what made me interested in working in a hospital. I've always been interested in the scripted hospital shows too.

Sforzando 07-11-2010 03:47 AM

My dream job would be to act on Broadway. Either that or be a drama teacher.

They've tested switching to a 4 day work week in a lot of places in America and they're actually finding in many cases that people prefer it. 4 days of 10 hours seem to make people happier than 5 days at 8 hours each. There you go!

Michy Lea 07-12-2010 01:39 AM

Sforzando - Acting on Broadway could be fun. So could being a drama teacher. Good luck with that.

Hermes - I think people are happier with 4 days at 10 hours a day compared to 5 days at 8 hours, 'cause you seem to get more rest the more consecutive days off you have. I, however, don't want to return to work after three consecutive days off. Heck, I've had two days off, and I don't really feel like returning to work tomorrow. That's probably because I've gotten zero rest this weekend, as my car broke down and had to get fixed after driving 150 miles round trip to get the part AND babysitting all weekend. Actually, in a way, I'm ready for this weekend to be over.

Hermes 07-12-2010 01:44 AM

Well when a weekend is work it kind of loses a lot of the appeal as rest time. =P Personally I'd prefer 3 days off because I'd have more time to finish all that stuff you have to get done.

Abduco 07-12-2010 01:47 AM

Hermes - Makes sense. Longer break :D I think I'd actually like a late shift, I'm just a night owl person.

First to Never Know - Ahh, that sucks! But the weekend is pretty much over now.

Michy Lea 07-12-2010 01:50 AM

Hermes - Yeah, three days off is nice, but I work in fast food and only get about 30 hours in a 4 day week, so I need that fifth day.

Abduco - Yes, it did not turn out to be the weekend I had planned. I had planned to do an extreme cleaning of my house. My twin and her husband are supposed to come visit in a week, and my house looks like crap. Well, it looks okay, but not stay-over-company-good.

Thank you.

Hermes 07-12-2010 03:09 AM

Abduco, I have a friend who works night shifts. Beware them. Sometimes they just screw you over with hours when you're on night shifts. Sometimes since you're not working the normal shifts you end up with weeeiiird schedules. =P

First to Never Know, ahhh. Well I think they run the 4 day work week test on people with a more full time schedule. Even with a 4 day week services like that would stay open though. =P

Sforzando, I missed your post. You want to do Broadway?

Sforzando 07-12-2010 03:17 AM

Hermes, Absolutely. Acting and singing are my passions. I do need a lot of work (particularily in the timing/rhythm section) but...yeah.

Hermes 07-12-2010 03:19 AM

How old are you?
Also, I like to think I know a lot about working Broadway. You make enough money to buy whatever you want but you have no time to do it. xD Do you dance?

Abduco 07-12-2010 03:21 AM

Hermes - Weird hours? Like what? D:

Sforzando - That sounds fun! It's good that you know what you need to work on since that means you can only improve.

Sforzando 07-12-2010 03:26 AM

Hermes, I'm 17. I have very very very basic skills in dance. But, I plan on getting lessons. I joined winter guard last year, so I had a little introduction to it. Then this summer, I had a summer school class dedicated to musical theatre and the first have of the class was nothing but dance. This upcoming school year, my teacher has designated Fridays as dance days. (This teacher is my choir and drama teacher. He directs all the school plays/musicals, and he DJs the dances. He took 15 years of ballet, I don't know how long he took tap...Anyway. He's good. He's performing as Mark in a local production of Rent this month.) But anyway, he's helping me learn dance and get into a good college for this kind of thing.

Abduco, thank you very much. I definitely need a lot of work. And performing is probably the only thing that I'm willing to work on to get better.

Hermes 07-12-2010 03:52 AM

Abduco, I mean like she'll get 14 days straight then 4 days off instead of 5 then 2.

Sforzando, that's cool. The more practice you can get the better. I started dance late too and it's really hard to get it into your body if you didn't grow up with it. Where do you live?

Sforzando 07-12-2010 04:04 AM

Hermes, I live in Washington. And dance is really hard for me.

Hermes 07-12-2010 06:40 AM

I don't know what's in Washington, but there's some good stuff in Vancouver, theatre-wise.
As to dancing seriously just practice. Everything gets better with practice. It took me three years to get to where I am now. I'm no dancer, but I'm a darn good musical theatre chorus member.

Sforzando 07-13-2010 05:01 AM

Washington has 5th Avenue! And the Paramount Theatre. XD I have not yet experienced being a chorus member. Granted, I've only been in one musical. And there wasn't really a chorus part to it. And RLOC and ACT, but I'm not a big fan of those.

If I could do anything, I would be a medical examiner, the person who performs autopsies on people. I believe i could totally handle cutting up the dead, no matter how gruesome, and I think it would be an absolutely fascinating job, especially for really different cases. I'd work for a national government agency and be called out for really bizarre cases, like odd viruses or serial killers or something. What's also neat is that they're seen as being really important when it comes to the dead- the police officers come in and request information and respect the opinions of the medical examiners and they also get called to testify in court, but good testifying about something they know, not being interrogated for something (which would suck). I just find the body absolutely beautiful, but I wouldn't want to be a doctor who works with live patients. I don't care to talk to those people :)

My other ideal job, and I know this is totally silly and you all are going to think I'm nuts (or lame)... I'd be a pop star :) (And yes, I'm an adult probably older than a good number of you at least.) I think it would be so fun to get up on stage and do all of these cool choreographed moves, but it would also mean I was a great singer. I love to sing but I'm not so great at it. Call me crazy but it would also be neat to be famous. I'd have rabid fans and paparazzi following me (I'm your biggest fan, I'll follow you until you love me!) and it would probably get really old really fast, but 1) this is my little fantasy so I'd also be able to just turn off the rabid-fandom when I wanted and 2) I'd be rich and would only have to leave my large mansion when I wanted, so I could just avoid them a lot. That's another thing- I'd be totally rich and buy fancy clothes (and also donate to charity!) and I'd also wear neat costumes on stage! I'm kinda weird...

What musical were you in and what part were you?

I was in Into the Woods, I played the Witch. We only did the first act, but it wasn't the junior version.
