We are writing big long reports for my English class, basically our end of the semester final. And today, we had to read off to the teacher and the class our ideas and basically, what it is that we are writing about. (Mines over bamboo bike frames and the reasons everyone should use it, kinda boring, but oh well)
This girl in my class forgot to write the name of the company, but she talked about living and moving dolls! Like, they take the genes of spiders, snakes, and chickens and put it into the doll to give it life or something. She said she found it online and the picture she described was soooo ugly.
Have you guys heard about this?
I want to google it and look more into it, but I don't want to wait until the end of summer to hear about it. I don't even now how to search for it.. "Living Dolls", "Gene Altered Dolls", "Dolls with Chicken Skin". They turn up with random stuff that has nothing to do with anything.

Whoa. I haven't heard of that before. Sounds creepy. I don't think I'd ever get a living doll, I don't even like regular ones.

I have heard of them. I believe it was also a hoax if I remember correctly. Someone correct me if I am wrong. There are however, dolls that resemble loved ones that some lady sells. They do not move. Personally, I find it creepy but artistically her work is amazing. I will have to try to find her site.
I almost forgot to add in that some artists even go as far as making the babies "breathe", "cry", and put off heat to create the illusion of body heat.
EDIT: Deborah King was one of them but that was not who I was looking for. Her site is here: Reborn Dolls
Another artist's site Here

Yeah, I heard of those dolls, also very creepy.
These ones are living and growing. They wanted to release it in Canada a few years ago, but the public didn't support the idea too well. I can see why. Unless this girl made it up, with a lot of thought and time to explain it, it sounds pretty real. I don't know.

There was also a website that I found a while back with "adult toy" dolls that looked amazingly life like. Some of those did move but it was robotic. They were amazing looking. They too gave off "body heat" and were made to be as close to a real woman or man that you wanted them to be.

Man...that Jenglot is freaking creepy. I like the real-life baby doll things. It's always interesting to see what artists can accomplish. But that...ewww...it eats blooodddd....
Though, and interesting thing to point out that kind of supplements this conversation: The Uncanny Valley

I swear, with technology, there are going to be computers like in Chobits. It's kind of scary.

>.> I personally think it would be kind of interesting. Though, I do believe that if we're not careful, we would let robots take over. ..In fact, some crazy person would totally program one to kill....>.>
But....they'd probably do that regardless of if we had robots walking around with us all the time. Honestly, I'd love to have a Robot buddy that could do all my math for me..wait. No. Actually...that would be get more irritating than having my little sister do that..>.>

It would be interesting until they start harvesting organs out of robots. O.o
Something following me around all the time would annoy me. I'd have to turn it off or something o.O

I found something Here
Is that what you are talking about?
I think it's pretty neat. And personally can't wait for the day when they can cultivate living organisms to harvest organs from. :]

Honestly, I think cultivating living organisms to to use for organ harvest is disgustingly immoral and selfish. There's plenty of technology and I think it'd me marvelous if we could create robots that would share a likeness to humans. Though, I'd rather not see them replace us. But I think it might be nice, ya know? To have a sort of Robot companion that can do things? Like for the Elderly or Handicapped (physically or mentally)? But cloning yourself to have spare organs is ridiculous. It's the same thing as if you walked right up to somebody whom you knew had the same Blood Type or whatever as you, cut them open, and ripped out their heart for yourself.
As opposed as I am to dying, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to stop it. If we create living organisms, we should bear the same responsibility as a mother would have to a child.
>.>
Sorry....I just really disbelieve that everything we CAN do SHOULD be done. =/

No need to be sorry, Starr. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. And I for one agree with you.
I saw somewhere a piece on Australian(?) scientists growing meat (well muscle tissue) on a network of fibres. It was intended for human consumption. As a vegetarian, I thought it was neat that no animal was killed to procure it. But it still creeped me the hell out.

...umm..I'm not sure I'd eat that kind of meat. Freaky as anything. Though, I don't see why they'd need to cultivate entire humans to have organs for the "needy" (most of the people in need of Liver transplants screwed their livers up by drinking and smoking...T_T). They could just use the technology on a smaller scale and clone healthy cells to form what's needed. The only reason they would bother making an entire human life, that I can think of, is to satisfy their temptations to play god and make themselves feel all powerful by taking the lives they created away (in which case, I pity their children....)
On another note...>.> I'm a total meat eater, but I am entirely against how we treat animals ONLY as food. People keep trying to argue with me that I can't possibly be against animal cruelty and still eat meat. To me, I think of meat as a life-giving nutrient, just as fruits and vegetables are (which I eat equal amounts of, if not more). I would never think of an animal only in terms of what meat I can get from it. T_T

That's all that I, as a vegetarian, ask of people, that they recognize that it was a living thing that it came from, not just a commodity.

haha I definitely agree. Food had to come from somewhere and in my family, at least, we were taught to remember that and be thankful. *sigh* I just get so annoyed at people on either end. A lot of the vegetarians I've met go psycho-self-righteous on me the second I start eating some meat and tell me that I'm not allowed to share their beliefs because I'm eating meat. And then there are meat eaters that are like "pff vegetarians are stupid who cares lawlzmeat" And I sit there wondering why people can't just eat what they wanna eat and leave each other alone. T_T

Exactly how I feel. I am a vegetarian and you wouldn't believe how many people get on my case about it. I do know people that eat meat however, like you said that do not support how animals are just looked at as something to make money off of. The way I see it too is that people can eat what they want because what works for one person may not work for another.

I forgot to post Genpets as part of the "living dolls" too. They are fake and so is the website "selling" them.
