Okay. So, I recently started horse riding. I'm getting lessons with someone who knows what they're talking about and it's going okay. The only thing is, I have a few questions that I'd like to ask any other horse riders on Menewsha. Ya'know. For a wider range of answers. (:

1) Is it okay to wear leggings when you ride a horse ?
Now, I understand that ideally, when you ride a horse, it's a good idea to invest in some chaps or "proper riding clothing", but money's a bit tight right now. I would continue to wear my jeans but I find it very difficult to move in them, especially when mounting the horse and trotting. The area that I'm training in is basically a big sand box arena so if I fall off, I shan't be needing a skin graph or anything like that.

2) How do you trot ?
I understand the basics of trotting, but I find it very difficult to rise and fall with the horse's movements by only using my legs. Is there some for of exercise I could do to make this easier or is it just a matter of practice ?

3) Do you own a horse ? How long have you been riding, or have you never tried it before ? Have you ever wanted to, but not had the time // ca$h ?
This one's just because I'm curious. ^^ Seriously, though. I haven't heard much about horse riding here on Menewsha before. Thought it'd be cool to find out how many of you have tried it ! (:

I'm not a professional horse rider and the best lessons I learned is from experience itself and from a couple of techniques that my friend rider taught me. He says that my I'm more of a racing girl than anything so I don't know anything about leg work for trotting.

For question number one...well I've never worn leggings for riding horses before since I'm in a place that's summer year round so wearing leggings isn't advisable. I wear some jazz pants instead, my stretchable jeans or my cargo pants and they're pretty good. They're easy to move in and provides ample protection from dust and all.

For question number three...I don't own a horse but I've been hitching rides on other people's horses since I was a kid. I'd love to own a horse and explore a couple of the forests here but I don't have the space for a horse and not to mention the money. I'm broke. @[email protected]

For now, I'm just content with borrowing other people's horses.

Racing, eh ? That's awesome ! What's it like ? Have you entered anything or is it just a hobby ? (:

I live in England so, yeah. It's winter all year round. >.< I'll see if I have anything a little more sturdy than leggings. I don't really have anything flexible or baggy. :/

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'd love to own a horse but I don't think my folks would be too happy about it if I got one. I know people who have them too, but I use the horses at the school I get lessons from.

Is there one horse that you're particularly familiar // comfortable with ?

I can't answer 1 or 2, simply because I only know what my horse riding addict friend told me. (:
There's a stable near our town that she goes to that she pays to be able to use any of their horses, if another girl isn't using them, I believe that's how it works. They don't own a horse because it's too expensive, but keep a horse there that they have to take care of for weeks at a time, it works well for them.

Oh it's just a hobby. I love galloping through the fields and going as fast as the horse I'm riding will allow. Yeah. I don't really like controlling the horse. I let the horse do whatever it wants. They can usually tell when I want to go faster or when I want them to slow down so I can catch my breath.

I'm sorry that I can't help anymore. All the riding clothes I have are for hot places so you'll probably freeze to death if you try some baggy shorts. xD

Jogging pants work too. :3

My friend says that his horse is a big baby and that he's always poking his nose in my friend's pockets for a snack. I'd love to have a big baby like his horse. ;_;

I'm familiar with my country's native breed. I'm not sure what it's called but a couple of people said they originated from the small Andalusian variety and Chinese mare. Here's a picture.

If you were asking about the horses that I ride, well there is this one horse named Jopay. We blended perfectly together. There was a time when I was riding her and I sighed. I told her that it was getting pretty hot (since it was in the middle of the afternoon) and she snorted before she walked under the shade of a tree and stopped. She got a treat for that one. xD
