The canadian health care actually only covers certain things, chiropatrics, optometry, dental, and orthodontics are not covered. Also drugs are not covered, so you may have recieved "free treatment" but unless you have a drug plan through work or something...you have to pay a fair bit for drugs.

Though our health care is better than the American health care in that it is 'always' there for you. But only if you need to see the doctor/operation stuff. Not the stuff like glasses and teeth that you also may need from day-to-day.

I'm not complaining. I love our health care, just clearing some stuff. up.

Wynna: Ah, I know for me, optometrist is covered under my health insurance. Of course, you can only go once every two years and it doesn't cover anything outside of glasses [which is covered to an extent]. And there are certain plans that can cover things like medications and stuff. Dental insurance is a whole separate thing for my family. Since my insurance is through my dad's work, I get only a certain amount of coverage. Orthodontic work would have covered me until the age of 16 or 18 [can't remember which]. And I don't get as much coverage as my dad does.

We also have Medicaid [health insurance-ish stuff for people/families that have a low income and resources] and Medicare [health care insurance for people 65+ who may have to meet other criteria as well]. Dunno what exactly those cover though.

So what happens if you live below the poverty line in Canada for whatever reason and you can't afford your prescription medicine? Do you just have to do without? It sounds like there are a lot of rules that apply, I guess since you grew up with it you're used to it. I'm sure that some coverage is better than no coverage at all though.

Estrella~ I would drive a long way if in the long run it was worth the costs to get there and still ended up being a bit cheaper. Like I said it cost me one hundred dollars driving to new jersey and seven hundred and forty-five dollars to have all four fillings, a cleaning, a temporary crown, and a post. I think I spent eight hundred and seventy dollars total-- so I still came out ahead especially when it would have costed me a lot more like sixteen hundred dollars. I hate when dentists secretaries are total bitches. I have a fear of losing my teeth as well. Dental care is very expensive even if you brush your teeth twice and floss once a day, it is difficult. I think I'm going to invest in one of those spin action brushes or something.

secretdae - I know, that's why I decided to just pay for a root canal.

I still need to get my wisdom teeth taken out. D<

Kole - SERIOUSLY.
But when you're on something like OHP, people tend to automatically treat you as an inferior. :\
Well, at least around here.
They also treat you as though you're stupid.
It's like SORRY I'm a single mom, full-time student? Ffs. :stare:

So then it's really no different than being on welfare or medicaid here in the United States. They do the same thing too, even when you go to the grocery store people are who are on food stamps get sneered looks from other customers and blank stares from the cashiers when they pull out their EBT cards. It's really sad, I know it comes from a lot of people abusing the system but some people really do need the help. It is sad the attitudes that all of that has seemed to generate among the people and not just here. If anything if you are trying to help yourself out people should at least give you the benefit of the doubt, but I guess I would not want to have to stop to explain to everyone who saw my EBT card why I was on food stamps or why I was on medicaid and what I was doing to do my part to pay taxes and contribute to society. Hell, even when you buy something you pay taxes sheesh. The government gets enough of our money-- and the states here have such different laws, especially the common wealth states which is a bunch of bullshit... Honestly I think you should call this country the Divided States of America, and I am being dead serious when I say that, and not to be patriotic, but the people in power are really tearing this nation apart and even the regional cultural differences in this country are many. What's even more crazy is the whole thing with the north and the south attitudes still exists to this very day.
