To lose weight, I have cut off most of my food supply to water. And I only eat broccoli, and celery. I know it isn't the best diet, but it is filling.

I'm a little confused by your sentence. Have you cut off your food supply to water, meaning that you are no longer eating the foods that contain a fair amount of water, or are you eating pretty much just water?

Here's my advice:

I think the best bet is to follow the food guide (I live in Canada, so it's the Canadian Food Guide). It gives you an idea of how many servings of this and that you should eat, and there are many different options. However there are some fall backs, if you do happen to be a vegetarian (which I believe you are from previous threads?).

As a vegetarian, you do generally eat healthy foods. However, broccoli, celery and water only offer you very little nutrients and primarily carbohydrates. You want to make sure that you are getting a high enough intake of calcium and vitamin D from dairy and alternatives, because even though broccoli has some calcium it is definitely not enough (like you would have to eat 6 bushels a day to get the minimum requirement).

Also as a vegetarian, you want to make sure that you are getting enough protein, and there are tons of alternatives. Such as, beans, lentils, etc..etc. However, as a vegetarian and a girl (I'm assuming you are a girl by your avatar) you have to take in account your iron intakes. You would definitely want to take into account an iron supplement, because you are not getting enough in from this diet you are describing, or even as a vegetarian it is sometimes tricky, and then on top of that you do lose a fair bit of blood every month through menstruation (Sorry if that's a bit too personal, just trying to help).

Also make sure you are including a fair bit of dietary fibre, to keep your G.I. tract healthy (Don't want to piss that stuff off).

Best of luck! I recommend you choose a diet that is healthy and that you are comfortable with, and it is maintable. This diet that you are describing doesn't seem to be very healthy as it is very lacking of the essential nutrients you need, and I do not think you will be able to sustain yourself on it for very long.

Sorry for my very long post, I am a nursing student, and I am very passionate about nutrition.

No problem, I'm far from being an expert. It's just some stuff I know. We had a final project in university where we had to anaylze our diet right down to the nutrient amounts in micrograms and such. So I reccommend maybe analyzing your diet perhaps and maybe tweaking it a little to your advantage? Like eating heathly fats & oils, being unsaturated fats and little to none trans-fats or saturated fats. To improve your health and help lower your body's fat content (which is I am assuming, why you are on a diet).

Also I would get a good multivitamin just to cover all your nutritional bases, or even speaking to a dietitian or a diet program representative (Such a wieght watchers) so you can work on a healthy diet with them.

I don't know, I am not a member. I'm pretty sure that any dieting/exercise/lifestyle groups are exclusive and that you do have to pay for them.

They say that Celery takes more energy to eat than you gain from eating it. I can't imagine that you'll get very far on only that and Broccoli, but that's just my opinion

Our nutrition professor said that this was an old wives tale, it does take a fair bit of engery to digest considering there is a lot of fibre and cellulose to break apart and such, but she said that to have a negative calorie food is impossible.

Oh ya I heard it too, it was included in our high school student agenda under 'fun facts' in the bottom corners. I believed it too, until university...wish it was still true. I love celery.

Yes it's amazing, though you have to make sure that the celery isn't wet...or it slides off. Not very good...

I can't see you maintaining that diet for very long. It is really low in nutrients. You can't possibly live off broccoli and celery because even if you ate a ton of it you wouldn't even reach 900 calories. A diet that low in calories would cause your body to go into starvation mode. When your body is in this state you hold onto fat. And if you do happen to lose weight it will mainly be muscle.

Try to eat at least 4 oz of meat a day.
One kind of piece bread.
Vegetable & fruit.
&& you know like something for calcium.(:

The best kind of diet you should have is one that is balanced, containing portions of each food groups. Also, dieting alone won't help you lose weight. Atleast 30 minutes of exercise each day is also a plus, because it helps turn food into energy and it'll help put you in better shape. Celery/Broccoli and water diets won't help you lose weight the right way. The best way is to eat controlled portions of balanced meals throughout the day along with light or heavy exercise depending on your metabolism. You could severely hurt your body by starving it of the nutrients it so desperately deserves.

Can I just mention that it is dangerous to eat less than 1200 calories a day.
I would doubt you are reaching that by eating only what you mentioned.
You should also check your BMI to see how much you need to lose, if any.
Your daily calorie intake depends on your age, activity level, weight and height. You can find Calorie Calculators by searching online.

I just found mine for an example (I am trying to lose weight myself):
To maintain my current weight I need to eat: 2072 calories a day
To lose weight I need to restrict my calories to: 1690 calories a day

If you try to restrict your intake too much it can actually halm you and even slow/stop your weight loss after a while. I find calorie control the easiest way to lose weight because I have control over it.

Don't restrict yourself to one type of food too (like only celery and nothing else). You could be missing out on important nutrients. Keep drinking water. You should get about 1.5 - 2 litres a day. Vegetarians can eat healthy too. Do some research on how to get all the nutrients you need.

Stay healthy.

I'm definitely no expert when it comes to dieting, nor am I very familiar on what vegetarians eat to be well balanced. While I eat healthier than my peers, every now and then I'll splurge on something that isn't. As long as I eat something that isn't healthy in low quantities, I don't fear the consequences. I'm extremely active too.

I do know that water, broccoli, and celery alone is not healthy. Your body needs certain nutrients for growth, sustainment, and to be maintained. If you restrict yourself from eating enough, your body will actually retain fat. It will think you are starving and will build up on fat as a survival mechanism.

One thing you haven't mentioned is...why are you trying to lose weight? Is it to be skinny or is it to become healthier? You should work your mindset into becoming healthy. Weight loss shouldn't be the answer to everything; improving your quality of life should be. Research vegetarian diets, eat well, and couple it with some exercise. Do note that when you're more active, you build muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, so don't get discouraged by thinking you're not improving. This is one reason why it's not good to obsess over losing weight. Some people get boggled down by the numbers and don't realize the benefits they've reaped. Keep track of what you're eating, the exercises you're doing, and any weight or inches loss. This way you can watch your progress. Becoming healthier is not an overnight process. It takes time.

Good luck and take care of yourself. ^^

Okay from what little I know of vegetarians due to having friends that are, you still need to get a protein substitute like soy or beans..are you the kind that won't eat eggs either? I know some do eat eggs despite being a vegetarian..some don't even drink milk which is why I said soy as a choice due to it is substituted for milk..don't know on the tofu due to to me it is gross even if that thing was soaked in sauce for a half hour. (I myself am not a vegetarian)..though I've always wanted to try soy milk.

Hopefully from what other could tell you so far you can get things figured out ^_^

Um, no, that's not healthy. You need all kinds of types of food with all kinds of nutrition.
Especially if you're still growing, then you need those vitamins and minerals much more than an adult would.

As someone else said, it's bad to get less than 1200 calories. I'm veggie too, and I just generally don't eat much, so it does happen sometimes (yesterday, I think I only reached 800) and I can see it. My body's not happy, I feel tired and weak, those veins on the back of my hands are really showing, but I'm just too lazy to eat. x3

A-Anyway, eating too few calories, especially while dieting, will have the opposite effect of what you want. Your body will think it's starving and it will hold onto that fat for dear life. And, you'll get cravings, I know if I eat hardly anything for a day, I wanna go pick up some Carvel.

As you are a vegetarian, it's very easy to consume the right amount of calories, so long as you avoid the junk, you should be pretty much set for weight loss. And, if you want to lose more weight, drink tea instead of water. Tea vamps your metabolism, especially caffeinated ones like green and black, and you'll burn even more calories just sitting around. Just don't have too much, you'll have to pee every other minute if you do.
