What memories destroyed your food?
Warning: If you are eating something, put it down before reading this topic. It's probably going to make you lose your appetite. :XD
I love bananas. I used to eat them all the time. I bought a couple of them while my girlfriend was here last month, and put them out on the kitchen table for anyone to eat. No one did, so they started getting old. I was going to throw them out when I realized they smelled really bad too. I knew bananas get browned when they get old....but these were black. Upon picking them up, I was attacked by fruit flies. Fruit flies had nested inside the bananas and bred  It was so gross! Every time I eat a a banana now, even fresh ones, I start to remember that and then I can't eat anymore. |
I have to say, one thing that has been permanantly destroyed for me is rice pudding. My grandma usually makes amazing rice pudding with rasins and sultanas in it, and it was seriously one of the nicest puddings ever. But then one day I was about to go and grab myself when I saw the weirdest shaped rasin ever. So I went and had a little prod about with the spoon and saw that the rasin was actually a dead housefly. That made me sick.
Never again could I eat rice pudding D: |
Ewwwww >~< Flies are so annoying, especially when you're eating. We had bad flies at my dad's (because my stepbrothers always left the damn door open  ) so it seemed every time I drank a pop one would get inside it. We ended up having to get something to put over our pop just in case. :gonk:

Oh gxd, that must have been terrible. xDD
Huh. I can't really think of anything like that off the top of my head, tbh. btw hi Pweep! It's me ChibiLady. :D |
the only thing that has ever really turned me off of a food is throwing it up and tasted it during that. YUCK!!! that has happened to me with Arby's roast beef samwiches, apple pie, and this really good trail mix my mom got for me. i really hate it when that happens cuz it usually happens with some food that i used to really like!

Ugh, I know, flies are disgusting. My grandma's house is riddled with them. I remember once she had a plate of sausages sitting out, and I was going to make a sandwich with them, and there was all these fly eggs on them. *shudder*
Flies are a menace :illgetu: |
Dunkin' Donut's er... doughnuts. I've been getting increasingly strict with my vegetarianism, and it turns out they have a tiny, tiny bit of I believe it's called L-Cysteine, which in their case, is derived from goose or duck feathers, whereas it's normally fermented for breads. But... it's a tiny bit and they're delicious and maybe they've switched to fermentation recently and I just haven't heard and... D:

There's a few things.
1. Tomatoes. I love tomatoes and I still do. BUT. One time I bit into this tomato, looked at it after I swallowed the piece in my mouth and it was this white....thing. It looked like a grub. <_< 2. Apples. This didn't put me off too much but a girl that was eating an apple opened her mouth and ugh...I'm not going to describe it, but people, EAT WITH YOUR MOUTH CLOSED. T_T" |
I'm a red-meat vegetarian, which basically means I only eat chicken and fish, and anyway I came to be that way because well... nacho mince doesn't taste so good when it comes up, and the smell of cooking rabbit made me hurl... literally.
|
Cranberries...was told that bugs live in them.
Eggs... had a hard boiled egg that was green on the inside. |
Pea soup... Got it force fed to me as a child. Never liked it since. Plus it kind of looks gross to begin with. Which is probably why I wouldn't eat it in the first place back then... And now I don't go near it unless it's being served as an appetizer at a wedding or something. I'd endure it if that was the case.

Uggg. I used to date this dude who was a HUGE chewer. I hated it but never said anything. We were taking a drive and I put my open soda down next to him and took a nap. He thought I was done with it and decided to spit inside it. Anyone taste that crap?! Yeah, you don't want to again! I took a swig and had to crawl out of the car to get sick. I still find it hard to look at Mountain Dew.... /shudder |
I can't really drink apple juice anymore cause i was feeling sick at work one day and decided that would be a good choice but no, it was not. Thankfully i worked outside ha. I can't eat mushrooms cause my grandma made me eat them when i was little and i ended up throwing up all over and then she made me clean up the mess
And I've also had a similar experience with mountain dew. I don't know why i'd reached for the can when i'd been drinking from a cup, habit i guess, but my mom had been using it for an ashtray and spit can. Yeah i couldn't drink any pop for a bit but i'm fine with them now |
It's not so much the memory as it is the experience itself, but when I was little, I used to eat broccoli all the time. Steamed, raw, you name it! I loved it best with cheese.
One time, though, I ate too much and I got really sick. Now the smell of broccoli (steamed) makes me gag a little. I definitely can't stomach the taste of it... orz It's so healthy, too. Cry. I don't like the Arizona watermelon juice cocktail drink anymore, because I stupidly reached for one of the cans and took a swig without checking first. I thought it had been where I'd last put my can, but apparently not. That one was so old it had fermented... I had already swallowed it by the time it registered and I spat the second mouthful out and did everything I could to get rid of the taste. Now I'm scared that any can I drink out of is going to be too old, and the smell turns me off of it. |
@coccyx: I had no idea that doughnuts contain an animal product. o.o I am never eating any again but maybe that's why they made me sick when I ate them. Seems like any time I accidentally eat anything with even a bit of animal products in it it makes me sick to my stomach. I don't get why they have to put animal products in things that do not need them. It is gross.
My food story, I went to a slaughter house, saw how it was worked and never ate meat again. I also accidentally ate guinea pig, which is actually good and tasted like a young game hen and I had no idea what "rocky mountain oysters" were and I ate those. That pretty much set me off from eating meat from there. It takes a lot to gross me out to the point where I am not going to eat certain foods. To me, if it tastes good, I eat it with the exception of anything that has animal products in it. |
For a while, I couldn't eat chicken because one night I decided to be a little Samaritan and help cook dinner. When I saw how to clean the chicken...from the inside out..I didn't have any that night or many nights to come.
I eat it now, but I feel weird when I eat it lol. I also don't like crabs anymore (which is ironic since I live in Maryland) because of how I ripped one apart one day when I was alone. And I noticed the eyes too, it was really nasty. I'll still eat crab legs because they're easier to eat and such, but I can't eat a regular crab. |
Hmm, I can't eat pizza anymore, or anything spicy OR tuna
I was having dinner with my family, and decided to eat a whole pizza. I ordered a tuna pizza since I absolutely adore seafood, and I decided to add a few drops of piri piri. For those who don't know, it's a spicy liquid that you put on food for flavoring. This one was extra strong, and I had no idea. I accidentally added a few too many drops, but thought this was a mild one, took one bite, and immediately, my eyes began to water. Just the taste of something spicy with fish makes me nautious, and I had a whole pizza to eat. Now, whenever I smell either pizza or tuna, I lose my appetite. It's not a really extreme story, but still, it was gross |
I made myself a great greek salad. And halfway through I see out of the corner of my eye something crawling on the lettuce. It was a huge ass beetle. I haven't had a salad yet, it was about a week ago. o_0.

I had a friend that used to explain how chickens die while we were eating chicken in school. I'm a vegetarian now. I can tell the stories if you like.??!!

All you people being grossed out because of bugs in your food need to grow a backbone ~_~;;
I've had ants in my cup of water, that I drank by accident. Ate part of a bee by accident because it was in the hot fudge that I poured on my icecream, had a fly in my baked beans, need I go on? Did I stop drinking water, eating beans and eating icecream? No! I went back into it the next day but I just checked to see if there were any bugs. I've even had food poisoning because of old chinese food....and I STILL eat chinese food! Jeeze louise people, come on! As for the OP's question. I sort of like Matzo Ball soup now, but my brother said it was made from sheep balls...mainly their fur/cotton/whatever rolled into a ball. I never believed it, but ever since he said it, I had an extra reason to not like the food. I also ate cow brains once when my mom tricked me into thinking it was chicken...it was yummy until she told me what it was and then I went to throw it up right away. Ewwww... |
Oh, and this one didn't last, but during Thanksgiving one year, I went to town on some deviled eggs. I love those things so hardcore. Anyway, I ate a dozen of them before I realized that... holy cow; I really shouldn't have done that. I felt so sick and like I was about to throw up for the better part an hour. Too rich for my belly to take. The smell made me nauseous and the sight made me filled with rage (for I could no longer eat the tasty treats).
After I was done feeling sick I went back for more. That sure didn't last long. xD I'm glad, because I love those things... but it ruined me from them for a short time. |
One day I was eating this mango watching cartoons.Everything was cool and I finished the mango. Then I went and at a blue berry muffin and my cousin showed me a picture of a blue waffle on his ps3. . .
i will never put mt face near ANYTHING blue EVER. . .EVER!!!!! |
When I was pregnant... I ate Chinese food almost every day. :/ Horrible, I know. Well... I am a huge fan of Chinese food, and my favorite used to be sweet and sour chicken. I'd pick up an order, and pig out. So, one of the times I was eating it, I choked on a piece of chicken that was covered in the sweet and sour sauce... and let me tell ya, that is NOT pleasant to choke on AT ALL. :[ It leaves this nasty taste left in your mouth, even after I brushed I could still taste it. I had to brush 5 times to get the taste gone, plus extra mouthwash. So, I couldn't eat it anymore after that. And, recently, I tried to eat some, couldn't even take a bite of it. I ended up giving the plate to my aunt and going back to the buffet to grab something else.
Another thing I have done... Is when I was little, around 5 or 6 years old, we had onion rings. I was sick with the flu, and the smell of them made me vomit. So now, if I ever smell onion rings, I get so sick to my stomach. :[ I've never gotten to taste onion rings before, either. And I'm a food lover, too, so it's a shame. I want to be a chef. ;P |
When I was younger and on a trip to Oregon my parents thought it a good idea to buy me a vanilla cone and parade me next to a fish factory. I vomited of course. Needless to say I still can't stomach the smell or taste of seafood, and vanilla is my least favorite flavors of ice cream.
