Right now I have insomnia.
I've sorta had it for the past few days.
Not really sure about what I can do to overcome it so I thought I'd come here and ask if anyone else has had or does have insomnia. Or about restless nights in general. Thoughts, stories, opinions. :|

I have had insomnia since I was five years old. Without over-dosing on sleep medication I'm not able to sleep for 4-5 days at a time. Makes for a very tired Nyvok and a whole load of migraines. Did I mention it was so much fun? -sarcasm- I don't like sleeping though, because whenever I do I end up having horrific nightmares.... -shutters-

I find that if I have something to eat a couple hours before bed, I will be up for a long time without even feeling tired. Also if I have somewhere to go to early in the morning, like my clinical placement at 5am. I wake up every hour. I guess I'm afraid that I will sleep through my alarm or something.

I have nights where I can't sleep and I have sleep apnea so I randomly wake up because of that and can't get back to sleep. I hate when I need to sleep but can't. Longest I went with no sleep is four days. It's common for me to at least go two days without sleep though.

I've been staying up later and later, and I don't know why. I just don't feel tired. I tried going to sleep at one a.m last night, but couldn't fall asleep until 3:45 am. I ended up switching over in my bed, and laying the opposite direction. Head where my feet usually is, because I just couldn't get comfortable otherwise. The worst part was that I had to be up at 4:30!

For a good half a year now, I've been having problems falling to sleep because of tons of issues (migraines, ear aches, jaw aches, allergies...) so my doctor prescribed me Ambien. I always do my best to sleep on my own, but it really helps on those nights where I just can't sleep. In my college Psychology textbook, there are actually some insomnia remedies/advice that might help. o:
Quote:
-Exercise Regularly but not in the late evening. (Late afternoon is best.)
-Avoid all caffeine after early afternoon, and avoid rich foods before bedtime. Instead, try a glass of milk which provides raw materials for the manufacture of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that facilitates sleep.
-Relax before bedtime, using dimmer light.
-Sleep on a regular schedule (rise at the same time every day, even after a restless night).
-Hide the clock face so you aren't tempted to check it repeatedly.
