What Do You Do?

Thought it might be fun to see what everyone does for work and/or studies in school. Also, what is your dream job (assuming you don't already have it!!).

I do facilities work for a technology company. I studied astronomy in school, but never graduated. My dream job is to own my own business: a wreck/salvage/scrap yard with a focus on recycling.

Draciolus 10-06-2010 09:52 PM

I went to school to get on the road to becoming a Chef. I graduated, and am currently unemployed trying to get a job that can help me get the hours I need to finish my apprenticeship.

As for my dream job, either my own restaurant or a catering service.

PWEEP 10-06-2010 09:57 PM

I am currently unemployed and I do not plan on continuing my education until I know I am financially stable enough to do so. My dream job would be a Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counselor, or Counselor's assistant. Both my parents were addicts while I was a child, but luckily (if you can call it lucky) now they're only alcoholics though my dad does smoke weed every now and then. I'd love to be an abuse counselor because I want to prove to the people that thought I'd fall into that lifestyle because it's what I grew up in. I made mistakes and I've learned from them, and I'm going to show everyone that they can to.

I am a student studying Computer Science. If all goes well I will work at Microsoft or Google. Maybe who knows were life will take me. I'm just keeping my mind open and seeing where the river of life flows.

Glitter Golgotha 10-06-2010 10:28 PM

I don't do anything at the moment. I'd like to make a career out of either cake decorating or pretty much anything Halloween-related, but I'm not really sure how likely that is. Currently, I'm in the process of applying for Disability. I wouldn't mind finding some sort of part-time job if I could in the meantime, but while I'm not giving up on the idea, I know better than to count on it. As for school, I don't plan to go back unless I've got a specific plan in mind. Right now, there are too many things that need to be done and put together first.

I work as a janitor. My dream job would to be a writer for comic books, or something in the videogame industry.

Codette 10-07-2010 02:57 AM

I'm a receptionist for my mothers new business. My dream job... I have so many, but all of them require years and years of school, that I know would drive me insane, and cause me to hate my chosen route.

Laila Izuka 10-07-2010 03:15 AM

I'm currently unemployed, though my dream job would either be a baker and owning my own business. Or being a professional artist focusing on the anime and manga field. I think that I might end up making sweets, since I have a knack at it >w>

Well I work part time at a gas station, on weekends, after school and stuff like that. There I run till, pump gas, stock products and dip the tanks as well as other clean up duties. I'm still attending high school for now taking top courses for English, Social, Chemistry, Biology and Math. I'm not %100 sure about what career I want to go into just yet or exactly what secondary schooling but I'm considering just taking a year at RDC of variety courses and a bit of upgrading. Then when I do decide on a career path and a university to get there it'll be easier to get into the university with more than just a high school diploma backing me up.

Currently, I am working at McDonald's. I just quit working for Playboy Energy so I needed a job quick. I plan on leaving McDonalds as soon as I can. I honestly hate it even though I really do try to like it. I just can't because of the people that work there. I went to school for communications but got into a car accident so I had to drop out then I started working at a PetSmart and stuck around there for three years and am having a hard time going back to school. I plan on opening my own aquatics/pet fish or reptile store eventually. I also am writing a book and going to write some children books as well.

Polarisld33 10-07-2010 03:22 PM

I hope to write some books, too. I'm not sure I'd want to make a career out of writing (I'm worried it would lose something for me if I did). It's such a bummer the economy is so bad all over the world right now :(. I wish I lived back in the late 1800's where everyone had a chance if they worked hard enough at it.

I do enjoy what I do now, though , and if facilities work ends up being my career for the rest of my life (or at least until I retire), I could be ok with that.

@RuneKitten: If you can land a job w/ Google, you'll have it made! They have manditoruy nap time, daily catored lunches, free on-site daycare, and a gym amongst other things. Their mentality is that if you make work a more enjoyable place to be than home, then the employees will start to spend more time at work. If I knew much of anything about computers, that's probably where I'd try to work.

Kaizy-Kat 10-07-2010 04:24 PM

I'm still in high school, so I take liberal arts courses. Since I go to a Catholic school, I also have to take religion.

Next year, I hope to be studying at. I'd love to be a photographer for National Geographic, but being a wedding photographer might be fun, too.

Mystic 10-07-2010 05:15 PM

I think I'd get bored if all I did was write for a living. I write what I want when I want to. I can't be forced to do it. I know I am going to write a book that sells millions though. =P

As for my store, as soon as I can get around 20-30K I am finding somewhere and opening it. I know I can be successful, it's just a matter of getting the supplies I need and the products in place.

Royal Knight 10-07-2010 05:39 PM

I'm a stay-at-home Mom and wife. I'm happy that way. I did want to become a doctor and find a cure for Tourettes Syndrome, which I have a mild case of. I dropped out of school in the 9th grade, got highly bored and my rapist 'fahter' wouldn't teach me unless I learned his way. I play my video games and write some stories in my notebooks. I'm a published poet tho so yay. But I guess I could say that I've got my dream job now. Being a mom and wife. :)

Kaylesha Blackheart 10-07-2010 07:13 PM

I work at Wal-Mart.

I play video games, draw, crochet and would like to have a career in one of those hobbies as a field.

Aspinou 10-07-2010 10:12 PM

I study (from home that is) at highschool level, just common socialstudies, history, english, religion and all that stuff. I used to go to a school with lots of courses in the area of international relations. Which I got very intrested in and wanted to work as maybe international mediator or something like that. But I left that dream when I got sick. Now my dream job would be to be an archeologist or some kind of museum work, which I have wanted to be for a long time.

rawcookiedough 10-07-2010 11:02 PM

I'm just finishing up high school right now.
And I've recently (literally today) realized that what I thought my dream job would be, massage therapist and personal trainer and registered dietitian, isn't what I want. So right now I'm looking. I kind of want a job/career that isn't necessarily customer focused. The search continues.

Cora 10-07-2010 11:10 PM

I also work at wal-mart, I run the craft department solo.

My major is in education/business.

Ishtar Terra 10-08-2010 01:33 PM

Well, currently three days a week I go to college, where I'm taking a course in hairdressing, which I love. Apart from that I also have a job that I love, though either way the job was a must to make ends meet. I teach street dancing, and every Wednesday I go to a local Primary school and have a session with the kids. It's great fun and a great work out.

After college I'm wanting to start my own business though, doing more...out there...hair styles. Bright colours and severe cuts are my love, just to add in that punk rock style look to ordinary people.

siaasgn 10-08-2010 05:34 PM

I'm a librarian - specifically a Children's Librarian but I help anyone that needs help that comes into my library.

I really love my job and am so glad I took the time to get my masters. Before I got the degree and the librarian job I was a department secretary at a university - the job was OK but not exactly fulfilling.

Polarisld33 10-08-2010 06:35 PM

I've heard Wal-Mart has more people in uniform than the US military does; in theory, Wal-Mart could take over America and there wouldn't mbe much of anything the military could do about it. Kinda scary, but at least if Wal-Mart ran the country, everything would be affordable :)

Sho-Shonojo 10-08-2010 06:58 PM

I currently work at Ross and am going to school to be an animator. I would love to work for Pixar or Disney. I'm also working on my own books/ comic books. It would be neat if those picked up but I'm not counting on it.

Polarisld33 10-08-2010 09:50 PM

Sho-Shonojo: Have you ever watched/heard of The Animation Show? If not, you definately should! It's a collection of animated shorts from various animators, including Mike Judge. There are 3 volumes and I think they're the greatest!

ALLYMOOSE 10-09-2010 06:44 AM

i'm still a student, but in my school we are in a year where you get frees (a lesson off) and if a teacher isn't in you get a free.
i want to do something with swimming (because i love it so much) like scuba diving or marinebiology.
but i also love coding and graphics, so if i ever go to university i'd like to take a course it that.

Vexatious~Venom 10-09-2010 01:19 PM

I'm still in high school just now, so I don't really do much to be perfectly honest. In January though I'll be looking for a job, shop work is what I'm hoping for. I wouldn't mind a clothes shop, but anything really.

Then after I finish my last two years in high school, well, one and a half now, Imma head to university. Dundee Of Abertay here I come!
