Newbie ~ Is a slang term for a novice or newcomer, or somebody inexperienced in any profession or activity. Contemporary use can particularly refer to a beginner or new user of computers, often concerning Internet activity, such as online gaming.
Noob ~ is used as a means of segregating them as less than the "elite," or even "normal," members of a group. In almost all uses of the word, it is considered an insult.

O...kay? Why'd this thought come about? Seems pretty random, doesn't seem to have much to discuss about it.
I'm confused.

I consider a newb someone new to something. Noobs are generally annoying, type text talk all the time, and yes, it is an insult but also true (from my point of view).

In my mind, a noob is someone who is new and is just plain annoying, not even bothering to try to learn about what they are new too, and are sometimes trolls. Or, in general, an idiot.
A newb is similar, but unlike a noob they at least TRY to learn and better them self.
Though at times, I call some people I am close to noobs just to annoy them or affectionately.

Nobody really cares if they're called a 'noob'. It just bugs people that they're sometimes mixed up.

I suppose than that a "Newb" could be refereed to as an Apprentice, in that they are new to something and wish to learn it from their more experienced peers? Where as a "noob" simply wishes to forge their own path with no regards to the common practice?

This has always irritated me on my games. People would use "newb" as an insult and it's like, what? Didn't newb derive from newbie as in new? And noob has always been used for dumbasses. Though neither even sound like an insult and I think noob is single handedly the most hilarious game-insult which ever came about. "N00B!" Wow, intimidating.

I never use the words Noob or Newb. If anything, I find myself correcting people most of the time for the sake of teasing the elitists. Besides, there are far more colorful words that can be used instead of Noob. Haha.

Regardless of definition, many internet goers tend to abuse the term "noob", especially gamers.
It's very bothersome at times.
And plain immature. :/
