What are the first things you notice when you meet someone new?
The first thing I notice when I mean someone new, is usually their skin color. Not that I mean anything racist like that, it's more just an "oh, I see that they are Asian, quite possibly Korean, not Japanese or Chinese descent."
And then I'll notice what they are wearing, and if they look dirty. If they speak and have a strong accent, I will quickly notice that, too. If we're very close to each other, and talking face to face, I will then notice their eyes. Eyes are very important for reading people, I think. They really are "windows to the soul." You can tell so many things just by looking at someone's eyes while they're talking or listening. So, what are the first things you notice about someone when you meet them? |
I notice accents pretty quickly, I have very strong feelings on accents (I either love them or hate them) so that is always a quick identification. However on looks alone I tend to notice hair and skin tone first, then look into the eyes and general appearance.

I always look at hair and eyes. Plus the way they laugh & talk. (:

Different occasions, different noticings...
I'm in a daze half the time so if I notice someone when I'm in the car or walking in a busy place, I notice them because something they're wearing something that catches my eye, usually--or the person is especially interesting in some way. Different things. Usually, when I see someone I think is attractive, it is because I immediately notice: 1) posture and level of comfort (self-esteem) 2) smile 3) body/what they're wearing/how they're wearing it If it's an average person, it's usually 1) what they're doing/how they're acting 2) what they're wearing or, 3) they look like someone else I know If it's a below-average looking person, it's usually 1) something they're wearing is hideous 2) an expression that is hideous 3) a particular gait, offensive gesture or action 4) unseemly girth (aka, they're extremely obese where they take up more than a sidewalk or park bench, or wear too-tight clothes). If I meet someone for the first time (introduced), I immediately notice, pretty much in-order 1) Overall personality (comfort, smile, posture, friendliness) through eyes, tone of voice, smile or not, etc... 2) beauty of smile (or not) -- not talking about teeth, but how people smile--with their eyes and mouths--is very telling to me 3) their level of interest in me (am I boring, interesting, etc) 4) height (always in relation to mine) 5) how attractive they are to me (men and women alike), mostly in the facial features. (usually I am too close to notice or care about physique or what they're wearing, unless it shows on their face--overweight or very skinny) I kinda notice eye color/eye color/skin color, but mostly I just register if they're attractive/bright people or ugly/dull people, and then when a friend asks "well, what did they look like?" I fumble over the details, say something like "I think he had brown hair," even if I had been talking to the person for a half hour. It's been fun to notice what I notice! haha I can also never remember if people wear glasses or not, or their approximate ages. |
Hair is one of the things I usually notice first, as well as clothing. If the person has any particular distinguishing features (like really wide eyes or a big nose), I'll notice that right away, too. Then there's the race/skin color, and the person's mannerisms. Once I get an idea of what kind of person it is, I start noticing the smaller details like eye color and teeth and things like that. I don't usually look people in the eye, though, so facial expressions are often among the last things to be picked up on. I tend to get an idea of their demeanor more by their tone and habits.

When i first meet people i register their face, then if they are smiling or not (because i really think if you smile when you meet somebody you're already off to a good start), if we're close to each other i'll notice their body heat, then i'll gradually take in appearance starting with skin color then working out/downward. eventually i'll get to their clothes, noticing any type of labeling on their shirts/pants/shoes, then how ragged they look and if they're clean shaven or not.
this is how i look at people the first time, and each time i meet them... people's faces fade from my memory, but not their names so its likely i would have to look at you closely if i hadn't seen you for a while. |
First thing I notice about people is definitely their appearance, usually hygeine-wise. And their smiles, I don't know why, it's just something that sticks out to me. I guess it's likely because I've got some insecurities about my teeth. Hah.
First thing I notice after actually interacting with a person is the way they talk, like the attitude in their voice and the way they word things. Not to mention the types of things they share with a stranger, to me that says a lot about a persons character. |
....for Sora, it would be the hair.
Sora's one of those people that believe that you can tell a lot about a person by their hairz. probably wrong, but meh XDD |
Eyes. Hair. Smile. If I'm behind someone, I see their hair. If I'm walking past someone, it's their smile. And when face to face, it's their eyes. I also tend to look at their style.
Oh, scent! I smell people, too. XD |
Their eyebrows! I dont' know why but my eyes automatically go to the other person's eyebrows. After that though I guess I notice just basic hygiene like if they've washed their hair, have old make up on their face, or smell.
|
For me, it's definately their hair. If they don't tend to their hair, then that says volumes to me. Next would be their eyes, lips, and face shape. If it's a guy, then it'd be his body.
|
I usually notice how they speak and their eyes, and when i say how they speak, i do not mean accents, although I do love them, i notice if they ca actually formulate a sentence, or if all they wish to say is you wat up...
|
I always seem to notice clothes first, just to see what type of person they are. Then I look at hair and facial expressions, noticing if they're smiling and happy or if they have shifty eyes and appear nervous. Umm...How they speak comes after that. :)
|
well when i first meet a person i would say skin color also but im not going to count that so yea. First thin i notice is there face like eyes, and hair then cloths and if we are talking accent.
|
First thing I notice is their eyes, then their smile if they are smiling for one.
|
I see their eyes. Although, with my partner it was what a lovely bright smile he had. :)
|
I notice skin-color first, usually. I'm not racist or anything, I just notice it first. Depending on the person, I then notice different aspects of their face (whether that be lips, eyes, nose, etc...). I don't look into people's eyes often. >.> I'm not entirely sure why. I notice their voice next. The way they speak and laugh. I think after that is when I notice their eyes. That's about what I notice. Usually before all of this, I notice what they're wearing, but that's if they're coming to me from across a room or something. If I get a tap on the shoulder, I don't really have time to notice their clothes. >.> I try not to zero-in on it.
|
Their eyes. The eyes are that window to the soul.
|
Tattoos and piercings then it's everything else. I love them. How kept they are. If they're dirty then I normally am grossed out depending on how bad it is. After that I look at eyes. If someone has eyes that stand out that's what I notice.
|
I notice their hair, then their clothes, the way they speak, their body language, etc...I notice the eyes, a lot, too.
|
I generally look a person up and down, and notice their clothing (because I believe that the way a person dresses tells you a LOT about their influences and who they are/want to be), and then their skin color. I love extremely pale skin, so I'm always trying to match that, lol. Then I look at the face. I'd like to say that I look at the eyes...but I think I actually look at the nose and the lips first. I think that distinct, crooked, or straight noses, are extremely attractive...no idea why. I've always had a thing for the way that lips curve in a smile, too, so I'm constantly looking at them. (I'm an artist...give me a break, lol) Then...then I look at the eyes. If you have a pair of eyes that are a...not necessarily "unique," but a color that I find interesting...I'll stare at them for literally hours...and you won't bloody well know I'm doing it. I'm a bit of a creeper. I just love imagining the mind behind them, I suppose. Any eyes, really. I'm a sucker for a sweet smile and eyes that I can lose myself in.

The first thing I look at on girls is hair. Hair is extremely important to me. Then boobs, then back to eyes and mouth.
The first thing I notice on guys is how they're dress. |
The first thing I notice about a girl is usually what top she is wearing and then her hair color.
On guys I usually notice their face, their hair and then their eyes. |
Coulda sworn I posted in here before...oh well.
Anyways, what I notice first depends on how I first see them. For instance, if I see them from behind first, before even speaking, I will probably(more often than not with girls) notice their curves. Now, being a single male, that is just something normal....please stop looking at me like that. But if its from the front, usually skin colour/height. I try to find people that make me feel short, and when that happens, I regret it because then I feel like a dwarf. And like Monstahh said, Im not racist, Im always curious about where people come from...and hope that if we become friends, that they can teach me some cuisine from their homeland if they imigrated here. :D |
I tend to pick up on body language however if we're talking physical traits...
Walking towards me, I tend to notice their posture, clues you in to how confident they are and such. Their lips, neck (I like nice necks), shoulders (nice broad shoulders get me every time), and arms because I like them big and beefy. Walking away from me, I definitely take a gander at asses. I like me a nice one that I can grab *creepy eyebrow wiggle* And again, nice broad shoulders kill me. Now if we actually talk then I pay close attention to body language (I can't help it, I observe people) and their word choice/vocabulary (it can say a lot about intelligence depending on the conversation). I'm also a stickler for how close people get to me as I dislike having my personal space invaded by strangers unless I'm at a concert - then I don't give a shit. |
