Yeah. Very graceful, beautiful creatures. It would be amazing to work at a place like Sea World some day. :)

I don't like them very much.
But that's because I had a weird dream one time where I was a penguin being chased by one of them. Ended with me launching my penguiny self out of the water towards land, and the Orca launching itself out right behind me with its jaws wide open. Thankfully my alarm clock went off, or I could have been a gonner.
Kind of hard to like something that was about to eat me. Even if it was just in a dream.

Hey, Sundial: why don't you tell people what orcas are in your first post, for people who don't know. :)

I think orca whales are pretty cool, actually. I've gotten to pet one. :D Go Sea World (kindof).
I'm sad that they have the nickname killer whale though. :(
I'm also sad that that trainer at Sea World was killed a while ago. You really shouldn't keep perfectly healthy animals in a giant tank just for amusement. :sweat:
It's one thing if they can't survive in the wild though, but a lot of those whales are healthy. >__ >

I can't stand it when people try to tell me that orcas are whales. They're not whales for crying out loud, they're dolphins! Ugh! :gonk:

I have never heard them called orca whales. I've heard killer whales, but not orca whales. Just... orcas. After the latin name, of course.

Yes, whale sharks are sharks, that was her point. :P Not everything called a whale is necessarily a whale..

That being said, 'whale' is a broad spectrum...
Orcas are part of the Odontoceti suborder. :)

I never cared for them much. First time I saw them on TV as a child, I was appalled to see them tossing around a little seal before killing and eating it. It stuck in my head, and all I ever see them do in documentaries and such is kill things in cruel ways...
And before anyone says anything, yes, I know that's life and they have to eat and blah blah. And I really like other animals that do the same thing. It's just one of those things that stuck in my head and never really left, same as with polar bears (though I like them a bit more than orcas because they're still adorable). I never really thought orcas were all that cute, and them being so popular didn't help. It made me grow tired of them. :P
So I don't hate them or even really dislike them, but they're far from my list of favorite animals.

Killer whales are killer AWESOME. Like how some species of dolphin starve the females during mating season until they're too weak to protect themselves from males, killer whales remind us that animals are not peaceful and cuddly just because they look cute. They, like most of the animal kingdom, are actually kind of dicks.

They are very beautiful creatures.
But I thought they were nice animals that didn't eat other animals, until I saw Happy Feet. :<

But I didn't say they were a whale, I just called them by the name I knew them as, "orca whaaaales"

I love Orcas, they are very beautiful. I used to be obsessed with 'Free Willy' when I was a kid and even had a stuffed animal.

i myself prefer narwhals, orca's never really interested me because of free willy. i thought it was boring :\

narwhals though... they're the jedi's of the sea!

I like orcas :) I like most sea mammals anyway. They are like black and white and tongues XD Very cute.
