Hermes wins my undying appreciation just for that comment.
monstahh: See, that's what I was thinking. I tried to be straight once and I was miserable. I didn't try to kill myself, but I certainly thought about it once or twice because I was frustrated with how awkward I was. So you can either be miserable by trying to fit in, or you can be miserable without trying to fit in. THAT is a choice. NOT sexuality. |
Trust me, Herodotus was dull until he described the army of Lesbians.
I was like Whut Then I was like :) |
*pops in*
Herodotus is not dull!!! But with that said, let's try to stay on topic here. I'm glad you guys are having fun now, but some of this stuff might be worth creating new threads for. ;) |

I don't believe in God. So why shouldn't I be allowed to marry the love of my life? Because a church I do not believe in says so? Ever heard of Separation of Church and State? You should look that up. My being a homosexual and getting married no way effects your life in a negative way. Me kissing my girlfriend in your presence won't send you to the non-existent hell. It's time to let ignorance go. EDIT: Here. I did it for you. click Quote:
And, if you want to continue the whole Bible thing: Quote:
Doesn't it also say things like a father can sell his daughter? If you work on a Sunday, you should die? I wouldn't know. I've never read it. Quote:
Don't take the Bible so literally. Enough edits. This post is done. |
I don't like it when couples of any kind kiss and make out in public. In the end, I don't care that much about lesbians though I get mildly annoyed when they demand that the government recognize their marriages so that they could get tax cuts and all that jazz that straight couples do. Because really, unless they adopted children and are serious about setting up a family, then they don't need it. Besides, Obama needs to send government funds to education. I'm still using ancient box computers in high school and its slow pace is driving me nuts.

I would have to say I agree with Crimson. For me the whole debate about marriage is about two things. Dignity and benefits. Right now I don't think they're truly giving alternative couples either of those fully.
Also, is alternative couples offensive? It sounds like it might be. |

I decide whether or not I like people based on their personalities, not their sexualities.

Let us replace "homosexuals" with "the homeless" for a minute. Many people would believe that someone who is homeless is in such a state because of their sins: disobedient to their parents, drug addictions, gambling, unfaithfulness. But how many homeless shelters are run by churches? And of those church-run shelters, how many of them force their tenants to attend Mass every Sunday? They don't do it to convert the sinners to Christ. They do it because they genuinely want to help. They do it because they are so filled with the love of their Saviour that they just want to be charitable. These, to me, are good Christians. And in the same light, Christians who befriend homosexuals with no intent to convert them are doing God's work, just like missionaries to the homeless with no intent to convert are doing God's work. Using religion to support an argument where the majority of your audience isn't religious is like comparing apples and eggs. You can't go to a hell you don't believe in. Not to be rude against those who are religious, but to those of us who aren't its like quoting the opinion of an imaginary friend. Your argument is invalid. Quote:
As far as tax cuts go, some of us would benefit from them. I work at Walmart. I make 8.50 an hour. Sometimes I only work ten hours a week. We're on food stamps and can still hardly make ends meet. Because of Indiana laws, if someone finds out that I'm gay and they don't like it, I can lose my job. Just because we don't have children doesn't mean we don't have the struggle. But that is not why I want to have the right to be married. As an American, I am guaranteed Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. However, because of the opinions of the people in the town that I live in, my job is under threat of termination, my life is under threat by people who feel that I am going to Hell. I am denied the simple social liberties of marriage, divorce, adoption. My pursuit of happiness is a complete dead-end. I want to have marriage rights because I refuse to be a second-class citizen based on who I love. Obama is only one man. When it comes to where funding goes, the bill has to be passed through Congress. He does have the final signoff on where funding goes, but it has to get to him first. Then, if he does send more funding to the schools, its a matter of local government whether or not the funding goes to pay for new computers, better lunch meals, or to pay the wages of the horribly underpaid teaching staff. When I was in high school, we had CRT monitors. If I needed to do research on something and needed a faster computer, I went elsewhere. Like the public library. Some libraries will let you use a loaner laptop. Or I asked a friend if I could use their computer. Or... honestly, I would go looking in a book. Books are awesome. It was generally a stupid idea to be using the school computers for anything other than research. |

Honestly? Lesbians sometimes make me feel really uncomfortable. Maybe I just happen to run into the wrong ones, but..many experiences I've had where they mistake me for one and assume they can invade my personal space and/or get physical with me in ways I'd prefer not to. More than one's left with a black eye. <3 But that's not to say that I won't treat a lesbian the same way I would a straight chick. I've found a couple lesbian girls that I can get along with- one of them I work with....she swears she'll take me to a club, I'm like..."no way. ><"( I hate clubs.) Ahem. I don't have any real opinion, but I much prefer being around gay guys than lezzies. They don't try to molest me?
|
That kind of amused me. I have only had a few lesbians hit on me, and it was to get a rise out of me or because... well... she's my girlfriend. Seems like a personality thing to me. xD
I do not get along well with flamboyently gay men. Our personalities just don't mesh well. Or maybe its because my current roommate who is quite unsubtle about his sexuality (at all) has been mooching off of me for a year. Could be either. >____> |
I must ask?
Why would you post a thread like this? I am not really sure there is a reason to question people as to what their opinion is towards lesbians is? I kind of find it a little offensive, I am not a lesbian myself, but what have you got against them to make a thread like this? |
Quote:
Besides, I find flamboyancy grating, regardless of if we're talking about the 'gay' kind or not. |
LESBIANS!!!!!
... I mean, yeah. I got a few friends who are lesbian. One of my CLOSEST friends is a lesbian. I may not be, but you know what? I still love her, she's been my friend since the fourth grade, ten years later we still catch up with coffee and gossip. It's not that she's a lesbian that makes me like her, it's WHO SHE IS. I could care less who she liked, as long as they treated her well. So what I'm saying is that I don't CARE if someone is gay or straight or genderqueer or whatever they identify as, I don't. I really don't care about that. What I care about is the person, who they are, how they treat others. If I find a person grating, it's because of their personality not their lifestyle choices. Take my life motto: If you're happy, then I'm happy for you, so long as you didn't hurt anybody in the process. |
@PrincessBane-
I imagine a fair amount of it comes from the fact that one can not readily look at a person and identify their sexuality. As such of the few times I have been able to recognize a male is into males most have been when they have been making advances on me. In one instance this irritated me a lot, as they were aware I was in a relationship at the time. Also I was still very innocent when it comes to sexual things. So them sending me texts detailing what they wanted to do was quite upsetting. Although my point is, that I am sure I have met many others and been oblivious to it. |

@Hyena- Lol I love flamboyant gay guys...I have a friend who's one and like...he came over to my workplace and he was like "HEEEY RAAVEEEENNNN....I LUUUUVV YEEEWW..." And I was like..."I LUV YEW TOOOO" And it was funny because he was shouting this over the heads of several older peoples, while wearing a purple bandanna and all sorts of odd clothings... |
Quote:
Try not to find it offensive, because all I wanted to see is what people think about them. This has turned into some kind of riot over me asking a few other people what their opinions on Lesbians are. /x |
@PrincessBane-
My point was more that until someone does something overt enough to bring attention to the detail that they are a lesbian, it is easy enough to be oblivious to that feature of them. However I acknowledge your point that public perception of you being a lesbian yourself, and apparently a desirable one at that, renders my point less valid for your particular circumstance. Oh and on the point of people misrepresenting your sexuality, I can totally empathize with you on that. |
