School. Some of us hate it. Some of us like it. Some of us just shrug our shoulders and get on the bus without a second thought. I'd like to know what you think about it.

I despise that place. It tried to change me and 'fix' me. I've decided I'm allergic to it. >.> Seriously, I got sick every three to four weeks. Not intentionally, mind you. I know that if I hadn't been pulled out and homeschooled this year, I would've been mouthing off to teachers, sticking up my middle finger, and not giving a crap about my grades, or anything. Honestly, I have no desire to be politically correct around them. Listen to Taylor Swift's 'Mean' and 'Better than Revenge' and you'll hear all my feelings towards school. I mean, I know that I'd be a totally different person if I never went to school, and I like who I am, but I lost all my respect for that institution the minute it tried to control me. I know that there will always be memories that I treasure from school days (that's how I met my best friends), but I really can't stand that place. I go there about once a week for a club to see my friends, and that's it.

But what about you guys? I know that not all people loathe school like I do. I'd like to hear your opinions on the institution that is apparently in charge of education. Do you like school? Are you just along for the ride? Are you already in college? What do you think?

I hated my school. I was bullied really badly and teased and badly taught. Turns out i learned differently to everyone else and therefore needed a little longer for things to get through my head.

But Uni on the other hand was fabulous! I loved every second and would do anything to go back and do it again. (With everything i know now, of course ;) )

Thankfully I'm done with institutionalised education now.
I loathed school from about 5th grade onwards.
I just didn't find it mentally stimulating very often. I'd sit there watching the clock and just waiting for it to get to 3:15 so I could get out of there. I'm not the smartest person out there, but I need to be challenged in order to learn. I need to challenge too. Discussing stuff, analyzing it, questioning it, that's how I learn.
Just sitting there and having someone talk at me... just doesn't work at all.
I only found English Lit. Psychology and languages interesting, and enjoyable, as I had excellent teachers and we'd not just be presented with facts to memorise, but we'd be encouraged to go deeper and figure out things for ourselves.
The other subjects were just very basic and taught in the worst possible ways. Math and Science were just hellishly painful to sit through. I'd watch the seconds drag by on the clock, just wishing I was anywhere else but there.

I really didn't have time for any of the people I was in school with. They were incredibly shallow and spent all their time talking about looks, fashion or sports ...stuff that I wasn't interested in at all. Most of them were from very wealthy families and were spoilt brats.
I went through the motions, smiling, being polite, talking when I had to... but there was no real connection with any of them. We were from differnet worlds and I was quite happy not being part of their world.
I graduated and never kept in contact with a single one of them.

@Chaotic Eris - :( I'm sorry. I know how that feels. >.> Huh. From what I've heard, it seems that College is much better than grade-school. Everyone I talked to about it says that it's better. ^^

@Ebil - Wow... I learn a similar way. >.> It's so annoying when teachers just talk at you and expect you to learn from that. I know how you feel with Math and Science. @[email protected] It's especially hard with kids that won't shut up... I know how you feel about the classmates too. >.> Most of the kids in my classes were stuck up airheads. I couldn't really talk to them cause I didn't have a lot of things in common with them, because they talked about that stuff, and like you, I didn't really appreciate those topics. And I haven't been in contact with any of them as well... :( I'm sorry that you had such a rough time...

Personally, I absolutely love school. I'm now a freshman in college, and I have to say that college is way better than grade school.

High School: Well, it kind of sucked. I mean, the teachers were great; at my first high school, I had great teachers and great classes, but when I transferred schools the new teachers were horrible. They hardly knew the subject they were teaching, so I had to learn straight from the textbooks. But the thing I hated most in high school was having to deal with kids my age. I really had trouble dealing with teenagers because all they ever talked about was drugs, sex, and booze and I got tired of hearing all that crap day in and day out. I felt like my brain was melting every time I'd hear their conversations.

College: So far, it's amazing. The classes are fairly challenging and the teachers actually know what they're talking about. I love it. c: I'm looking forward to transferring to a 4-year university.

Aside from that, I love the experience of learning new things. Every class opens my eyes to the world and I just feel so great and enlightened. I think I'll continue attending school until I die; I just love education that much.

High school sucked, college sucked.
High school is basically babysitting and teaching pointless information to kids who don't care and don't want to learn.
College is babysitting for kids who are still just as emotionally immature and childish and petty as high school, but they are supposed to be actually interested in college.
But most kids really aren't and don't give a fuck.

If I can avoid it, I never want to go back to school and get a degree.
But I probably will have to.
Sadly.

I was in the public school system from Pre-k through 6th grade, home schooled for 7th and 8th-12th I went to a Christian school.

I hate public school for as long as I can remember. I was taunted terribly for everything from my short statue, weight (i've been underweight my whole life... I have growing issues), my teeth, braces, glasses, to my clothes. In 6th grade I ended up coming home with terrible headaches which would leave me screaming for HOURS. Nothing would relieve them and screaming was my way of dealing with them. My mom took me to the doctor and the first thing he asked after the MRI was "Is she being picked on in school?".

My sister was having issues in school as well. She wouldn't pay attention and got bad grades because she hated putting the effort in. My mom decided to home school us. It lasted for one year since she tried making it like normal school. She wanted to keep me home schooled but I begged to go to private with my sister so she just sent all three of us there. I loved going to private school. I liked the teachers because they actually cared and were so nice. I often confided in my world history teacher. While I was still terrible at math by the end; it greatly improved.

I liked college, although I didn't go away to college. I liked choosing my classes and picking something interesting. My favorites were always the literature classes. Nothing was going to make me enjoy math class though... or science.

hmmm lets see:
elementary school - hated
2nd elementary school - hated
middle school - REALLY hated
high school - hated
College - love it!

yea, Sora was picked on all through until college. at least in college, if you don't like somebody at least your grown-up enough to keep your mouth shut instead of doing immature things like rumors and such.
anyways, college has it's ups and downs, but Sora loves it for the most part.........Sora has NEVER had an anime class before XDD

I have to say that private schools are great. I attended one for half a year after Hurricane Katrina killed my house, and it was just amazing. All the teachers were nice and they really did care. I hated the strict dress code, but the small class sizes and teachers who live to help made up for it. :)

Oh yeah I hated the dress code and the uniforms we got later. It was worth it so I wouldn't be picked on anymore and have someone who would actually teach me math.

I hate it just like you, too. People at school are all ways trying to shove me into some box with all the other clone-slut girls who will grow up to amount to nothing. I however, am not a girl {Or a boy, so teachers can go suck on their bull shit when they try to separate "boys" from "girls"}
I tell my own opinion and tell people who get butt-hurt about it to fuck off. I honestly only go to school because I have to go to college, and I can't afford to go to private school. /:

It is mostly meh for me, I really would rather not be there but whatever, I get to see my friends and it gets me out of bed. There are a few classes that I like though. Ceramics is fun and the teacher is a stoner so we just do whatever we want in there, grab some clay and go. P.E. is ok too, I don't really like physical stuff but sports are ok, but it is really funny to just watch all the guys messing around when playing.

Everything else though I don't care for, I think the system is okish however it could be a lot better. So far I think school does not prepare kids for life nor does it really teach you what you want to know. You spend 3/4 of the year learning to take the test and the other quarter taking them.

Also they are really contradictive. Like I said they tell you that they are preparing you for the real world, but nothing you do in a class room is real world, they read you the book, and then baby sit you. They tell you that the sky is the limit and to be creative then chain you to your desk. They tell you school is a land of opportunities and choices, to choose what you want to do and learn about it... that is as long as it is math or english. You can do whatever you want, as long as it is in this square.

So yeah, I live with but I wish it could be more, I don't know, individualized. Treating the student as an individual, not as the whole of the student body.

This is coming from my experience in public, private, and charter schools.

@Amethyst Lavenlight - Well, I'm glad that you like education so much! :) And, don't get me wrong, I love to learn, I just hate the way that my school was doing it. ^^ From what you've said, I'll probably love college.

@monstahh`- Ah.... >.> Yeah. Public school is like a daycare center now. It's kinda sad. I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience in the school system.

@PixieSunBelle - I'm currently being homeschooled. I hate public school too, and have no intentions of going back. Your private school sounds pretty nice. ^^ I honestly didn't think that there were teachers left out there that were like that...

@YamiSora - Wow! An ANIME class?! :D That is awesome! May I ask which college this is?

@Benetnasch - Amen to that. ^^

@Flaming_triforce - Very, very good points there. >.> Kinda makes them look like hypocrites. I think if they acted a bit more 'out of the box' there would be a lot more people who would like school. We are individuals, not clones. ^^ It seems that a lot of schools try to control the students, or at least what they do... It's kind of sad, isn't it?

I've been pretty mad at school lately. >_>
I've been getting so much homework it's kind of ridiculous, and I haven't even been procrastinating! (Or very very little :/)

I like learning and all, but I just haaate homework, it's so tedious and annoying and it's not fun to me at all. Well...Except long division, I really like doing that for some reason, haha. Oh, and my math teacher is so incredibly boring that I can hardly pay attention in class. I just go to class so I'm marked as here, but I have to teach myself everything once I get home. Which is pretty easy, since I have this really awesome knack of just understanding things.
Plus if I don't I really only have to read it over a few times, maybe underline some important phrases, etc. Then I'm ready to get a B or higher on tests.

I wish I could have more exciting teachers, or not have a teacher for math at all, they're usually pretty boring, and for math since it's all just formulas and whatnot all I'd need is a math book and the list of homework to do.

Sadly.
Pretty much what I was going to say in a nutshell. With the exception of the art school I went to and the broadcasting school. I loved those schools mostly because people there did actually care since they were private colleges and there weren't kids just taking classes to "pass" or for fillers. Every class had something to do with the degree you were working at and they were fun! I just did not care for Television classes too much just because I hate being on camera. The classes were also hands on so I was constantly doing something instead of just sitting at a desk.

When I went to a "normal" college, I hated it because people would take classes and not care about them as long as they got the credit they needed. The teachers also were not nearly as interested in the subject they were teaching as they were in the private colleges.

I still do not want to go back to school but have to eventually because I do need a job that I enjoy and not one I'm just tolerating.

I used to think school was fun, then when it stopped being fun, I still enjoyed going just because it was a break from life at home and one of the few ways I ever got to spend time with my friends. Then even when I moved and had no friends at school, I liked being away from home--but hated almost everything else, except the rare good day in class. :/ So I guess "meh" most of the time.
