If your teeth are too fragile for biting/chewing, how about sucking on a lollipop or something?

There is also of course, the patch. If you don't know, it's just something that you stick to your skin and it deposits nicotine into your system. You can slowly decrease the amounts and that way you're still getting your fix while tackling the other side of things: what to do with your hands. Carry something around that you can fiddle with, something to keep your hands occupied without a cigarette. A pen, a coin, cards to shuffle, ect.

Stay away from the places you would normally go to smoke at. Take a different entrance into buildings you have to go to on a daily basis, stay away from smoking areas. Once you see somebody else lighting up, you're going to likely get that craving.

It'll take time and patience for yourself and everyone around you, but taking it one day at a time and breaking your usual routines should help! I for one, and rooting for you! Way to go!

And don't beat yourself up too hard about a relapse. It wouldn't be addicting if it wasn't hard to quit. Take the consequences and start the cycle of quitting again. Never give up until you're done!

No problem! I hope some of that will help you! I've been wanting my dad and brothers to quit for awhile now, but they won't try any of it v.v

I have no real tips for quitting, as I've never smoked.

But I wanted to wish you luck in this endeavor. Remember why you're wanting to quit every time you start to reach for one.
[edit] oh and just don't buy them. >.> It will also save money. woohoo!

Okay, all I have to say is keep trying....

My boyfriend has now stop smoking since may of last year but he stopped only because he got hospitalized for blood clots in the lungs!

If he didnt do an asthma crisis (he wasnt able to breathe well and they did exams to find in the end what he had waiting in the lungs), maybe he would have died.. cause the blood clots were ready to to move to the brain.

My advice, quit before something like that happens to you! ^^

I haven't smoked/don't smoke, but a few of my family members have/still are.

Those that have quit, they used Chantix. I know there's been some recent stuff surrounding this anti-smoking drug, but those that I know have quit would still have taken it regardless. The odd dreams was, really, the only problem they had -- that, and Chantix is uber expensive [I think it was around $150 a month]. But, still, what they paid for a month's supply, they are now saving that and MORE a year from getting cartons and packs of cigs.

Regardless of what path you go down and how to cope with the need to smoke right now, you can do it! Just look at your wife and kids and tell yourself that you are doing it for them. Also, you should be doing it for yourself as well, for many health reasons.

Maybe give yourself a reward for not smoking for a certain amount of time. Buying a favorite treat, going to the movies, etc?
You can also give negative reinforcements a try. Every time you smoke you can ground yourself, so to speak. Or you can simply wear a rubber band on your wrist and snap it every time you get the urge to light up?

Or perhaps you can find something to replace cigarettes? Candy (that you can suck on), video games to distract you, etc.

im gooing to deffinatly give the rubber band thing a try with me being fidity as it is im constantly doing things with my hands and fingers so a rubber band will be something extra and a somewhat self contained punishment if i try to go for one as well

Good for you :D I've never smoked, being 16 and all XD But my mom smoked for a long time, until she had a stroke and almost died D: (She's fine now though) I'm sorry I can't give advice, but Pepperment Tea helped my mom a lot. Quiting cold turkey is pretty hard as I've come to understand, but if you determined too, I'm sure you can do it :D My friend Magen and I are rooting for you! (She REALLY wanted to be mentioned XD)

Oh and btw, when and why did you start smoking? Just curious XD

I go to community college, and for whatever reason, EVERYONE there smokes. I have asthma, so I actually have to wear a mask while walking around the campus. The smog is that bad. My best friend uses e-cigs, though, and even got the bigger companies to advertise on campus.

E-cigarettes feel like real cigarettes, but they're flavored. They don't damage your lungs or the environment, because instead o inhaling smoke, you're inhaling harmless vapor. The initial kit is $60, which is expensive, but I did some math and if you're a hardcore smoker, it's actually cheaper to invest in one than to keep buying pack after pack of standard cigs. They also come in nicotine levels, from heavy to ultralight to even ones that have no nicotine at all, which is nice if you're trying to decrease the amount you're inhaling.

Best of all, you can use them anywhere - even inside restaurants - with no risk of secondhand smoke to anyone. They're harmless, and actually pretty yummy.

Here's the brand my friend uses: Electronic Cigarette by blu E Cigarette - Home

All the best, Good Luck on quitting. Believe in yoruself that you can do it. There are a lot of good tips here, guys! If I were to be going through this like you, I would definately try the 'E-Cigs' although I'm sure there are much less expensive - not electronic ones that you can get from a drugstore. That way you feel like you are smoking but you actually aren't. I think those would be good to help you start replacing the cigarettes with something very similar but unharmful.
