Yeah, I love when someone says "Your shirt's so cute!" and I get to tell them I paid $3 for it! But yeah, trying on things is so important, especially with thrift stores. Since it's from every store imaginable, you don't know what body type (or decade  ) it was designed for.

Eww! Well, I guess that's... an interesting choice for a bookmark? Reminds me of a site I stumbled across last night, Stuff In Books.

And while I'm at it, here are some other sites I found yesterday that are relevant to the thread: Thrift Horror and Weird Stuff I Have Found While Organizing (not all are SFW), because... well, it's not just treasures that live in thrift stores. Those sites gave me a good laugh, and I think I'm going to have to start taking my camera with me. I know I've seen some truly creepy figurines before.

Missouri buddies! *highfive*

Cherry, car boot sales are where people all drive to a particular spot on a certain day and set up a table and sell their tatt. They call them car boots here because initially that's just how people did it, sell stuff from the boot (trunk) of their car :)

HIM_ROCK 04-04-2011 08:54 AM

It's a yard sale in a field with loads of other people. You've just got to get there early to get some good stuffs or when they're setting up you launch yourself on them and get something good dirt cheep.

Ahh, I gotcha. That's actually pretty much what the twice-yearly flea market in my area is. Not sure about the weekly one I just found, though, I haven't been able to go yet. Woke up too late last Sunday.

Ah those links have some funny and weird items...bringing a camera is a great idea.
All this talk reminds me of the movie "The 40 Year old Virgin" where the kid tries to buy the goldfish boots in the ebay store. I know it is random, but oh well.

I remember once I found some antique, racist, mammy type of figurines at a small store in the Mid Rivers mall. It made me angry that they would have something like that...It was in a conservative/christian kind of store.:P

I like go to Good Will stores heck I found a rare Disney movie on vsh. even found some rare out of print Ty bean babies to bad the tag was fading out. once a year a toy store open's but by my big sister's house. she lives behind a outlet mall at that toy store around Christmas time it's open only. so my mom and my self went in there try find something my my nephew. we found nothing for him but I found 3 really rare Ty Bean Babies all of them still had there heart shape tag's on. I found a Princess Diana bear but did not get it I still don't know if it got sold.

Cherry Who? 04-13-2011 04:53 AM

Cherry Blossom - Hey, you must live pretty near me in the state, I've been to Mid Rivers mall. :) And wow, what store was that? I'll make a mental note to never go there.

Sailor Star - Do you collect Tys?

sailor star rainbow 04-13-2011 05:05 AM

Yes I mostly like to collect Cat Ty Bean Babies I got 32 one dog in the hole bunch.

JapaneseCherryBlossom 04-13-2011 04:01 PM

I feel you are close to me cherry, I am psychic lol. I don't really remember the store name, I just remember it was at the end of one of the halls...It had some country and christian looking crafts in it.

I need to get rid of a few beanie babies, but I didn't know people were still collecting them! I had some good times with those things.

Cherry Who? 04-13-2011 06:06 PM

Sailor star - Wow, that's a big collection! I've got tons of Tys upstairs in a box from when I was a kid. But some of the tags are bent, and some are just removed. Others are in pretty good condition, though. I think my favorites are the pastel rainbowy ones. Like this one, he's so cool. :D I like to put him on my head like a hat.

Cherry Blossom - Ah, well, I probably wouldn't go in there anyway; I normally just hit the clothing stores.

Have you been to Chesterfield mall? I've been going there more lately because they have an H&M. Oh, H&M. <3

HIM_ROCK 04-13-2011 06:24 PM

We bought a Cornish Pasty money box at a car booot just as you do. HIM likes Beanie Babies but the ones at chairty shops when they do appear don't have the tags and ones at car boots the people are asking stupid prices for them. HIM won't pay £5 for one no matter how limited edition it is.

JapaneseCherryBlossom 04-14-2011 03:27 AM

Cherry-I like to go to Rue21 at Mid Rivers the most, and there is a Maurices close to my house that has some good deals. I haven't gone to Chesterfield in a long time. This is probably due to my driving phobia that I'm trying to get over:roll:

I've never been to H&M, but the clothes look really cute from the images I googled.

Cherry Who? 04-14-2011 04:50 AM

HIM - I really hate it when you find something super cute/cool with a ridiculous price tag. :( I've had to walk away from so many things I really loved because the price was just completely not worth it.

Japanese - H&M's got some really nice stuff. They get some hideous, trendy pieces plenty, but there's always great pieces in there. What I love is that they're just perfect in the details. The shirts are nice and fitted without being TIGHT, they're really soft, thin (but not see-through), and there's so much thought put into every ounce of the design. Not one of those "Well, I'd love this if the neckline weren't so... if the sleeves were more... if the waist was..." Also, their prices are pretty nice for what you're getting. I hate paying $9 for a top, but there are some things you just can't find at Goodwill, and for those, I'll buy at H&M. It's my favorite store to buy new.

Hey, I'm terrified of driving, too. It's really fun as long as absolutely no one else is on the road. Then I'm thrown into a panic. The best thing you can do is just practice tons in smaller cities on back roads (preferably ones without squirrels... they have a death wish), and even if no one's around, try to imagine there are cars there, so you'll drive accordingly and get used to it, then slowly build up to faster and more populated roads. That was working pretty well for me, but when I found out I couldn't get my license because we couldn't afford to insure me, I just gave up.

I seriously LOVE Thrift stores, flea markets, and craigslist.

Between the three, you can find absolutely ANYTHING that you want/need, for extremely low prices.
They're so wonderful.
Hehe:3

::goes to play her Ps3 which she got off craigslist, in her clothes she got from thrift stores::
