Let Me Hear Your Accent!

I don't know about you guys, but I'm always curious about what everyone's accents are like. Chatting with you all online is great, but it's nothing compared to hearing your voices! What do you sound like? Do you have a cool accent? Do you pronounce your words all funny?

Today I ran into a meme that combines a couple of words that commonly change pronunciation depending on where you live, as well as some things that have quite a wide array of nicknames:

Quote:

Pronounce these words:

Advertisement, Aunt, Route, Caramel, New Orleans, Pecan, Again
Syrup, Supposedly, Probably, Perspire, Library, Espresso, Ask, Coupon, Coffee, Scone

Now answer these questions:

What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
Will you record your voice so that we can hear what you sound like and what kind of accent you have? Pleeeeeease?

Hop on over to Vocaroo to easily record yourself.

Melody 03-31-2011 01:46 AM

Drat. I need a better microphone. Mine is static-y every time I try!

Liztress 03-31-2011 01:49 AM

Also, I love how your voice sounds, Knerd. Very pretty!

Awww, if I was on my laptop I'd totally give this a try, so maybe later. I love your accent Knerd, and yours too Lizztress xD

Arkkath 03-31-2011 02:59 AM

Hmm this seems pretty interesting.
If I can find my mic I'll do a recording.
But just so you guys know, I'm from Quebec, Canada, although I don't have a french accent.
And as far as I know I don't have the cliche Canadian accent, but I dunno, maybe I do.
Oh and I have a pretty deep voice haha

Anaxilea 03-31-2011 03:41 AM

Oooh, fun! Here's mine :) It's fun to see the differences, even between Americans.
For the record, I'm 19, a college student, and like I say, have lived all over the U.S. xP

Sandy 03-31-2011 04:21 AM

I don't have a mic. Sorry. Feel lucky though. My voice stinks.

I'm from California. And I tend to just think that I have a plain ol' flat Californian accent. Nothing exotic at all. But I assume to other English speakers throughout the world, it may sound exotic. :P

What do you call your grandparents? Grama and Grampa

@Liztress ~ Hearing your voice it instantly put to mind Loretta Lynn. I don't think that's an insult, as she has a very pleasant voice. You as well. ;D

Aspinou 03-31-2011 08:09 AM

ok I'm so not gonnna do this, my accent is not pretty. I'm not native so I have a hard time pronouncing words at times . >.<
It's awesome to hear you guys though :D

edit: Though it could be fun... I'm gonna think about it.

Arkkath 03-31-2011 12:52 PM

Solou! A fellow french canadian! Awesome!

Thank you. And I don't take that as an insult. I like her voice. :) In fact, it's one of the better comparisons I've heard about my voice. I've gotten confused with my boyfriend's 13 year old nephew by his dad and grandfather. And a lot of people claim I sound like a 12 year old.

Vix Viral 03-31-2011 04:35 PM

I sound like a man

Vocaroo | Record and send voice emails

Good thing I didn't laugh :ninja:

Bauchle 03-31-2011 05:11 PM

Bauchle's Voice.

I really dislike my voice. >.> Also, I know I said I was from Scotland, but please don't expect a really strong Glaswegian accent, because as I live no-where near there, I do sound a lot different. xD

Aedmourne 03-31-2011 05:22 PM

My native accent is well...non-existant really, I have a bland, American accent, I come from Souther Oregon, and such an area (at least to my knowledge) is devoid of any particular defining atributes of speech. However...on the other hand I pride myself on the ability to fake accents, my personal favorite being Scottish, I can also do German, English (UK), Russian, Southern (USA), etc. The unfortunate problem is however, I don't possess an adiquete recording device.

x-cutie-x-pie-x 03-31-2011 08:31 PM

I have a weird voice, and sorry for sniffing all throughout, I think I have a bit of a cold coming on. D:

I am from south-east England. ^__^
Clicky clicky

Also, I sound like I'm saying 'Art' instead of 'Aunt'~ my bad. XD

LauLau 03-31-2011 09:05 PM

Okay, so I don't have a mic... I know.. *sad face*
But here's my answers to the questions... =D

3. Daddy long leg
4. Papa and Grandma
5. Shopping cart
6. Wooooh rainbow? xD
7. Channel changer...e_e

Mystic 03-31-2011 10:21 PM

Here

Explodey 03-31-2011 10:23 PM

I'm not even sure where to plug in a microphone. :/

lunanuova 03-31-2011 10:51 PM

I love these :) I think I may be too shy to record my own voice. I guess I don't talk a lot and don't know how my voice will sound. Some people do have really weird answers to what I think! You have a really nice voice, Bauchle! I think scottish accents are nicer on girls that have softer speech.
