What language do you know (or want to learn?)

to make it into a discussion...
What language would you like to learn or know?

I want to learn chinese, japanese, russian, and...german :3[/B]

Codette 04-04-2011 10:59 PM

I know it's Japanese, I recognize the characters (learnt it in high school) but I'm not sure what it says.

Pretty much all the languages I want to learn I already know a bit of. Including Japanese, Gaelic, Russian, Spanish, Italian, and Latin.

Oh okay! I thought it was chinese XD THANK YOU!
Now, I just need to know what it says :C

and Oooo~ Gaelic and Latin? I should add those to my list of languages I want to learn. ;w;

I'd like to learn Czech. My heritage and ancestors comes primarily from the Czech Republic (in Europe), and my girlfriend was born there (she moved to America when she was ten or so).

Her family speaks it fluently, and she often says cute little things to me in Czech which I think is adorable. All I know is Miluje te (without accents...can't figure them out  ) which means I love you.

I want to learn ancient Greek. Like, what Plato spoke. I don't think there are many people with that skill alive these days.

Zombierella 04-05-2011 12:44 AM

Mhm, it's definitely Japanese. :)

I want to learn all kinds of different languages. c; I currently don't know any other languages besides English. I wish my mom would've taught me a second language when I was young and my brain still soaked up information.

wasabiisweird 04-05-2011 01:15 AM

I do not even know what that says...

I speak French, it is my dominant language, and I know all English as well

I would love to learn Japanese and Italian and French though.!

Elluh 04-05-2011 01:21 AM

I know english, fluent in Spanish, a bit of french.

I want to learn Italian..it's such a beautiful language.

As for what that says.. I tilted my head but no luck :c

Explodey 04-05-2011 07:58 AM

I can ask my roomie what it says, she can read katakana and hiragana.

I want to learn a bit more Japanese, but I'd also like to learn VietNamese, as we actually have a VietNamese market here. We don't have any Japanese, excepting a few tourists, so learning Japanese is just a hobby, learning VietNamese would actually be practical.

I know a wee bit of a lot of languages- Spanish, Italian, French, Russian, Hungarian. Not enough to have a convo, but enough to find my way around if need be.

PumpkinSpark 04-05-2011 11:33 AM

I knew a tiny bit of Spanish and French. My whole family knows Hindi, even my 6 year old brother, but I don't. Even my friends know Hindi. I only speak English. And since my dad's a German language teacher, I think I'm gonna end up learning German. But I really wanted to learn French. But it's really difficult!

monstahh` 04-05-2011 11:37 AM

I speak very little french these days. But I'd like to get better at it, also possibly learn German and Japanese. * u* /loser

Projectwolfie 04-05-2011 04:17 PM

I've been in the process of learning Portuguese (european) for quite a while now. By now, I can read quite a bit of it, but speaking it is a different story. XD

one problem with that, only two characters are hiragana. The first 2, then the forth and fifth characters are kanji. The third character is the 'mi' sound, the last 'i' sound

NeuzaKC 04-05-2011 05:34 PM

I know Portuguese (NOT the brazillian kind) and obviously English. I know the smallest bit of French (reading), quite a bit of Spanish (from tourists, going to Spain, cartoons, all that sort), I can also read Italian and some Latin, but that's as far as I go. I was only taught English and French, though. The rest I learned by myself. As for learning, I'd love to learn Italian someday, and Latin. Maybe Japanese too, but eh. It's becoming so mainstream these days.

Aah, I have heard kanji is the hard part to learn. I know it's -from- written Chinese, but are Chinese kanji and Japanese kanji the same?

Kanji is really hard. One missing stroke can mean saying something completely different, and sometimes one kanji can have several meanings.

As for the differences between Chinese and Japanese, I'm not sure. I know Japan gained it's writing style from China, But I'm not sure how many kanji are similar, or which ones are...

x-cutie-x-pie-x 04-07-2011 06:17 PM

Japanese and Chinese have some characters which are shared, but pronounced differently. Japanese also has the hirigana and katakana.
I have also seen some variations of the Kanji in Japan which do not exist in Chinese. Sometimes, I believe that the Kanji in Japan would mean something completely different to the characters in Chinese. I'm not quite sure why...

I know Cantonese and English, with some Spanish, French and Mandarin. I would LOVE to be fluent in French. I also want to learn Japanese, Korean and Latin. I love languages~ the more the better!

Yugiohlover73 04-07-2011 06:28 PM

It's Japanese, I know that much, but I don't know what it says. I can get my friend Carly to look at it and see if she knows it.
Languages I've wanted to learn:
Japanese
Chinese
French
Spanish
German

zigbigadorlube 04-07-2011 06:44 PM

I'm fluent in French and I've taken German for two years. I took a bit of Latin too but I've forgotten most of it. The languages I most want to learn are Swedish and Japanese. ^_^

serena yuy 04-08-2011 01:09 AM

I of course speak English (mother tongue) but I know Spanish, and some Finnish.

Languages I want to learn:
I want to learn Finnish. I don't know, I just do. I like how it sounds.

Ashlyn Mae 04-08-2011 04:28 AM

I'd love to learn how to speak Japanese or any Chinese, that would be something to learn. Those are probably two of the hardest languages to learn outside of English.

Aganab 04-08-2011 11:58 AM

My mother tongue is Polish. I also speak English, which is quite obvious. This year I started learning Mandarin at school. I only know the very basics so far and I can't wait to learn more!

I want to learn how to speak Japanese, French, German and Italian. I once actually was learning French, but that was a few years and only lasted for about a year, so I only remember little of it. Something like five words. I wouldn't mind learning Spanish and Latin one day either, but they aren't what I want to learn the most.

I thought you already knew French, no?
x' D

And on subject, no, I'm sorry, I can't for the life of me understand that, at least not at this current time.
I was in the process of learning French though, I'd like to pick back up on my studies in college, and am currently in the process of learning Espanol.
:' )

Faulkner 04-09-2011 02:02 AM

Ich kann ein bisschen Deutsch.
/ I speak a little German

I'm half German

Narcotic Dreams 04-09-2011 02:33 PM

I'm sorry to say that I can't help you on the Japanese characters over there. However I would most likely love to finish my French studies and fully know the language. And possibly some other language that I'm not yet sure about.
