eh, not really~
I like to play it ONCE in a while though. (:

Easther_Bunni 04-30-2011 12:01 AM

Playing hockey is fun too :) Have you ever played on outdoor ice? It's awesome!

Dillo 04-30-2011 12:04 AM

Ya I have, build one in my backyard once!

colorsbold 04-30-2011 03:38 AM

Eeeeeps. Wings fans. Heh. So I like the Sharks. And Detroit and San Jose are playing right now! 3:00 left in the 2nd, and I kinda hope you guys lose. Sorry. ;)

Meh. But so far you're ahead. 1-0. Plfffft.

Let's all agree to be friends at the end of playoffs, 'kay?

By the way, we have noooooo ice in California's Bay Area. Well, none of the natural kind, although we keep a few centers of the man-made stuff. I've never played ice hockey. I have played street hockey, though, and I love it deeply. Despite the horrific bruising. Yum, hockey.

update for the first Sharks-Wings game...

MEEP! Those last two minutes had me jumping. Overtime next! Wooo!

Teh Toaster Basher 04-30-2011 11:18 PM

Eh, hockey's okay. But since I'm not a sports person, I do deem it far better than any other sport, at least. And since I'm from Vancouver, I'm going to say it right here and right now that the Canucks are going to win (although I really, really doubt that)!

Do not doubt the Canucks. Show them some love! Sure, Luongo kinda fell to pieces during games 4, 5, and 6, but he pulled it together in 7. And their defensive line is absolutely terrifying. Not to mention the Sedin twins and Kesler. And Bieksa. And Hansen. Yes, I am a Canucks fan through and through XD

Watching game two against the Nashville Preds right now and the Canucks are just driving the game. If they can keep this up they're definitely going to win it! As long as Luongo can hold it together and Schneider doesn't injure himself again, we've got this in the bag. Already planning my playoff party lol

Easther_Bunni 05-03-2011 07:56 PM

Fellow Vancouver people! Awesome! :D

Haha yeah, we have some excellent players. You forgot Burrows though! He scored some big goals recently :)

colorsbold 05-03-2011 09:52 PM

Pllllllbbbbt. :o

Have to miss the Wednesday game because I'm babysitting. Nyarg.

Could never forget Burrows! Raymond and Ehrhoff are pretty awesome as well. Hopefully Burrows will get us the first goal again tonight. And hopefully Luongo won't let a stupid goal in like last time. I don't think I've ever been so mad... But now they'll try harder this game! Now if the Sedins and Kesler could just get some goals... My dad and I decided that the Canucks need to get seventeen goals; six each for the Sedins and then another five for Kesler. I guess Burrows should get a couple as well. And maybe Bieksa for the hell of it.

@colorsbold - See if whoever you're babysitting likes hockey and then watch the game with them :P That's what I used to do when I had to babysit. They're very entertained by the moving pictures lol. God now I sound like a bad babysitter XD

colorsbold 05-04-2011 05:41 AM

@ Obsidian: Oh, I wish! If it were my little cousins, they'd love to watch the game with me. But I'm watching three kids outside of the family, and one of them is a three year old with a very, very short attention span. The reason they enjoy having me babysit is that I play games with them... and I'm watching them before they go to bed only. :|

Basically, I'd feel like the jerkiest jerk who ever was a jerk? Because I know they wouldn't enjoy it. They're really, really active little ones.

How do you guys feel about watching pre-recorded hockey?
I could record it on DVR, but it just isn't the same at all. To begin with, all of my friends text me during the game about what's going on... and it just feels odd not watching it real-time, you know?

What do you all think?

Obsidian Raven's Song 05-04-2011 06:02 AM

Aw man, that sucks. I used to have to babysit kids like that. It was fun for a while, until they started fighting over what they wanted to do next. Then it just got nuts. Yeah, I guess watching the hockey game with them wouldn't go over too well lol.

And I could never watch recorded hockey. For me, it's either watch it while it's happening or miss it altogether. As you said, people update you along the way so nothing is really a surprise, and it just doesn't have the same feel to it. You know it isn't live and you missed out on everything. To me it doesn't feel as real. It's more like watching a TV show or a movie than watching hockey.

Of course, the best way to see it is to actually be there. Finally went to my first NHL game back in February when the Canucks took on the Oilers. Best night of my life XD

YES! :)

Nothing beats in-game experience. That's actually how I got into hockey. My uncle took me to a game when I was 12. I brought along a book, just in case (ever been to a baseball game? I was thinking it was going to be like that). Completely ignored the book the entire time, and a new Sharks fan was born. :boogie:

Canucks. Did I mention that I am secretly afraid of you guys? I think our teams are going to end up playing each other in the Western Conference. knock on wood

Obsidian Raven's Song 05-05-2011 12:32 AM

I actually have not seen a baseball game (or anything other than hockey actually). I'm in Canada and baseball isn't as popular here. At least, not to my knowledge. I did grow up watching the Canucks play though. Most of my baby pictures consist of me sitting on the couch with my dad in my Canucks PJs watching them play.

Yeah it's looking like that will be the match up *cross fingers* I'd wish your team luck, but, you know, my Canucks shall never lose :P No hard feelings, of course.

colorsbold 05-05-2011 08:29 PM

:) No hard feelings!
Just so long as whoever wins the Western Conference takes the cup, right?

Sharks are 3-0 against the Wings right now!

Babysitting Vs. The Sharks, An Ongoing Saga
1. Missed the game last night because I was watching kids. There was a hat trick! It was a 4-3 win in overtime! Can't believe I missed that.
2. If we sweep (wooohoo!) I don't babysit on Sunday. If we don't sweep, I'm watching kids on Sunday while their parents go to the game. Might be able to watch it, though-- that particular set of kids love the Sharks, and their parents said that would be alright. :P
3. I watch kids all day tomorrow. The game starts at 4pm. My employer for tomorrow usually asks me to stay later than the original 4.30 we agree to. I'm allergic to saying no. The question: say, sure, you can come home at 5.30... or, insist that I have to leave by 4.30 so I can dash home and catch the end of the game? I wouldn't tell her it was because of the game, of course. But that's irresponsible... I could be earning cash otherwise.

Pffft. Boo, responsibilities, boo.

Obsidian Raven's Song 05-05-2011 11:42 PM

Yeah, I agree. Booooo, responsibilities. But... money. Sigh, decisions, decisions. Thankfully, I'm never in that boat. All the kids I used to babysit are old enough to watch themselves now. I do have a job though. Thankfully, my boss usually lets me put it on the radio, though the store I work at is only open later than six on Thursdays and Fridays so I don't typically have to worry about that. Thankfully I don't start there again until Monday.

It's currently 2-1 for the Canucks right now with the fourth game starting in just under an hour. Hopefully we'll win this one too! We were so close to having a sweep against the Blackhawks, at 3-0, then our goalie fell apart and we lost the next three games. Thankfully, he's back to kicking ass again. However, the Preds goalie is phenomenal. It's rather terrifying actually O.o But as long as Kesler, Burrows, the Sedin twins, and Luongo keep giving it everything, we'll be fine.

And yes, as long as someone from the western conference wins. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping the Canucks would win it though lol

Edit: WOOHOO! Salo's back! He was injured in game six against Chicago. This is gonna be awesome XD

Anaxilea 05-06-2011 12:40 AM

Oh... my god. WTF WINGS? *hockey fan rage at its best as she chucks netbook across the room... only not really, because she's in a silent lecture hall and people around her are testing D:*

Step your game up, home team! The sharks win this next match and it's all over!

colorsbold 05-06-2011 02:21 AM

@Obsidian: You guys are ahead! Wheee. End second. Think the Canucks will keep it. :D
And man, that was a rush at the end of the period.

I'm afraid of Ehrhoff.

@anaxilea: Aaaack! I want to wish you guys luck... but I really can't. Because then if we lose it's all my fault. As well as my friend's fault for shaving his Sharks Playoff Beard. knock on wood

You guys swept the last series, so this has got to be tough. I'm torn.

If we did sweep, that would feel pretty cool. To sweep is less satisfying as far as edge-of-your-seat action goes, but there's a certain happiness in sweeping. At the same time, I think it lets a team get out of practice for the next matchup, you know?

I'm not certain if sweeping is ever really good for a team.
What do you all think?

To sweep or not to sweep?
Do you prefer a nail-biting Game 7, or a clean 4?

Obsidian Raven's Song 05-06-2011 03:53 AM

We lost the lead. But then we got it back. And then got a two goal lead! Excuse me while I go do a happy dance.

Yeah, Ehrhoff is a beast. That goal he got was amazing. Actually, all the goals tonight were beautiful. Yes, even the two scored by Nashville, no matter how much I wish they hadn't gotten them. I think my favourite was the last one though where Henrik got an empty netter with twenty seconds to go. What a great way to end the game. Back to home ice on Saturday night to win the series!

Personally, I prefer the sweep. I agree that they may get a little out of practice from not being under pressure as much, and sometimes it can make them a little over confident in the next series and they slip up, but it also has some advantages too. It can give the team or even just certain players the confidence they need for going up against the next team, and a sweep will give them more down time to practice, rest, and prepare. Henrik and Daniel Sedin are in a bit of a slump right now, going their longest streak without getting a goal and are losing a little confidence. Hopefully Henrik's goal tonight will snap them out of that. I believe a sweep would kind of do the same thing for a team.

And hockey is just way too stressful for me O.o Sometimes it gets to the point where I want to rock back and forth in a corner, crying like a little baby because I can't handle the stress. God, all this stressing out over the games will be the death of me. That's why I prefer the sweep; it doesn't put me over the edge as much :P Perhaps I need to work on not taking hockey too seriously lol

colorsbold 05-06-2011 06:18 AM

Congrats on the game!! :)

THIS. Yes. I get stressed too! I have a friend who prefers when games are won in OT. It drives me insane. I'm anxious and going nuts the entire time.

My sister is the same way. She won't come watch the game with us unless it's in OT. And I full heartedly agree. Overtime sucks. That's when I usually feel like curling up in a corner the most. Actually, a couple games ago it went into the second overtime period. I thought I was going to die. My sister was laughing at me though... she's not very nice.

@anaxilea as well- Good luck to both of you on the game tomorrow night. May the best team win the chance to face the Canucks in the next round.

Well, after watching the game yesterday, I must say... Canucks, I should have never doubted you all. That was a pretty good game! And they finally owned Nashville.

colorsbold 05-07-2011 01:35 AM

Watching the game, 3-3 Sharks & Wings, 2 minutes left in regulation. Wings are playing in the sense of Playing and everything is intense and I am going to pee my pants any minute now I think I need to have a therapist sit with me when I watch hockey games.

GAAAAAAH THEY SCORED.

1:27 left. Only a miracle could get OT now. Aaaaaaaah!

BY THE WAY: who else hates empty net? Empty net freaks me out. I know it's strategically sound, here, but nyarrrg.

Red Wings 4-3. Game five on Sunday. Well played, guys, well played. Sweet merciful heavens, that was a stressful game.

I hate empty nets, too. At least, when we're the ones with the empty net. I always get so paranoid! I'll never complain when our opponents pull their goalie though. Easier scoring chances for us lol.

Well, it sucks that they didn't get a sweep, but it's good for the Red Wings, too. I won't take sides on that series. I see there are both Wings and Sharks fans here. Strangely, I haven't seen and Preds fans, unless they're just not saying anything. If you're a Preds fan, speak up! I promise I won't bite (much ;P)

But on Sunday... :ninja:

@Obsidian Raven's Song: I admire your lack of partisanship.
Hunh. I wonder if there are any Predators fans around here?
