Anyone else here have a PS3? Have you heard about there netowork or whatever being hacked? It just came out that everyones credit card info and passwords could have been taken. There is like 70 million people on PSN. I don't know how people can do that!

Sony makes me sad sometimes :( It seems like they've always got something giving them a bad rap. Mind you, if people look between the lines they can see that it's all companies and not JUST Sony (exploding xboxes, anyone?), but they certainly get the lion's share.
The PS2 was a great system and I still play mine all the time, but there's a reason I haven't upgraded to a PS3 yet.... I think I'll let them work the kinks out of a few editions first.
So, what's the story with you? Did you lose your info, or don't you know yet?

No I dont think so, it would be my parents info. They don't really know right now. I guess its really serious though, shutting everything down for 5 days. There will probably be some law suits filed against them.

Now, I love Sony. Not only are their products superior, their service has been pretty damn good up until this point.
This kinda pisses me off though. Just a bit. Because I like me some call of duty online, and Netflix is getting boring. Oh yeah, to all PSN users who are too retarded to figure it tout themselves: Netflix still works as long as you hit sign in, and then cancel when it fails every time. It'll work. Lol.
But I don't see how this strikes so many people with such surprise. Nobody pays for their playstation network service. Theymay pay for features run through PSN (ps plus) but I don't pay for it simply for reasons like this. Shit happens, downtime occurs. I mean, it was really only a matterof time before something like this happened anyways.

I'm a proud non-PS3 owner.
I've never been much of a fan of sony.
As for this situation, what did you expect? PSN was free, which means that it didn't have lots of money coming in to improve and secure it. I'm actually surprised it took this long for something like this to happen to be honest.

Completely in Sony's favor, of course.
In this age, the age of computerized machinery, and very quickly advancing computers at that, this is going to start happening a lot more to places. As they build smarter and smarter systems, people learn and adapt new hacks and solutions. This is going to start happening to banks, important files, huge companies, shit like that. Be ready people.
And again, Sony's Playstation Network Service was free. They didn't willingly give away any data either..
So, I'm pretty sure its gonna be Sony 1, retarded law suitor 0

I disagree, if you are giving your credit card number to a service like Sony's PSN, you have a certain level of privacy and security expected.
If those card numbers were stolen, it would be negligent on Sony's part.
Yes it's a free service, but again, when credit cards are involved there should be a certain level of security.
I'm not saying that Sony is completely to blame, I don't know all the facts (like if there were card numbers stolen, or how the hacker got in) but, I don't think it's fair to absolve Sony of any wrongdoing. :?

Ya I think they had good security, they just didn't expect someone to actually be able to hack it. I think they were very surprised, the people must be very intelligent.

Sony has had a lot of security problems with the PS3, remember that kid who hacked the PS3 when it was supposed to be "unhackable" and then he ran off to another country so he couldn't go to court? =__="

1)Sony put out a Q and A yesterday about the outage
2) Credit card information was thorougly encrypted and completely separate from the other data, which is unencrypted. Sony does not think that the hackers have access to the credit card info.

Well its not so intense, Sam, because it is a straight up lie. Don't preach about something you're uneducated about. It was ALL OVER THE NEWS and after suspicions were raised that George Hotz fled, he immediately denied them. I can't remember exactly what he was doing down there but it wasn't to get away from the lawsuit. I read several articles on it because I get PS3 related news articles directly on my phone :)

Does not "think" and I mean they also claimed that the PS3 was unhackable, let alone the PS3 network. I'm sorry but I don't trust them or their word on how "hackable" or "unhackable" it is. :?

Wtf? I wasn't preaching about anything and I'm not sam.
And I do know of George Hotz and whether or not he thinks he was fleeing, leaving the country when you're going to court soon and have to turn over evidence, is a really bad idea and looks terrible for you, and very well could have lead to him fleeing. :?
Denial doesn't mean anything.
I deny that I am a girl.
I deny that I am 19.
...But that doesn't change the truth. :?
ps I don't really deny it, it was just to make a point; people LIE.

So according to the Playstation Blog the PSN is back up, but the Playstation store is down.
It's up and running for North America, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico and South America but is still down in Japan, as Japanese officials are demanding that Sony ensure security measure to prevent something like this from happening again. I wouldn't mind some assurance in the good ol' US of A too. :ninja:

I cried when i learned it was down. but at the same time i didnt worry so much cause i dont really have anyone to play with online and i dont have an active card on my account and nothing on the psn i was waiting for.
i just hate how the xbox fans are laughing cause they THINK xbox is better. i have both systems and my xbox collects dust. i rarely play it. theres just nothing on it that interests me. I dont get though why they think suddenly the xbox is better when this kinda stuff happens all the time to them. this is the first time for sony and they're taking every measure to fix it and keep it from happening, xbox ive heard is hacked like every other month. so its not like they suddenly win cause sony had one big mistake. xbox fans are just using this as an excuse to pull more users to it.
not gonna happen. im just waiting it out. x3 sony will always be my life *o*
besides xbox just charged my bf for a month of live and he didnt even know it was reoccurring. so hes not 10 bucks short thanks to them.
