Have any of you decided/had to take a summer course for school?

This summer has been the first time that I have had the umm...'pleasure' of enrolling in a summer course. So far I have found it pretty hard to focus and make time in my summer plans and summer job to study and complete projects and homework and such.

I decided to take a summer course for university, so that next year won't be so demanding in my course load. It's completely optional...but I have already paid and I know that it the long run it will all pay off. But for right now I am currently hating it.

(I'm in university that is why my summer is starting in May, in case you were wondering).

My college offers summer studies, but the selection isn't great. The only classes which related to my degree through the summer were all electives, so I decided to pass this year and just pick up an extra class in the fall to make up for it. It's going to be an awfully boring summer if I can't find a job soon, though!

( Oops! This is Anaxilea on Misao's computer, I'm over at her house right now. I think I'll log in as myself. )

Ya I found the selection for my campus' summer courses were not that great either, but I did happen to find one that directly relates to my degree. I also didn't want to pick a course that required you to travel to the university or another exam centre in order to write your final exam.

I didn't take any summer courses this summer and I just finished first year of university. Since I slacked off at second semester, I want this four months to recuperate. xD So I will keep my course load light second year and do summer school next year. Px

When I was in university, I always took a couple of courses to lighten my load during the year -- it was a blast -- it was intensive, so you did more in less time, the professors were great, and the assignments were always interesting...

Selection for summer courses is always atrocious. You'd think they'd offer some better classes considering there's a demographic of people who can only do courses during the summer.

Anyway, yes. I'm taking several classes over the summer so that it's easier for me later on.

On the other hand, some courses are nothing like what the course description says -- some profs know that and then they put a spin on it that you'd never get during the regular year...

I'm finding that the whole atmosphere surrounding summer courses is so much more relaxed, or it might just be that it is summer and it's affecting everyone and it is just a change of environment.

I found, at my college, that they were mostly electives. Since I have most of my elective credits taken care of with my Psychology studies and I couldn't find the math course I needed, I opted out this year. I do wish summer quarter would carry more core curriculum!

@ Anaxilea, definitely agree with you there. I am enrolled in a pretty demanding degree program so a lot of my classes are already picked for me, but when it comes times to select electives, there is hardly any interesting courses to fit in my timetable. So I'm stuck with taking irrevelant electives
